FIFTEEN PAGES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we are almost through with act one. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, we are almost through staging act one. At the end of yesterday’s rehearsal I began blocking the final scene, which includes to songs and a reprise, so lots to do – ten pages, but thankfully about three of them are simple. I did the very long sequence (fifteen pages) that take place on a boat. I think it came out very well. I will add certain things to it, like people milling about only when I have the set pieces. But I was pretty pleased about the work we did and I think our leading lady, who’s a student, is going to be really lovely in the show. She’s a really hard and dedicated worker. But the whole cast is in the spirit of the show. I have to be a little stronger with a couple of cast members, but they’ll thank me for it when we’re further down the line. While I’ve been staging the numbers as they come up (Kay hasn’t been with us for two days), Kay will, I’m sure, clean them up and add whatever suits her fancy. I’m hoping to finish the act and move on to act two, and then I’m going to do as much of that act on Saturday that I possibly can, and then finish it up on Monday. That way on Tuesday I can begin assembling the show and seeing what we’ve got, what the flow is like, where I need better transitions, and how the two big units are going to work.

Prior to rehearsal, I’d slept about seven hours, got up, printed out orders, then went and did stuff and had bacon and eggs. I had to come right back home to have the work session for Kritzerland. We went through everything, so all of that should be prepared for our first rehearsal on Monday. Then Robert Yacko came and rather than run the entire act we just ran a few things and talked through others. Then I had to leave and mosey on over to LACC for our rehearsal.

Afterwards, I stopped at Gelson’s and got a little snack for home, then I came home. I had a nice telephonic conversation with Elizabeth Sherman and I’ll be going over there on Sunday for a very brief visit. Then I got the sad news that Alaric Cantarero passed away. He was in Li’l Abner and was a very sweet soul. I believe at the time he was in remission from cancer, but it came back and he fought a valiant fight but it finally got the best of him. He kind of played opposite Sami in the Sadie Hawkins Day race.

I printed out some more orders, and hopefully there will be even more in the morning when I awaken. I never even had time to listen to music.

Today, I have to be at LACC at eleven for a meeting with a woman who does promotion for the school. Then we rehearse from noon to five. At five, I’ll have to make the decision whether to brave the freeway or go sit in a local eatery till seven. We shall see. When I get home I really have to start writing the damn commentary – I don’t like being this far behind.

Tomorrow we rehearse from ten to three, then I’m going to do a run to the new house and get more stuff over there, maybe even two runs. Then I’ll eat, finish the commentary and relax if there’s any time left. In thinking about it, I really doubt I’ll have any relaxing time from now until the time we open Levi, what with boxing up stuff, getting it moved, the Kritzerland show, every night rehearsing, and prepping the Kritzerland holiday show. I’ll need lots of bolstering and perhaps a shoulder to lean on every now and then as well as every then and now. Sunday, we will hopefully have three or four LACC kids here to do the big boxing up of CDs, books, and videos. That is a huge thing and if we can get all that done, that is a big load off. I’ll visit the Shermans around two, then come right back home and see how we’re all doing. I may try to do a new house run or two, too. Monday we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, and then Levi rehearsal, and that’s the week – Levi and Kritzerland, stumble-through and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, have a five-hour rehearsal, eat, and begin writing the commentary. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – who knows? Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have gotten through another fifteen pages.
