Well, dear readers, I can’t even remember what yesterday was like – isn’t that peculiar? Perhaps it was because the evening was so annoying that I’ve forgotten what yesterday was like. I spent most of the evening trying to put a bunch of tracks into iTunes (for an upcoming release) and each track was taking about twenty minutes to download and I finally just gave up, as there were more than thirty tracks to do. I mean, it took twenty minutes to download a track less than one minute. Normally, it would take five seconds to do that. So, I told the mastering guy to either convert those files into mp3s (which download quick as can be) or to send me a CD. This particular project has been dragging on for over six months and I’m almost ready to just cancel it – it’s something that was handed to me when another label couldn’t afford it, but no tapes were available except from the composer. He has turned out to be quite a trial – nice guy and all, but slow as molasses, confused about technical things, and it just goes on and on and on. I think we have everything now, but who knows? Prior to that, I’d watched a few more episodes of The Twilight Zone – not the best, save for the Burgess Meredith Time Enough At Last show, which is very good. I’ve also been having no luck casting our next Gardenia show – if this was being done in New York people would be lined up wanting to do it. Here – no, here we get entitlement and people who just can’t be bothered. There’s no SPIRIT here, no sense of FUN amongst performers. I sent out several e-mails and Facebook messages today and can’t even get a bloody response, which is not good and I do hope that those who don’t respond never want to work with me because should they I don’t believe I’ll be responding. It’s just completely wacky to me – Alet is helping me find people and I’m supposed to talk to a couple of folks tomorrow, but we’ve just wasted two weeks – I can’t even plan who sings what until I have everyone and now there’s only two weeks for them to learn stuff, instead of four weeks. I think the December show will be easier because several people who’ve expressed interest in doing it will be done with shows they’re appearing in. But if it continues to be an ordeal, I’ll stop doing them. I really think we’ve got something special here, and the audiences love it, but, as I said, in New York this would be a piece of cake. Here? Blechhh. Prior to that, I’d done a mile and a half jog. Prior to that – has anybody noticed that I’ve been going backwards? I started at the end and am going back to the beginning. Who knew? In any case, prior to the jog I’d finally satisfied a craving for Dino’s Pizza. The helper and I went and we split a large pizza – four slices for each of us. It was so yummilicious – the high point of the day, actually. Prior to that, we’d spent an hour at the storage facility going through boxes and getting rid of tons of stuff. I found some interesting things, including some pretty amazing work cassettes with Liz Callaway, Christiane Noll, Emily and Alice, Paige O’Hara – all with their respective musical directors, sending me stuff we were thinking about doing and working through arrangements. Prior to that, the helper hadn’t gotten my e-mail, so when she wasn’t here at ten I called – she said she could be here by eleven. Unfortunately, there was a terrible problem on the 405 that had traffic backed up all the way to the 118. It took her till noon to get here. And what was the terrible problem? Apparently, some rock band traveling in a big trailer turned their trailer across three lanes on the San Diego Freeway, got out and began playing. Can you believe it? They were arrested and the police, as far as I can tell, didn’t give out the name of the band – of course, that’s why the band did it – to get free publicity at any cost, including jail. For the two hours of grief they caused people, I would throw away the key. Of course, I’m sure they thought they were entitled to do it. Prior to that I’d gotten nine good hours of sleep, which was very helpful. Upon arising, I did an interview about Sadismo that will hopefully appear in Variety.
Well, going backwards was exhilarating or, at the very least, hilerating. Why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must now go forwards so I can get another good night’s sleep, because today is a very important day.
Today, I shall hopefully get a good night’s sleep and then someone is coming at ten to pick up some CDs. After that, I have some errands and whatnot to do, and hopefully some packages to pick up (although the majority of what I was expecting came yesterday). Then I’ll relax until I leave for the Book Soup signing. I am completely petrified that no one will be there, other than the three or four people who’ve absolutely confirmed with me. I’m praying that because Book Soup was really good about getting this in all the newspapers, and because they’ve had a sign up in the store, that we’ll at least get a few folks in there. But most of my people – I have no idea because no one communicates.
Tomorrow and Friday are both busy, mostly with trying to get this Gardenia show done so everyone can get their music by Friday. The weekend, I have a visitor coming over on Saturday night, and Sunday I’m lunching with dear reader Jeanne.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get up, do a jog, do errands and whatnot, relax, do a book signing/reading, and then go eat something fun with whoever shows up. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I go forward and wrap up the backwards notes.
