I DID NOT SEE THE LIVE BROADCAST OF THE SOUND OF MUSIC OR THE FACEBOOK SOUND AND FURY SIGNIFYING NOTHING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the live version of The Sound of Music has aired and some have supported it while others have pronounced the live broadcast dead on arrival.  I shall make with no pronouncements, not having viewed it yet.  But naturally the furor over all comments, whether yay or nay, has erupted where else – Facebook.  It’s a little wacky how people who should know better post things like “I’ve unfriended X number of people because they were being bitchy about Sound of Music.”  Really?  So what?  What makes any of these people think that anyone gives a flying Wallenda WHAT they think, yay or nay?  They post and act as if thousands are hanging on every word.  Note: They’re not.  No, the same five people who post in response how they agree with their friend who’s posting is the response they get.  And they get irritated when someone takes part in the thread and doesn’t agree.  Note: Post something, and people can post any damn thing they want in response.  It’s FACEBOOK, not e-mail.  There were two musical conductors going at it over the broadcast.  It didn’t matter who was saying what – it was just so silly reading the back and forth as if anyone really cared about it.  The vitriol, the vitriol about the vitriol, the childishness is astonishing and it comes from people who should not be doing that sort of thing.  Here is what I’ll post on Facebook: NOTE – I have not seen the live broadcast of The Sound of Music.  However, if I say it sucks here on Facebook, then I will be damned to hell as a bitchy show queen complainer and how could I be so evil as to expect a good show when all those nice people got nice paychecks.  And if I love it and say so here on Facebook, then I’ll be called one of those people who will like anything and be supportive of anything and how dare I not have standards.  I got news for you Facebook people – no one gives a flying Wallenda what I think of the live broadcast of The Sound of Music.  Even I don’t give a flying Wallenda what I think of the live broadcast of The Sound of Music.  And, in turn, I don’t give a flying Wallenda what anyone thinks of the live broadcast of The Sound of Music.  And yet – all over my news feed, post after post after post, some from perfectly reasonable people I know, getting all hot and bothered, unfriending people if they’re bitching about the show, proclaiming their thoughts loudly as if they were playing to a full house, which they aren’t.  Facebook is such a peculiar place sometimes.  The End.

Was that a rant?  Don’t I have some notes to write?  Didn’t I have a day yesterday?  It began at five in the morning even though I didn’t have to be up until six.  So, I got exactly three hours of sleep.  But I got everything announced then finally climbed back into bed around seven-thirty.  I think I finally fell asleep about nine and slept until eleven.  Then I got up, printed out orders, answered e-mails, and gave the final approval on a master.  Two screeners arrived, one for 12 Years a Slave and one for Lone Survivor.  I don’t really know anything about either film.  Then I went and had a chili, cheese and onion omelet and an English muffin.  After that, I picked up a few packages, then came back home and printed more orders.  The helper came and picked up some invoices and then I had to have two way too long telephonic calls that ate up way too much of my afternoon, which was very annoying.  And then it was time to be on my way to the theater for our preview.  I’d already been told it was a light house, something I don’t really understand, since having an audience is always beneficial at a preview.  So, I’d invited a few people and we ended up with about twenty-four, which in a forty seat theater looks fine.  Our own Lisa Livesay was there and a great person to have in an audience.  Prior to beginning, we ran the new opening number, and I added one small little bit of business to the start of another number – something had been bugging me about it and I finally figured out a way to have it not bug me and be really cute – so, we put that in the show.

The performance was the best we’ve had.  The light cues were completely correct, the cast seemed energized and on their game and the pace of it was really great.  Everything seemed to land well and the applause was healthy and never seemed forced, which is what I prefer.  After, Kay and I hung around for a little while, but other than costume and set stuff, there weren’t really any notes – I, in fact, had zero myself, and Kay was the same.  I got out of there about ten and was at Gelson’s by ten-thirty, as I hadn’t eaten since noon and was starving.  I got some small egg roll things, two potato pancakes from their deli and some super Chinese slaw.  I came home and ate it all up – the potato pancakes were actually quite good.  Since I’d only had the omelet, I don’t think much of what I had was harmful.  I printed out more orders and that was that.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep.  Then I’ll hopefully print out more orders, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, relax, and then we have our final preview before tomorrow’s opening.

Tomorrow, I shall relax all the livelong day, then I’ll mosey on over to the theater for our opening night, which I hope will be full.  Send your most excellent vibes and xylophones for a smooth and successful opening night.  Sunday, dear reader Jeanne will be seeing the show, so that will be fun.  That also happens to be my birthday and I’m hoping that I’ll get to celebrate with some fun folks.  If not, I’ll damn well celebrate by myself.  Next week is all benefit catch up as well as putting in Jane Noseworthy’s cover on Tuesday night.  I think the gal who’s doing it is very conscientious and will be very good.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, print out orders, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, then relax, then attend our final preview.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – the new French region B release of the great film noir Gun Crazy, starring Peggy Cummins and John Dall.  I’ve watched a bit of it already but want to see more before posting my thoughts.  The one bit of good news is that despite the region B moniker, it’s all region.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall arise still not having seen the live broadcast of The Sound of Music.
