Then I stopped into an optician quite near Trader Joe's, just to look at some frames and because in the two years since my last pair of glasses my prescription is completely different - nothing about my glasses worked.  So, I ended up getting a new exam from a very good lady doctor, then found two frames I like and am getting my first pair of progressive lenses, which they assure me I'll love.  Progressive lenses have gotten quite sophisticated in the last few years, and I'm getting the latest technology.  It's pretty expensive, these lenses, but, you know, if it makes me see well it will be worth it.

Improved or not they can still be difficult to adjust to.

Back from a lot of stuff.  Once again, I pull out the Unsung Musicals box and there is not ONE piano/vocal chart - this seems to be a recurring theme with elmore's early work - I have all the orchestra charts and not ONE piano/vocal - funny, I have complete piano/vocals for Unsung 2 and 3.  Go know.

I don't understand it. I gave Vinny piano-conductors for everything I did, and I assume they end up with all the recording materials.

This was pre-Vinny doing the recording - obviously the singers had them, but they simply don't exist anymore - it's really shocking.  I have them for pretty much everything after the first six or seven albums.

Had to have some Cole Porter this morning, so I've got "Leave It to Me!" blasting out of the speakers. Love this score, even if the recording from 42nd St. Moon has only a small band instead of a full orchestra. His "Tomorrow" is like musical caffeine to me, and "Most Gentlemen Don't Like Love" always makes me smile.

I think I have work on that recording

If you do, you aren't mentioned in the liner notes. But that doesn't mean anything these days, I'm sure.

Yes, the three appendix charts are mine, including "Farming" and "A Lady Needs A Rest." I have no memory of doing the third one.

I really like that version of "A Lady Needs a Rest." The phrasing is quite different from the Ben Bagley recording.

Just got back from a special showing of "Bottle Shock." It's the third time I've seen it and it's the one movie that makes the wine geek in me smile from start to finish. Everybody from Alan Rickman to Dennis Farina seems to be having a great time. And the theater gave away a free glass of wine with the ticket. Now that's fun.

Good Evening!

Greetings from Virginia!

...Where I just found out that my father had surgery... Two weeks ago... Apparently, I had even called while they were on the way to the hospital... But, again, I just found out a few minutes ago. ???

However, it was a somewhat routine procedure, and my dad seems to be recuperating quickly.

Ginny, I don't know if anyone ever responded, but I'm listening to a track from the Bette Midler Rosemary Clooney album and yes, it's very, very short. LP records from the 60s and 70s were that short but nowadays CDs usually have more material.

DR Ginny - In fact, both of her "Tribute" albums - the other one being "The Peggy Lee Songbook" - are very short when it comes to running time.  I have to wonder if the overall running time was part of the "tribute"? ;)

WHAT?!?!? You're going for a jog with dilated eyes?!?!?  -Now if that was ever an invitation for an accident... ???

I stopped walking to work...partly because I am lazy and partly because we had two stabbings one morning last week on one of the street that I walk on to get to work...less then a half mile from my house.

...some kids (16 year olds) stabbed an elderly man who was out collecting cans at 6 am, killing him, and then they drove up the street and stabbed a guy who was walking to work (who turned out to be a clerk at a store that I shop at...as I found out this weekend). He survived, but his arm right arm (which he used to protect himself) is a mess of stitches.

It seems it was random acts of violence on the part of these hooligans, and thankfully they have been caught, but very scary to have something like this happen in Salem.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear about the elderly man.  Had you two been dating long?

;D LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

DR MBarnum - The NY Times reviewed the new Bollywood movie, "We Are Family", which, as it turns out, actually gives a proper screen credit to the original movie that it is based on, "Stepmom". It's a short review, but one phrase did catch my eye:

"They both have chemistry with Arjun Rampal, the almost excessively handsome actor who plays Aman, Maya’s ex."

-"almost excessively handsome" - Do you agree with that assessment? ;)

Bee Desserts Chocolate Honey Cakes

*And, yes, I just had one of the Almond ones. WOW! Smiley

OMG those look fantastic!!!  Before reading the description it looks like honeycomb which I love.  These look very intriguing.  It is also possible I would be slightly allergic to them but heck, they look worth an itchy mouth. :)

To which part would you be "slightly allergic"?
