Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a little pepper on them, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently putting a little pepper on it.
-
And the word of the day is: SOLON!
-
Was it the cow that ran away with the spoon? Or did the cow jump over the moon? Somebody ran away with the spoon and somebody jumped over the moon and I think a cow was involved with one or the other.
-
And what has that got to do with the price of burritos?
-
I'm very tired, so perhaps I shall get my beauty sleep.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR MusicGuy!! ;D
-
It is really pouring right now.
-
At least we have one person who's not a WUSSBURGER.
-
We've got us four GUESTS, too.
-
Who ARE you people?
-
Who ran away with the fershluganah spoon and who jumped over the moon?
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
Someone said we may have five inches of rain.
-
My goodness, is this really the final week of January???
-
It was snowing here in Olympia, yesteray afternoon! It looked like it might stay for a while, but it didn't. It turned to a very light rain and that was it. But the snow was nice, while it lasted. :)
-
Right now, I'm listening to a CD that came in the mail yesterday: the original Los Angeles cast recording of a show called Play It Cool (http://www.amazon.com/Play-Cool-Original-Cast-Recording/dp/B000H30MDU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1201426232&sr=1-1). It's a jazz musical and so far, I really like it. The synopsis in the booklet seems a little convoluted, but after reading it a couple of times, it does make sense. ;) It's about an illegal gay nightclub in the 1950s. There are only five people in the cast and they're all good. :)
Anyway, has anyone heard (or heard of) this show/recording?

Hey Diddle Diddle
The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon
The little dog laughed
To see such sport
And the dish ran away with the spoon.
-
Thanks, DR George - it does sound kind of interesting! :)

DR Jose - CONGRATULATIONS[/color] on the launch of your new blog (http://josespiano.wordpress.com/)!
Looks fantastic, and I look forward to reading future entries. Long may it reign! [ as opposed to rain... ]

And the word of the day is: SOLON!
The Congressman said his farewells towards the end of his retirement party, and the gathering of friends and associates followed by singing "SOLON, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye!"

I do not know anything about Foster Hirsch, and wouldn't be able to identify him if I saw him.
Which may be why, whenever our esteemed BK has mentioned him in his notes, I have instead flashed on the late Foster Brooks.
Who no doubt would have been far more entertaining than Foster Hirsch.
-
Torchwood's season opener was a fun romp.
But the title music is, shall we say, sucky? How Murray Gold, who has been writing really good music for Doctor Who, ended up writing anything this sucky baffles.

I do not know anything about Foster Hirsch, and wouldn't be able to identify him if I saw him.
Well now ya can, Blanche - now ya can!

Not that dissimilar, actually! ;)
-
But I'd rather be looking at Foster Brooks any day.
-
DR Tomovoz - I had forgotten about Eydie's "If He Walked Into My Life"! Good choice!!
I would humbly add Ella's "This Time the Dream's On Me."

Sorry, DR SWW - there appear to be intermittent problems with the original image. ???

I didn't have any picture problems.

Well, time for me to get ready for church. Today, I'm to dress all in black...
We'll be shimmying down the aisles alongside a visiting African-American Gospel Choir.

Good morning, Ben and Fred!
-
Happy happy brithday to DR Music Guy!!!
At least you didn't say Bris day :o
-
I'm watching the weather channel and the footage of Studio City's flooded streets is not happy footage. I hope bk isn't suffering too much.
-
Good morning to you!
Sounds like you've had a good time on your short weekend trip.
-
And a Happy Birthday to DR MUSICGUY, who is much missed 'round these here parts!
-
Happy birthday to our wonderful Music Guy.

Cold today....but warmer tomorrow here. And I think we see the men in the US Nationals today....skating that is.
DR EDISAURUS was on Miss America last night......but she was not talking about US Americans or maps or The Iraq.
-
At least you didn't say Bris day
Oh, but he did - if you happen to have a lithp.

DR EDISAURUS was on Miss America last night......but she was not talking about US Americans or maps or The Iraq.

Sounds like you've had a good time on your short weekend trip.
We did, thanks in large part to Christmas in January! Thanks once again for your hospitality!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And the apartment still smells like cookies. :)
-
I would humbly add Ella's "This Time the Dream's On Me."
OH! Me too, Me too!
*And I have very fond memories of slow-dancing in the kitchen to this one. :)
I also think Ella's version of "This Will Be My Shining Hour" is "da bomb" too.
-
OK, I'm unplugging the computer and we're storing the bags so we won't be encumbered as we traipse around NY. I probably won't post until we get home because my computer freezes unless it's plugged in (even with a new battery!)
Snow flurries are predicted here, but no sticking snow. That would be fun for us!
Jose and Elmore, see you soon!

And did you use your Border's 30%-off coupon (in addition to the already discounted price)?
-
See you in a bit, DR edisaurus - and I'll call you shortly too.
-
As for last night's Miss American pageant - which I had on in the background as i was baking... Well, it certainly got an overhaul... for better or for worse. I just really wish they would do something about those distractingly cheesy karaoke tracks they use for the contestants who choose to sing. -And what the frell was up with that one contestant who sang that very "interesting" arrangement of "Over The Rainbow"? And the contestant who followed her - well, she needs to work on her French diction!

DR MATTH re: CHUCK
SPOILERS I guess (even though i still have not watched the 10pm show yet).
*
*
*
The reason i thought the 2 episodes were connected was because in episode 1 Chuck's sister and her boyfriend are having problems. And in the info for episode 2 it implies that he proposes to her.
I just assumed that the fight, and the make-up and all that had something to do with what happens in the 10pm show.
-
I forgot to mention that last night was the premiere of TRADING SPACES (which i did not watch yet). Although i think it repeats during the morning today.
I'm not sure if anyone answered this, but it was mentioned that DR Edisaurus' work would be on display during MISS AMERICA. There were some ads for TRADING SPACES. But also the one i she mentioned (sorry i can't remember the name of the show exactly, the one with the guy making people thin).
I thought the promo looked great. And it actually made me want to check the show out!
-
And the word of the day is: SOLON!
And The Songs of The Day Are: OH DIOGENES and THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X
-
OK - Well, I need to finish getting myself together here, and head out to meet up with DRs elmore and edisaurus and her ever-lovin' Greg. -And then I have another get-together with my friend, Paul, who's in town this weekend from Florida. And then it looks like I may be a show or two today... We shall see.
Laters...
-
And watching MISS AMERICA last night (SPOILERS), i realized why i dislike the show.
It's not about just creating a new modern image.
The actual show sucks.
I disliked the host (Mark Steinas (sp?) from ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT) (you need to have a good host).
But i also felt like i knew nothing about the girls (if i hadn't watched MISS AMERICA REALITY i would have known zero).
Simply having swimsuits (which i don't really like), evening gowns (which i love), and talent is not enough. There was one interview question right at the end (but they had girls raise their hand if they wanted to answer (i'm not joking)).
They need to show a lot more of the girls. More questions. More discussions. More issues.
To me it seemed like the girl who won simply looked great in her dress. And answered her question reasonably well.
Interestingly enough (and this is a SPOILER for the MISS AMERICA REALITY show in case anyone watched).
*
*
*
There were 3 winners on MISS AMERICA REALITY. ANd of those three, 2 of them (Miss Washington and Miss Indiana) were first and second runner-up in the actual MISS AMERICA. I thought that was very interesting.
-
DR Jennifer - I did sort of watch "Trading Spaces" last night, and I think I need to watch it again when I'm not so distracted by cookies baking in the oven. But what I saw was certainly interesting.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR MUSICGUY
-
Sunday morning greetings! Sorry to be E & T last night - I left work early, came home to dress up a bit, and accompanied DH Richard to the University Club in Cincinnati. The occasion was the annual meeting of the Anglican church we've been attending. It was originally scheduled to be a covered dish lunch after church today, but one of the couples in the congregation offered to host the dinner last night. It was lovely and the meeting was productive. The meal was outstanding - salad, prime rib (I'd requested the end cut and got it), asparagus, fancy mashed potatoes, and pineapple sherbet and macaroons for dessert.
As it's my one-day weekend, I've been excused from church and am having a leisurely morning.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR MusicGuy!!!
-
Jose - will you be at the 2:00 SUNDAY IN THE PARK?
-
DR Jose - great new blog! I've added you to my aggregator.
-
The contestant who sang "Over the Rainbow" won, didn't she? (At least, I thought that's what I read in the newspaper this morning.)
-
Good morning!
Cold morning, but it should be a pretty afternoon. Not a cloud in the sky at the moment.
-
I have THE JEWISH AMERICANS to finish this afternoon, and then, depending on time, I'll watch SHREK THE THIRD just for fun. Might be the last "just for fun" DVD I get to watch for a couple of weeks.
-
I also have NCIS still cued up, so I'll likely watch another episode of it when I prepare and eat eat.
-
TV Reminders:
The Screen Actors Guild Awards come on tonight from 8-10.
The Men's Figure Skating finals air from 7-9.
I plan to watch the skating, start the recording of the SAG Awards at 8, and at 9, start watching SAG and see if I can't catch up to it before it ends at 10.

RE: BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING.
I've always thought the first 2/3 of BUNNY LAKE made it among the best mysteries ever made. The last third has always been a let-down for me. Seems protracted and talky and the suspense kind of oozes out of it.

Greetings from 27th Street! I'm currently in DR elmore's new office digs with DR edisaurus and her DH Greg.
And I just set up DR elmore network office printer on his computer! Thank Ye, Very Much!

Well, I am hoping that I can hold off until tomorrow to see my doctor. I really can't afford to go to the Emergency Room today. Thursday when I got home from work, when I was changing into my play clothes, I noticed that I had what is probably a spider bite on the upper inside of my arm. if would be just below my bicep (If you could find my bicep). It was red and a little puffy, and about the size of a dime.
I have been watching it carefully, because about ten years ago I was bitten by a spider that turned out to have been a brown recluse (similar to elmore). By day three, my arm looked like Popeye's arm. I originally ask my doctor if it was possible to find another brown recluse to bite the other arm, because I really liked the effect. Fortunaely, or unfortunately, sanity prevailed and he lanced the bite and gave me some heavy-duty antibiotecs.
Well, although this bite is not quite so dramatic, it is now about the size of a quarter, very red, and hot to the touch. I was hoping that the five weeks of antibiotecs that I had ingested since the start of December would have cut the poison, but apparently not.

Good morning, all! Yep, let's hear it for our DR Jose, who's given me printer access. I am content.
Yesterday afternoon, I junked my piano. Knowing it had been a breeding ground for the bedbugs made me leery to keep it around the apartment, so my neighbor Mark and I toted it out of the apartment, down the elevator and into the basement. Mark's wife, who's overdramatic in her good moments went around proclaiming that the elevator was filled with bedbugs, so I vacuumed it and sprayed the floor with pesticide. Then another tenant Jaymie, hearing Mark's wife's claims of bedbugs in the elevator, laid me out for being a crappy neighbor and infesting the basement with bedbugs, all of this before the building's super and others.
My defensive comment was that Mark and I couldn't have carried it out of the buidling and I wasn't paying for a crew to move it further since I blamed the building's management for letting the bug problem go too long with no notification. However, the super, his wife, a Ch9nese waiter and I were able to get the piano out of the cellar and into the alley where junk is kept. The super asked if he could have the piano and I said yep. He's going to have the exterminator go through it and see if it's salvageable. I'm glad it's out of the apartment.
So, last night I slept well, but there was indeed a bedbug on me this morning and I killed it. I continue the cleaning, sweeping, laundry, etc. and I do believe this issue will be resolved shortly. I am sick of it.
This morning, I met DRs Jose, edisaurus, and DH Greg at Barney Greengrass for breakfast, and had lox and bagel with cream cheese, tomato and onion: very tasty. It was a lovely visit and they all came to Toyland with me to check it out. DR Jose set up my iMac with the office printer (yay! hurray!) and we listened to some unreleased BABES IN TOYLAND, LADY OF THE SLIPPER, and OH LADY! LADY! It was a loverly visit.
-
CONGRATS to DR JOSE on his new blog. It looks great! A blog seems such a natural for you. I'll check in from time to time.

Any photos from this morning's mini-HHW reunion?
-
DR elmore3003, I feel very badly about the loss of your piano. I hope you can make do - I am sure it was a great convenience to have one there in your apartment. HUGS to you! :(

I do miss the piano, which I bought in 1971, but I was saying to our DR Jose that maybe I should buy a keyboard in a couple of months as a substitute.

What the heck - they make very good ones now, and you're on a spending spree anyway - though not voluntarily! :-\

DR TOMOVOZ,
Just added THE STREET to my Netflix queue. Probably won't view it for a week or so. Have you seen it yet?

You'll have to ask VIXMOM about that one--IF she's tellin'.

Gotta split.
Catch ya all later.

Very much looking forward to hearing DRs FJL and JoseSPiano's reactions to the new production of Sunday... :)
-
Well this morning I got up and went grocery shopping. I the cashier was a lovely middleaged lady who placed the cans on the conveyor belt so I could bag them and gently placed my apples and grapes and bread in their own bag (in that order) so nothing was squashed or bruised.
Then I cooked breakfast for poor sickly Vixdad (eggs, toast, sausages and baked beans, served with HP sauce and a large mug of hot tea) and then the Vixter and I headed off to church.
Her hair was a big hit...it is actually very subtle, There are 6 long purple hair extensions each maybe a 1/4 inch thick just around her left ear, but they are placed under the top layer of hair, so you just get flashes of purple here and there as she turns her head
Today was the annual church meeting where we vote on the budget etc but I am starting to get sore throat and headache and so I voted to miss it this year.
-
How unfortunate to read that Christian Brando has died. What a sad pathetic family they became, inspite of the genius of the father.

The Vixter thanks you TCB!!!

I know just whom I would like to see cast in the leading role
-
I am sorry for the loss of your piano Elmore, that must have been a difficult decsion for you to make
I hope all the buggies are soon kaput
-
I do hope that DR ELMORE'S bedbug-begone crisis has a silver lining and he finds that many of the changes he felt forced to make do indeed serve him well.
thank you, dear! From your lips to God's ears.
I've done my bit of writing today. See you all tomorrow.
-
DR Matt H. - I don't say it often enough, but thank you for the timely television scheduling reminders! I do want to see both the programs you mentioned that are airing tonight.
Very sweet of you to say, DR Singdaw. I appreciate it, and I enjoy doing it.
And if you forget about the SAG Awards at 8, TNT is rerunning the show almost immediately following the original broadcast. (I think there's a CLOSER episode in between.) They have done this for several years now. (They may even rerun it again at some point on Monday, too. I've forgotten now.)
-
DR Elmore. It's been anightmare of epic proportions, and I couldn't be more sorry for this succession of bad luck and bad news. I am keeping good thoughts that things will turn around for you instantly.
-
I watched another NCIS episode while I cooked and ate lunch. This was the episode where the real estate agent found a dead body of a sailor in the living room of the house she was showing. Good mystery.
-
Next, I finished the remaining bonus features on THE JEWISH AMERICANS. They didn't amount to more than about 5 minutes of material between the two features. Looks like they were actually outtakes from the show since they're attached to parts of the show that were broadcast.
-
I debated with myself and finally decided I would take the day for myself and watch SHREK THE THIRD next.
Not as good as the original or the second film. The story was poor and besides all the references to modern things and fairy tales, there wasn't really much new material on display. I did like Merlin that Eric Idle voiced, and I thought much more could have been done with him. The whole baby thing was predictable as a capper.
Even though the movie made a ton of money, I think it should be the last one unless they can get really inspired with a new direction for these characters. This was sort of feeble actually.
-
I did watch one bonus feature on the disc - the "Meet the Cast" featurette. I couldn't place Arthur's voice during the movie (saw it was Justin Timberlake in the credits), so I was curious about his being asked to do the film. They didn't really go into why he was cast as opposed to someone like Neil Patrick Harris who I think might have made a more interesting character.
-
I have a 90 minute made-for-BET movie called BLACKOUT to watch and review, but I didn't have 90 minutes left in the afternoon, so I pulled out WORDS AND MUSIC BY JERRY HERMAN and started watching it. Enjoyed it all over again. I got up to LA CAGE before stopping it.

Dr Elmore: I hope your digs get into better shape soon......Why is that picture of me with a pickaxe popping up everywhere?(If Only...)....Yesterday tod, song artist desert island combo is Julie Andrews' singing Mercer ManciniWhistling Away the Dark......Just got back from THERE WILL BE BLOOD. To borrrow a line from scripture, the stumbling block for me was D. I just caught up on last week's posts. (Am I the only DR who tries to read them all?) Thanks to all of you who sent me vibes for last Thursday's doctor's appointment. It was routine and went just fine.
I now have even more flicks to add to my queue. As MBARNUM so aptly put it once, I'll have to add several years to my life to view them all. But that's a good thing!

Happy B DAY to MusicGuy

Happy Birthday DR MusicGuy! I'll take you out to lunch when you get back in town. What are you now-- 35?
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, I didn't make it to the matinee performance of Sunday in the Park with George, but I did manage to snag a pretty decent orchestra seat for tonight - ten rows back, two seats off the aisle. And I was able to use one of the discount vouchers too! HOO and RAY!
Alas, I also tried to get a ticket for Richard Goode's sold out recital this afternoon at Lincoln Center, but they had the cancellation set up, and it did not look like anyone was cancelling. Ah, well.. I get to see Sunday, and I'm very excited to see it. It truly is my favorite show, and I also happen to have a few friends in this cast too. :)

...But it nice coming home for a bit and relaxing.
After I left DR elmore's office, and hugged DR edisaurus and Greg, I headed back uptown to meet my friend, Paul. We walked here, we walked there. We went to Virgin - where they added a few more two-disc sets to their $10 Sale. So, I picked up "Casablanca" and "Doctor Zhivago".
Then we headed over to The Little Pie Shop for some pie and hot cocoa and conversation and gossip. All in all, a wonderful day so far.
-
Oh! Word of "warning" - at least for the male members of HHW:
Paul is staying at The Paramount Hotel. The bathrooms in the hotel lobby have mirrored walls. On all four sides of the room. With low-placed urinals, and no "modesty" dividers. Alas, the homeless man who unfortunately came in there with me this afternoon, proceeded to admire himself and "himself" from all angles. And I think he was trying admire me too.
:o
-
OH! And it seems like almost all the cookware I placed on craigslist yesterday will be bought and picked up by tomorrow night! In fact, there are two people heading up now to buy a couple of things. :)
I hope the DVDs I put up for sale start attracting some offers.
-
DR edisaurus - Thank you for a wonderful brunch! I hope you and Greg have/had a safe and on-time trip back to Atlanta tonight.
*Did you find the Madeleine/Macaroon place? ;)

Hello, DR TPunk!
How ya' feelin'?
-
Happy Birthday DR MusicGuy!
-
My 89-year-old mother needs my attention today. She needs me to:
1) Set up a Yahoo! email account for her
and
2) Take her shopping so she can buy Scotch
I hope when I'm that age those are the kind of needs I have.
Me too! Have fun with your mom.
-
Heading down now to clean my bathroom and then head back to the den for more viewing. I haven't watched the ladies final skating from last night though I read the results in the newspaper this morning. I'm not sure I'm all that interested in watching it.

Hi Jose! I am just about over my illness which was diagnosed by my doctor as bronchitis. I did not go to work a single day last week.

I am caught up on today's posts. The cats are snoozing on the couch and I am catching up on Friday night's Monk and Psych episodes. All in all a pretty good afternoon.
-
DR TPunk - Bronchitis - YUCK! A lot of that going around right now, unfortunately. I hope you're able to get back to work and back up to speed this week.
-
Well, I am hoping that I can hold off until tomorrow to see my doctor.
DR TCB - Is there anyone you could call just to get a consult? Or maybe even stop by a drugstore pharmacist's desk to get some sort of opinion? Or you could Google for spider bite pics... :-\
~~~~~BITE-BE-GONE VIBES TO YOU!~~~~~
CONGRATS to DR JOSE on his new blog. It looks great! A blog seems such a natural for you. I'll check in from time to time.
DR Jeanne - Thank You.
I had been toying with writing a blog for a while, and then after coming across some pretty decent ones over the past couple of months... and then realizing they were all WordPress-based, well...
The WordPress.com software really is amazing user-friendly, and the provided templates can make even drivel look like Shakespeare - and there are a few gussied up blab-fests out there. It's also web-based, and free. They also offer a stand-alone program if you happen to have your own hosting site, WordPress.org.
I'm still finessing some stuff, and there are bunch of blog and site links I still want to add, so... But again...
Thank You.
Very much looking forward to hearing DRs FJL and JoseSPiano's reactions to the new production of Sunday... :)
The last time I saw this show - which was during the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration - I was sobbing violently during the finale, runny-nose and everything! Thankfully, my friend, Michael, who had come with me, had brought a pack of Kleenex since he knew the show would be a cry-fest for me. However, he was still surprised at my reaction to the show that night. So... We shall see... If anything, it will make a good blog entry. ;)
Watching some kind of "gospel musical" on BET....whew!
Bedbug Begone to DR ELMORE.
A keyboard sounds like a great idea..
I was watching THE STERILE CUCKOO - Liza M. gives a nice performance, and it's so strange to see the college scenes from 1969 with all of the guys dressed just like we used to....and with all of our old hair....and haircuts.
Well... I am actually trying to figure out already how to summarize my upcoming "mass audition" experiences. I have UPTAs (http://www.upta.org) in Memphis the week after next, and then the big Spring SETC (http://www.setc.org) convention in Chattanooga the first week of March.
I know I will most likely write about the BBQ and other local delicacies in Memphis, and about the Choo-Choo in Chattanooga, but I am wondering just how "vague" I will/should have to be in regards to describing some of the more "interesting" auditions. Stay tuned.
-
You can always go into a stall...for future reference. :)
There is one... And it has no door.
-
There is one... And it has no door.
Classy, huh?
*However, I think it's set up that way since the lobby bathrooms also serve as the bathrooms for the lobby bar, which tends to attract a pretty decent-sized crowd on a nightly basis. A lot of bathrooms - here in NYC and elsewhere - are now set up with the "bare essentials" in order to discourage patrons from using the facilities for unseemly purposes.
-
DR JoseSPiano - if you're using the stall as DR George suggests, wouldn't you be facing away from the opening with no door - and the mirrors? :)
I think at the end of the day, There Will Be Blood will go down as one of the most overrated films of all time. I think a lot of these inane critic who were drooling all over themselves with their comparisons to Citizen Kane are, in years to come, going to wish they could forget what they wrote.
Well, DR td, DR JoseSPiano is much more qualified to do this than I; I just don't have time to read the book right now. But at a quick skim:
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51HZ3DKGA3L._SS500_.jpg)
It's your standard coffee table book, a la the Wicked Grimmerie, or some of the other shows that have a "book" out now. Nice presentation encasing three different tomes:
Mary Poppins Design Folio, which contains creative team sketches of the costumes and set designs, along with selected quotes from the team. Nice feast for the eyes, but pretty brief.
Mary Poppins On Broadway, which could be the special souvenir book sold at the theatre, except that it probably contains a lot more photographs. All stage shots, with detailed captions.
"If you want to find Cherry Tree Lane...", which contains the meat, looks to have a good balance of narrative to photos. It covers, briefly, the original books and the movie, then spending the bulk of concentration on the adaptation to the stage musical. Shots of the creative team at work, the actors, etc., etc.
Is it worth the $50 list price? [I obtained it for substantially less.] Well, that would be up the collector. I'd say if you're really invested in the show, it would be worth it.
-
Back from an interesting afternoon with my mom. First we met Richard, Rob, and Mary Linda at Panera for lunch. Then we went to the grocery where she bought 2 bottles of Scotch and some new eyebrow pencils. At her house, I was unable to create her Yahoo! email account because her internet connection kept quitting. After 34 minutes, 20 seconds on the phone with Earthlink she can now receive email on that account and surf the 'net. However, she still cannot send email and I suspect it has something to do with the new phone system they've installed at the retirement community.
We'll try again next weekend.
-
Well, I'm off to the theatre... And if you see reports on the news tonight about a theatre patron who can't stop crying, well.... ;)
Laters...
This morning I woke up and, to my joy, found it had not snowed. Before the cold front moved in we went for a walk & stocked up on groceries.
It began snowing shortly after we returned home & has been during so for the last two hours. I'm about to cancel dog training class tomorrow.
I just let Sherlock in from his deck & he scattered snow all over the house.
Jose - I had misunderstood your post. I thought your friend who works with Roundabout was getting you a comp or walking you in. Oh, well - you know you're always among the first two or three people I think of when there's an extra ticket; this one especially would have been so much fun to have seen with you.
I did run into DR Julie at SUNDAY AT THE ROUNDABOUT WITH GEORGE. I enjoyed the show quite a lot, with the second act much more "exciting" in a visceral sense than the dellberately-paced (intentionally so) first act. A thrilling scenic design that defies all logic as to the effectiveness of projections - there are people who say why pay theater prices for film-like sets and they will dislike the design on principle, but I thought it was amazingly good.
DR FJL - Is this the same as the recent London production of "Sunday" which used projection a lot? I don't mind the "projected" scenery if it adds to the show and is effective. I thought the use of a projected Helicopter in Miss Saigon was more effective than the original "real" one. the projected scenery in the "Woman in White" just made me dizzy - and not in a pleasant way. It was too distracting - but not enough so to make me forget the score!
BTW - long ago DR Allan has seen the new Doyle version of "Merrily" - once again the songs are ruined by the actors breaking from lyrics and playing a few notes on their flutes or whatever.
-
There are some studies and theories that the venom from some spiders can give relief to those suffering from MS, Huntington's Chorea etc. Perhaps your spider bite will Help the shoulder TCB. I've also read that some of the toxins from marine creatures (possibly the Stone Fish) may be a help in relieving musle pain. (I don't think the studies were comtemplating the use of Death as a relief).
Tomovoz - I had been on notice about the WOMAN IN WHITE projections, and (seriously) took a Dramamine before seeing that show. I didn't get dizzy, but there's no way of knowing whether the Dramamine prevented me from getting dizzy or if I wouldn't have gotten dizzy anyway.
From the pictures I have found, it is most likely a brown recluse, even though my arm isn't as swollen as last time.
I have been using an Epsom Salt poultus on it this afternoon to try and draw some of the poison out, but so far it doesn't look much different.
I wouldn't inflict that on my worst enemies.
Didn't the New York production of Jane Eyre also use "projected" scenery?
Great picture Jane.
-
TD-cute Dixie.
Sherlock is very good & knows to wait while we dry him off, his bolting was unusual & all my fault. He was excited from playing in the snow, & the fact there wasn't any room for the new trick I have been teaching him. I say "wipe your feet" & he goes in a circle. Today I finally attempted the trick on the towel, just inside the door. Sherlock is too big to make a circle in the amount of space there & decided to run around the house instead.;D
-
Thank you TPunk. Be sure to watch the kitten video.
Yes, and bee stings are said to help MS, as well. (I'm not joking.) Lyprinol, an extract from the New Zealand green-lipped mussel, helps with pain syndromes and heals the intestinal lining. But it's not toxic--just unusual. Tomovoz's point is quite correct.
-
I knew someone who did the bee stings for awhile, and for awhile she had more mobility in her arms. Eventually she stopped doing it.
I knew someone who did the bee stings for awhile, and for awhile she had more mobility in her arms. Eventually she stopped doing it.
Personally, I'd have to be pretty desperate to do the bee stings. (There is a homeopathic equivalent, Apis.) But, then again, I had 16 weeks of schlerotherapy, which was pretty awful.
I tried the Lyprinol several years ago to heal my gut and I do think it helped. It was quite painless; I took the capsules.
Richard and I just finished watching The Cardinal and now I'm going to bed. Tomorrow is the first day of my first 5-day work week since the week of Dec. 10. Gonna be a lo-o-o-ong week.
'night!
-
I had a very full evening of viewing.
I began by finishing WORDS AND MUSIC BY JERRY HERMAN. When it came on PBS, I watched it in HD. This anamorphically enhanced DVD will do just fine.
-
I also watched the first bonus feature on the disc, the complete "Hello, Dolly" number done at the White House. Amazing how they can sync the cast recording up to the live footage to give it better sound.
-
I did end up watching the five top ladies skate their long programs from last night.
Poor Kimmie Misner. She is the latest in what I call the Elaine Zayak syndrome: extremely gifted as a little girl who could pull off these incredible programs with next to no seeming effort. However, as she began to grow up, her timing was lost with the increase in body size and weight, so that by the time she reached 18, it was impossible to skate the programs she did so effortlessly as a younger competitor. With age came experience but also a different body she had to learn to control, and for many girls, it's next to impossible to learn how to skate all over again.
-
It has been raining all day. It is nice.
-
I watched the men's program, too.
Astounding that the evening ended in a tie between Evan Lysechek and Johnny Weir, but because Evan won the long program, he was declared the winner. I think Johnny got robbed frankly. His skate was much more graceful with perfect jumps and an ease and security to the landings than Evan didn't have. His program was powered through but very ragged.
Anyway, if they can continue to skate at this level, they should do fine at the World's this year. Sadly, because two of the top three ladies medalists are 14 and 15, they're not old enough to compete at the Senior World Championships and will represent the US once again at the Junior Worlds. The three ladies elected to be sent to the Senior Worlds finihsed 3rd, 5th, and 7th at our nationals. Not a hopeful sign.
-
I watched the SAG Awards, of course.
Was not surprised at the show of love for THE SOPRANOS (won all three drama series categories), but that sentimental vote did cost some others well deserved trophies, too. Very pleased with the TV comedy winners, all deserving.
As for the movies, no shocking surprises, and I think these might very well be the ones who go on to win the Oscars. Only Ruby Dee was a mild surprise, and it was obviously a career award as well as for her performance in AMERICAN GANGSTER.
-
Then, I started the next review copy, that BET movie called BLACKOUT. Jeffrey Wright is the most familiar face in the film (he also produced it). It's a slice of life about the events in a Brooklyn neighborhood (East Flatbush) over two harrowing days during the blackout of 2003.
Pretty good so far, but I'm only about 55 minutes in. I'll finish it tomorrow.
-
I will not sleep until I see page 10.
-
I guess I could look at yesterday's page 10.
-
Oh, page 10!!!
-
Almost done watching a motion picture.
-
Good Evening!
I'm back from seeing Sunday in the Park with George... And I think I'm almost done crying. For tonight. :( ;)
-
I'm going to write a bit and then head on downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
Jose - I had misunderstood your post. I thought your friend who works with Roundabout was getting you a comp or walking you in. Oh, well - you know you're always among the first two or three people I think of when there's an extra ticket; this one especially would have been so much fun to have seen with you.
Fred - No worries. I do have a friend who does walk me in from time to time, but we get those location passes, and depending upon who doesn't show up to take their seats determines where we end up sitting. Sometimes we get something decent, sometimes we get the last two rows of the mezzanine. And sometimes we start off in decent seats, then have to give them up for the second half since the original "owners" showed up late. I really wanted to see this show - whether it be this afternoon, tonight, or even Tuesday, so...
In any case, I'm glad I got to spend a couple of hours with my friend, Paul, since we hadn't seen each other in about three years. And when I got to the box office around 3:30, they had just released some of the held subscriber seats over to the "qualifies for the discount" pile. So, it truly all worked out in the end. *Now, I do plan to see the show again, so...
-
And, yes, I loved the production. I've always loved the show, and this production really knocked it out of the Park for me. ;) -And I agree with DR FJL about the "excitement" in the second act. They way the first act is paced, performed, interpreted, really makes you have to have to second act. But I've always loves the second act, so...
Tonight's audience was filled with lots of theatre folk: Christopher Fitzgerald, Jonathan Dukochitz, Michael Arnold, Stephanie Block, Sebastian Arcellus, Tituss Burgess (Big Hug!), James T. Lane (the current Richie in A Chorus Line - another Big Hug there too), a couple more of the Young Frankenstein, Wicked, A Chorus Line, Little Mermaid, etc., etc., etc., cast and crew. OH! And Governor Spitzer too!
After the show, I was able to catch up a bit with Brynne O'Malley (who plays Celeste #1/Elaine), and Mary Beth Peil (Old Lady, Blair). Mary Beth and I haven't seen each other since we did Sweeney Todd back at the Kennedy Center, and it was so nice to see her again, and to give her a Big Hug - and to know that she still remembered who I was! (Whew!)
-
And I even managed to catch up with Daniel Evans when he left the stage door. Surprisingly, there was no one really "stage dooring" tonight, except for friends and family. In any case, I thanked him profusely for his work, and we chatted about the show for a bit too. And, yes, he is a cutie! And with that accent... ;)
-
Jose - I did find that all very awkward with the way those passes were handled. At 2 on the dot (no pun intended), someone outside the theater was announcing that the doors were closing, so i raced in, and they were putting people from the "line" into any empty seats. Of course, there were loads of people inside who just hadn't sat yet, since everyone knows a 2:00 show starts at 2:05 or 2:07, and this one was no exception. People from the "line" were being seated, and had to be moved for seatholders that got in before the show started. Here's a thought for the Roundabout: What you're gaining is good will from people from the "line" who are paying rush rates, and turning off (a) people who are paying full price and (b) subscribers who get there on time, which in any normal theater is 2:05, by using this ludicrous method of seat filling. If someone buys a ticket, that seat should be theirs, not because of any legal right, but because the fiscally sound thing to do is to not inconvenience full-pricers and subscribers (by forcing them into rotten seats until intermission) to accommodate rush people.
-
Whew! It was a busy weekend. I got up Saturday and cleaned like crazy before my parents arrived to go shopping. We had a nice day Saturday and today I slept in and did a ton of laundry.
I've also been working outside. After our below zero weather last week, it's been in the 40s this weekend. We get one more day of it and then we're back into the teens, so I got the driveway cleaned off and a lot if the sidewalk. I also swept out the garage and tried to do as many things I as I could before it gets cold again
-
Good evening, all!
We're safely home---a nice, uncrowded flight, and in 2 minutes it will be the birthday of my own DH!
-
Now to catch up...
Yeah, it is a bit of a weird process with the location passes, especially considering that whole foyer is not the most "entrance friendly" place anyway.
However, most of those location passes are given out to volunteers, office staff, phone sales people, etc. And they are basically free(!) tickets. And the passes do state that if it turns out there are no seats available, you may have to leave the theatre or stand in the mezz -- which has happened from time to time, since they give out a set number of location passes for each performance. The passes are numbered too, and some of those numbers - the priority - depends on who you are.
But, yes, it's a totally messy system. And having the ushers going row to row right before curtain and shoving people into those seats is most disruptive.
-
They brought me a couple pieces of furniture - one is an antique spool cabinet that my mother painted years ago and then regretted it, so she started stripping the paint off. It's about half done. It's on a really cool iron stand. It's had enough done that I think my only choice is to keep stripping the paint and refinish. The other is a cool tea cart. The rubber around the big wheels is off. One of the big wheels comes off and one of the little wheels comes off. It's a really nice piece of maple furniture. There are a few scratches but not many. It's a piece I've always liked. So, I'm going to try to fix the wheels and fix it up a bit. I was very happy to get both
-
*The Rush Tickets at the Roundabout are the last two rows of the Mezzanine. -And, as I found out from my friend, Michael (yes, that Michael), who saw the show tonight from up there, they're actually decent seats. Not "obstructed view" like the box office diagram has them labeled. Just a steep angle.
-
I also got all my laundry done today. Whew!
Next weekend either 1, 2 or 3 friends are coming from the lake to see movies that haven't been there and spend the night, at least I think they are spending the night. Anyway, it's gotten me in gear to really clean up my whole house. I'm going to go through all the piles of things and find a place for everything. It's going to be a lot of work this week, but I can't wait until it's done.
-
DR elmore3003, I feel very badly about the loss of your piano.
Hearing of this recent turn of events made me cry.
-
But it was so great to see DR Jose and DR Elmore that I couldn't stay sad for too long.
We did indeed have a lovely breakfast, and one fun thing about it was that Peter's (Bat Mitzvah girl's dad and my partner in crime) dad, his dad's GF, and P's 2 brothers and 1 wife and kids were at Barney GGG, so we got to see them again before we all parted ways.
I adore their family, especially Peter's dad, so I was very happy to run in to them!
-
DR Jose came bearing his very own cookies. Levain had better keep on their toes!
-
Happy Birthday to DR MusicGuy!
-
Happy birthday. Mister Edi's Husband
(almost a Courtship of Eddie's Father/Miyoshi Umeki reference)
-
I loved The Courtship of Eddie's Father....
People let me tell you bout my best friend....
"Best Friend", by Harry Nilsson
People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He's a warm hearted person who'll love me till the end.
People let me tell you 'bout my best friend,
He's a one boy cuddly toy, my up, my down, my pride and joy.
People let me tell you 'bout him he's so much fun
Whether we're talkin' man to man or whether we're talking son to son.
Cause he's my best friend.
Yes he's my best friend.
(scattin' finish).
The big news here is that after years of vet bills and medication, I have discovered that tuna packed in oil is what I really needed to get Callie and Boo to fill the litter box as God intended. I've given them tuna every day and boy are they doing well. Boo isn't throwing up as often and Callie certainly isn't having trouble in the poop department.
Thanks FJL, I remembered most of the lyrics but don't think I ever knew it was Nilsson
OY! I seem to have a bidding war going on right now for the remaining pieces of Calphalon I have for sale. I've just sent pics and follow-up e-mails to two people, and it may be a matter of who gets here first! One guy wants to head over here in the morning (early! - ugh), but there's a woman who said she's willing to head over now!?!?!?!?
Who knew?!?!?
*Of course, now I'm spying the rest of my pots and pans and small kitchen electrics I haven't used in years - and, really, have no use for. Hmm... KA-CHING!
-
Well, he we are in DR elmore's office:
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/JoseSPiano/Gang1.jpg)
Oh, the flash didn't go off... let's try that again..
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/JoseSPiano/Gang2.jpg)
-
Hmm... Well, let's try one more time...
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/JoseSPiano/Gang3.jpg)
Still not right...
-
Well, now that I've fixed the printer, let's try one more time...
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/JoseSPiano/Gang4.jpg)
:)
-
And here is the view from DR elmore's office window:
-
I will say, the best part of the day was seeing DR elmore smile again. :)
-
*Did you find the Madeleine/Macaroon place? ;)
All I can say is:
I BLAME JOSE!!
-
DR FJL - Does Skip need any pots, pans, bakeware, small kitchen electrics, gadgets, kitchen scales, mandoline... ???
-
All I can say is:
I BLAME JOSE!!
OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!!!
AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
So... What flavors did you get?
-
NOOOOOO!!!!!!!
:)
-
And here is Jose, fixing DR Elmore's computer. The breadth of DR Jose's talent and knowledge never fail to astound me!
And you can also see what a great view Elmore has at his desk!
-
So... What flavors did you get?
Oh my god, they were absolutely SINFUL! OK, I got 4 but I shared them with Greg:
(in order of preference)
Coconut/Orange
Aprocot/Champagne
Cointreau
Rhubarb
I think I was making orgasmic noises as I was eating the first one. Good thing we were sitting outside! ("I'll have what she's having"!)
-
OK, and we didn't eat all 4 at once---we took two on the plane, along with their Ceoque Monsieur, so we didn't have to eat crummy airport food.
-
Let's go back in time, to Christmas in January:
-
Finished with motion picture watching and shall now do some revising on what I wrote this very day. Something was bugging me and I think I figured out what it was and can now do what need be done.
-
Each ornament on this tree was a treasure---many of them created by Anthony!
-
And here is the view from DR elmore's office window:
(http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e49/JoseSPiano/TheView.jpg)
WOW! Great View. It could be in a movie!
-
YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of those flavors are truly out of this world. She usually has three different chocolate ones, and you can actually taste the difference in "degrees" of chocolate between them. But I think my favorites are the Chocolate/Banana, and the Coffee/Hazelnut ones.
And does a Croque Monsieur travel well?
-
I will say, the best part of the day was seeing DR elmore smile again. :)
That was the best part of the trip---along with hearing DR Elmore splendiferous arrangements. Greg and I both were sitting there thinking how lucky we were to be able to hear these songs, and we hope they will be released someday soon!
-
Thanks so much for sharing the pics and tales of your trip to New York. I feel like I'm there too
-
And does a Croque Monsieur travel well?
It travelled well to the airport, and continued to travel well in our stomachs... :)
It was actually different from most I've had---it was more like a panini, grilled ham and cheese with the sauce. Tasty, but not in the same league as the macaroons!
-
More Christmas in January. We both felt very fortunate that DR Singdaw was willing to make the trip into the big city to see us!
-
We also did a little antique shopping. This item took on a whole new meaning:
-
Maybe Elmore could "take a whiz" to the bugs!
-
For Dr Laura:
I defied protocol and snuck a picture of the ceiling of the synagogue before the ceremony. I took this holding the camera in my lap and aiming up and was happy to get something.
This synagogue has lots of beautiful stained glass!
-
And for my "photo finish", a few pics of snow at home in Atlanta:
-
And my cabbage didn't freeze. Hooray!
-
And what was waiting for us at home tonight:
(3 out of 4...)
-
Thanks so much for sharing the pics and tales of your trip to New York. I feel like I'm there too
I wish you had been. But now that we have this wonderful new blog to advise us, we should return sometime soon for another culinary exploration and more blaming of you-know-who!
-
I am wondering just how "vague" I will/should have to be in regards to describing some of the more "interesting" auditions. Stay tuned.
Maybe that's for the people who "upgrade" their blog memberships. Cha-ching!
-
Marble.. Granite... Bronze... Durable...
LOL!
-
I've also read that some of the toxins from marine creatures (possibly the Stone Fish) may be a help in relieving musle pain.
I used to assist an editor in LA who had severe arthritis---he couldn't even turn his head, he had to turn at the waist to look around at something. He took very expensive medication for this, just for the pain.
Several years later I had lunch with him and noticed that he could now turn his head. He said that he had been vacationing in some tropical climate and was swimming when he found himself in the midst of a bunch of jellyfish. He was stung all over his body and had sores all over. But a few weeks later, his arthritis (rheumatoid, I think) disappeared and he only had to take an aspirin occasionally for pain. I told him that he needed to tell some doctors or something in case it was something they could experiment with for a cure.
-
From the pictures I have found, it is most likely a brown recluse, even though my arm isn't as swollen as last time.
TCB----see a dr! That's a serious thing! My ex MIL had to go to the hospital when she was bitten!
-
Thanks to all the DR's for the travel vibes!
-
I haz revised, fixed, and futzed, not necessarily in that order.
-
I love the crow and kitty video, too. I know my cats would never be on such friendly terms with a crow! (well, they might "pretend" to be, at first....)
-
I also loved the Sherlock pix! What a lap dog!
-
bk, is it still flooding in the City of Studio?
-
OK, there's page 12---now my DH and I are going to collapse!
Nytol!
-
I watched the men's program, too.
Can we get Project Runway or Straight Eye for the Queer Guy to do something with Johnny Weir's costume?
der Brucer
-
Good evening, all!
We're safely home---a nice, uncrowded flight, and in 2 minutes it will be the birthday of my own DH!
Say "Happy Birthday" for me. Did you buy him a tie for the occasion?
der Brucer
-
Happy Birthday Music Guy!!!
I hope you had a lovely day with surprises and friends!
-
re: SAG Awards show -
Has Debra Messing NO tits at all?
der Brucer
-
No flooding for a couple of days.
-
Personally, I think Daniel Evans is quite the little cutie. He played a scientist in the Doctor Who Christmas special, The Christmas Invasion (and unfortunately got killed off, but he was very good up until then).
I agree about his being a cutie. :D There is a picture of him (in costume...and wig) where he looks a LOT like Matthew Modine...well, to me. :)
-
Sorry to hear about you having to give up your piano Elmore...
-
Jane, that's a great picture of Sherlock in the snow! Thanks for posting it...even if it did put us in widescreen. ;D
-
Jane, great picture of Sherlock... He looked like he was having a blast
-
Jose, lovely photos of you, Elmore, Edi, and DH Greg!
-
Check out this crow that rescued a kitten, amazing! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZjZQ6KkiUk)
I've already forwarded this to a couple of friends of mine. :D
