LIME RICKEY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is I, BK, here to write the notes. Of course, who else would be writing them, the man in the moon, the farmer in the dell, the girl with the dragon tattoo? No, it is merely I who will write the notes, just as merely I have written them for the last ten years. And on that note (Bb) – the notes. It was like a summer day yesterday – the sky was blue and it was quite hot and quite a change of pace from the weather we’ve been having. I found it rather pleasant, actually, and wished that I were sitting in my yard in my pink Speedos, drinking an exotic concoction such as Diet Coke or a lime rickey, letting the sun bake into my golden body with abs and buns of steel. Unfortunately, I don’t own any pink Speedos, and one simply does not want to see a sixty-three year old Jew in Speedos, pink or otherwise. Additionally, I do not have a golden body nor do I have abs and buns of steel at this time. Furthermore, I have never had a lime rickey or even a lime tommy. What the HELL am I talking about? Lime Rickey – that’s the title of my next novel, the story of an Oriental black market dealer whose nickname is Lime Rickey, who, coincidentally, wears pink Speedos, has a golden body, and abs and buns of steel, plus a dragon tattoo. This will be the first in a series of novels to feature Lime Rickey – subsequent volumes will have titles like Lime Rickey Goes To Prague, Lime Rickey and Strawberry Betty, and my favorite, Lime Rickey and the Patent Leather Underpants. I think they will be quite successful and there’s early talk about film versions starring Matt Damon. You know, I do believe I have officially lost my sanity. If anyone comes across it, do send it along. Yesterday, as noted, was hot. I got a pretty good night’s sleep, got up, did work on the computer, and then toddled off to lunch at Barney’s Beanery, where I had my new favorite, a foot-long chili cheese dog with onions aplenty. After that, I did some errands and whatnot, picked up a few packages and two bills, and then came home.

Then it was time to rehearse with The Singer. It was her first time running the show in front of anyone, so she was a bit nervous. It ran very smoothly, and the happy news is the bones of the act are solid, the songs are great, she sings wonderfully, and it will be a fine act. All it’s about from now until show time is getting her comfort level high. After the run, we began at the beginning and ran every line of patter, and then did intensive work on the songs, discussing what the song needed to do in the act, what colors were needed, and breaking down the lyrics so that each song is different, has its own story and colors and so each interpretation is fresh and surprising. The most important thing for anyone doing a club act is to realize and understand that they are the driver – we, the audience are the passengers and the performer is taking us on a little journey and is always in charge of where they turn, what direction they go in, and where they take us. You never want your passengers to know exactly where you’re taking them – the surprise is the fun. And as long as they know you’re in charge, they will go anywhere with you. We spent a few hours going over all that, and now she will work on those things, and we will reconvene and run the show again and see where the work needs to be done. It’s all detail oriented from now on, and that’s the fun part.

After that, I ate some dried CRANBERRIES, answered a plethora of e-mails, listened to several pieces of music, paid some bills, and sent the new book manuscript to Mr. Grant Geissman so he can begin the design work. I never had time to watch a motion picture, but I have a couple of things here I’m quite looking forward to.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really must get my beauty sleep so I can begin the first Lime Rickey book.

Today, I don’t know what the HELL is going on. Oh, I know I have some Kritzerland things to do, and I know I have some errands and whatnot to do, and I know that I hopefully will pick up some packages, and I know I will proof the booklet and packaging for our next cast album release. I do have an important telephonic call to make and some stuff to do on the computer, and the Gardenia show to finish casting and music to be pulled, so I guess that’s what the HELL is going on today.

Tomorrow will be more of the same. Saturday night I’m seeing the opening of a new musical at the NoHo Arts Theater, which features our very own Miss Alet Taylor, as well as friends Kim Huber and Jennifer Leigh Warren. I will, of course, have a full report. Not sure what’s happening on Sunday although I’m sure it will involve a rehearsal with The Singer.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some Kritzerland things, do some errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, proof a booklet and packaging, make a telephonic call, finish casting, pull music, and, at some point, eat something light but amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite exotic drinks? And what Lime Rickey titles would you like to see in our upcoming series? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream of exotic drinks, pink Speedos, golden bodies with abs and buns of steel, and my new hero, Lime Rickey.
