MUSIC TO MAKE OUT BY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon and I only got about four hours of sleep and I am quite tired.  I am, as I write these here notes in a hurry, sitting here like so much fish listening to more Jackie Gleason Capitol easy listening albums – so lush, so atmospheric with the lonely trumpet or the sighing sax and the tinkling piano – smooth as silk – when I was a young tad of a lad this was my idea of Music to Make Out By.  And on that note (Bb), we’d best get to some notes.

Yesterday, I only had four hours of sleep.  My tummy was a little upset, plus the idiot neighbors were noisy again.  When I finally got out of bed, I answered e-mails, did some work at the piano, then I went and picked up some packages, had a bacon and cheese omelet and a bagel and fruit, and then I came back home.  I had a few telephonic conversations, then listened to the third commentary track, with Marshall Harvey and I – that was pretty fun, but boy can I hear how shot my voice was and I can hear me sucking occasionally on Grether’s Pastilles.  I went through all the other extras, so all that’s left is to listen to the commentary with Cindy.  They brought me a new test disc with the transfer at the proper frame rate and it now plays correctly.  One does wish it was sharper, but this technology they used that actually made the blow-up from 4×3 letterbox not lose any more quality was a great thing.  So, on Monday, I’ll approve this, but they’re going to add the Kritzerland logo at the beginning – forgot that we needed to have that.  So, once that gets put in, we’ll be ab out two weeks away from getting discs, so we’ll also announce on Monday, which means I’ve got to write the blurb for that today when I get back.

After all that, it was time to get ready and mosey on over to see a show, which I did.  Not my kind of show at all, so no real need to really talk about it much.  Instead, here’s Peyton Kirkner from the What If show, doing my song Annie.

After the show, which was only eighty-minutes from start to finish, I put gas in the motor car, stopped at Gelson’s and got some snacks, came home, ate the snacks, listened to music, had a telephonic call, and then it was already late and so it was time to write these here notes, which is, I believe, what I’ve been doing.

Today, I’ll be up early, I’ll probably have a light breakfast as I usually do, then I may go to Amoeba to kill time, then I’ll come home.  Once home, I’ll do some prep work on The Man Who Came to Dinner, I’ll get everything ready to announce our CD and DVD title, and now that I think about it, it may well be just the DVD title with the CD to follow in a week or so.  We shall see.  Then I’ll listen to the Cindy and me commentary, and send the approval e-mail, and then at some point I’ll relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll continue to prep the play, but mostly I have to relax.  Then on Monday evening, we begin rehearsals for The Man Who Came to Dinner, which I’m quite looking forward to.  And I made the decision that for the December Kritzerland show mid-month, we’ll do the What If revue we just did – everyone could do it and we’ll just swap out about four or five of the solos with holiday-themed numbers and it will work just fine.  So, that’s one less thing to worry about.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up early, have a light breakfast, maybe go to Amoeba, come home, prep a play, do a blurb for the Creature announcement, listen to the last of the commentaries, and then relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What is the single worst play and musical you’ve ever seen?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as I continue listening to Music to Make Out By.
