To get primed for the Olympic skating, I rewatched the ladies national championships again starting with the girls ranked 10-7 after the short program. None of themwere ready for the big leagues. (Of course, Alissa Cizny, who somehow won last year's national championship, is the primary reason we only got to send two girls to Vancouver this year instead of our usual three representatives. She scored so poorly at the Worlds last year that it cost us a slot.  She skated very poorly at this year's Nationals, and finished well out of contention. Deservedly.)

OK, my afternoon internet surf is concluded, and I need to head down, clean up the lunch stuff, and then get to work on today's work disc.

Last night, I watched MAKE WAY FOR TOMORROW, perhaps the most heart-breaking movie I've ever seen.

It's also one of the finest films to come out of Hollywood's Golden Era.

The really sad thing about it is that the story is just as relevant today as it was back in 1937 when the picture was made.  Indeed, it's probably even more so.

I'm looking forward to seeing it on Monday.

Have a box of Kleenex handy.

West Hollywood Close to Ban on Sale of Dogs and Cats

How much is that puppy in the window? It's not for sale.

Those worried about the number of designer dogs ending up at California shelters will be heartened by the news that the West Hollywood City Council is moving closer to approving a ban on certain kinds of pet sales. According to DVM Newsmagazine, the city council members approved upon "first reading" an ordinance proposed by council member Jeffrey Prang that prohibits the sale of dogs and cats within pet stores. The ordinance must undergo a second reading next week and, if approved, will take effect in March.

I"m not sure if they do this anywhere in the US.  But today when i went shopping they had set up a tv and couches in the mall to watch the Olympics. It was pretty cool.

I rarely go to malls anymore.  That was a nice idea.

If you have about forty minutes, total, this is truly incredible.  I thought I would check it out quicly, and then move on; but I was hooked.  If you start with Part 3, I think you will want to see it all.

http://www.airportappraisals.com/

Win Perkins, a real estate appraiser who specializes in airport properties, has posted on his Web site a video he created of Charles Lindbergh's famous and risky takeoff in the Spirit of St. Louis.   According to Perkins, this is unlike any other presentation of the takeoff footage.   Perkins said he "painstakingly assembled news footage from five cameras that filmed Lindbergh's takeoff from Roosevelt Field, Long Island" and "mixed it with enhanced audio from the same newsreel sources."

After you watch the "Takeoff Video (Part #3)", be sure to 'click' on "Contact" on the Left side on the web page to view all of the Videos "Parts #1 thru #4".

My hunch is that after you watch the "Takeoff Video (Part #3)" ... you will want to see the others.

And then, ask yourself: "Would I have had the guts to have done it?"

I saved it to watch later, first checking if Keith wants to see it with me.

Hello. The last few weeks have certainly caught up with me.  I slept for 10 1/2 hours last night and am feeling a cold coming on.  So, i'm going to pass on the Symphony tonight and stay home and curl up with a blanket and watch the Olympics.  It's been nice to just rest today.

What the heck is wrong with NBC's audio coverage of the Olympics?  Last night the audio went out several times during the Opening Ceremonies, and then today, I just watched these three annoucers that were totally out of synch.  I am a couple of hundred miles from the games, but you would think they were broadcasting from the Moon.

The program about YA literature was so much fun, but the lunch left a lot to be desired.  I came home with a pounding sinus headache, so took Tylenol and slept for a couple of hours.  Richard and I have now decorated about 7 dozen Valentine cookies and had dinner and will settle in soon to watch this evening's Olympic coverage.

I heard on NPR that macaroons were overtaking cupcakes as the "in" dessert.  Not sure I've ever had a macaroon

Started out having some breakfast, then moseyed on over to the Hollywood Show.  For the first time EVER there was a line and it took twenty minutes to get in.  It was jammed, and I have to say the lineup was not even that great.  So, the new owners are obviously getting the word out.  However, they have literally sucked the fun out of the show.  I walked into the main room and was shocked to not see the usual rows of tables.  Now each celebrity has their own table and there are black curtains on either side of them, boxing them in.  I found that completely nauseating, and it makes it impossible to see who is where.  As a signer, I would feel totally isolated, like some kind of circus animal in a cage.  Apparently many complaints were lodged and I hope they come to their senses.  This show now feels nothing like it used to.  I will say that Jill Schoelen looks great.  I also said hello to Helen Reddy and we had a really nice chat - I bought her autobiography, which she inscribed to me.
