Title: DO ELBOWS BLEED?
Post by: bk on September 30, 2010, 12:08:34 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes asked the eternal question, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home.  They're currently pondering whether they even HAVE elbows.

Bruce, you look great in the interview. You didn't seem to be distracted by being in a separate room with a monitor at all and you seemed relaxed and funny.

Good morning, all! I am up early for another round of the McGlinnventory this morning.  The only unhappy part of this is that it appears to be a downpour outside. Before I leave, I'll put my laundry together so that I can possibly do it this aftwernoon when I get back. It all depends on the rain. If not, I'll wait till tomorrow morning, but I have to finish it tomorrow; I've got five days in the recording studio after that and I'm running out of underwear.

BK, elbows bleed and bones break, so you might have cracked or broken a bone in the fall. See your doctor, The interview is wonderful! None of your reservations over the videotaping show at all. It's very smooth and you're very charming, although I did keep waiting for "what is it? Fish?"

DR Jeanne, the two students responsible for Tyler Clementi's suicide can be charged with invasion of privacy and i suspect they could be sued by his family for wrongful death. The laws need to catch up with the cyber age, because so many computer crimes - from illegal posting of copyrighted materials to cyber bullying and harrassment - seem to let the offenders off easy. The kid who posted the last Harry Potter book before its publication date got off with a slap on the wrist, and there was a a couple of years ago on one of the chat groups a site for musical theatre scores where people were passing around illegal pdf downloads of vocal scores copyrighted by R&H, Tams-Witmark, MTI, Samel French and others along with published music still under copyright; there's a person on eBay currently selling a CD containing all of these scores. It's all illegal.

Parents will soon need to teach their children about computer laws concerning such things as ownership vs owning a copy of something, public domain vs copyright, and other things. I think we're lucky these days to find parents teaching their children about right, wrong, manners, courtesy, and morality. The only thing bigots and morons are teaching their children is how to continue their cause, as flaming gaper Andrew Shirvell is doing so well. Since I'm not a lawyer, DR cillaliz would be much more informed than I about all of this.

Speaking of Shirvell, DR cillaliz, Mike Cox, the attorney general of Michigan appears to be protecting Shirvell because Cox is the first Republican attorney general in years and Shirvell is part of his conservative clique and supporters. I guess there are a lot of fools in Michigan.

Enough soapbox. I need coffee.

Thursday is a workday.

I also enjoy the Carroll Baker version of HARLOW.....as written about in the notes.....although it is firmly planted in the mid-60's.  Miss Carroll Baker writes about how and why this happened in her autobiography, and it is most entertaining.....once producer Joseph E. Levine got into a race with producer Bill Sargent to get into the theaters as quickly as possible, all hope for an authentic bio-pic went out the window.

DR Elmore that story you wrote about is just awful. I cannot believe the bullying that people do.  If you hear more about what the family of the boy do please post it. I'm curious what the bullies have to say for themselves.  I do hope the boy's family take them to court.

Betsy's eldest brother, a doctor, suffered a stroke yesterday.  He was not his own best patient and waited almost the whole day before his wife made him go to the ER.  He's had his MRI but is undergoing a bunch of other tests today.  He can speak pretty well, but has no use of his right hand.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Lately, I've been become very fond of some of the truly simple and basic pasta preparations such as Linguine Cacio e Pepe (Pecorino and Ground Black Pepper), Spaghetti Aglio e Olio (Garlic and Olive Oil) or al Limone  (Lemon Juice, Olive Oil and Parmigiano-Reggiano).

They all require fresh, high quality ingredients since they are all literally are made up of just three or four ingredients.  There also has to be a proper balance of pasta to condimento. And, of course, the pasta has to be cooked properly too.  When they're made properly - perfectly? - they truly do taste more than the sum of its parts.

*When I come across a new Italian restaurant, one of these simpler preparations is usually my "test" dish.

Otherwise, a plate of gnocchi with pesto or some sort of cream sauce... Delizioso!

Sorry to be E&T the past few days; I've been reading HHW on my itouch when I've had a few opportunities but it's too hard to type messages on it.

My DH and i drove up to Ohio last week to visit friends and relatives. Our motivating factor was that Van Dyke Parks was on tour (for the first time ever!) and since I've never seen him perform, I couldn't miss that! My friend Susan (who dined with us and Bruce once in LA) flew over for that, and another friend from Dayton met us and we took my cousin and his wife. It was a great show; the group who opened for him, Clare (Muldaur) and the Reasons backed Van Dyke on his set. My cousin invited us to stay in the Victorian he was rehabbing in Victorian Village so we (and Susan) slept in the attic on half inflated air mattresses. But the good news was, no bed bugs! We visited my aunt the next day in her assisted living home and then zoomed down to Louisville to meet more friends and see Randy Newman with the LSO. That was a terrific concert and he hung out with us for about an hour afterwards.

I was sorry we didn't have time to detour over to see Ginny. Had we stuck with our original plans to see VDP the night before in Cincy, it would have worked, but things changed due to Greg's work schedule so we ended up just driving straight to Columbus.

After Louisville, we went to Nashville to visit old and dear friends.

Glad to be back home, and today I'm starting a job for the show THE VAMPIRE DIARIES! The guy who directed this is an old friend, I've known him since he was just a kid, so it's great to be working with him!

Oh, to DR Jennifer and anyone with friends/family in Canada who might like JEWS AND BASEBALL, please let them know that we're opening in Toronto and Montreal tomorrow. To see the trailer: http://www.jewsandbaseball.com/trailer.html

We've been getting great reviews from bloggers and the Jewish press, and the general consensus is that you don't have to be Jewish or a baseball fan to really enjoy it. So please spread the word! We need a big weekend for the film to spread out further.

Thank you!

Hello all you people out there in the dark.  First night of staging "Let's Have Lunch" went well.  Almost done with the number.  I must say my cast is gracious and a lot of fun.  My choreographer is brilliant, as I know she would be and very collaborative.  Today, Norma is having a costume fitting and I'm going to attend, should be fantastic.

Hmmmm...when we recorded our narration with Dustin Hoffman, he told us that he didn't want to do the next "Fockers" movie (LITTLE FOCKERS) but it looks like now they've worked out some agreement and he will do 6 scenes. He didn't seem to like the script and they had replaced the original director. Randy isn't scoring it, either. (I got to go to his scoring session for MEET THE FOCKERS!)

I wasn't crazy about the first two so I don't imagine I'll go see it, even if Dustin is in it!

I actually haven't heard much about it, and neither have a bunch of my friends. However, the general buzz seems to be that it can't be anything but good.  He's got a good ensemble, and most of the show is apparently based on the presentations he gave in L.A. earlier this year. -And it seems that everyone loved those. Classic Pee-Wee!

Alas, since it's a limited engagement, there are no discounts currently being offered.

Which is why I probably won't see it. I see many things but I'm not paying $67.50 (the cheapest ticket available) to sit in the balcony for this show. I think I mentioned this a few days ago.

I go to Baker's Bounty every Wednesday at the Union Square Greenmarket. They have a wonderful pumpkin chocolate chip bread/cake. It makes a great dessert. They also make excellent hematomas (Hamantaschen for the uninitiated). I called them that in jest and made an elderly Jewish woman VERY confused. I thought it was funny, she didn't understand and was borderline offended. I also recommend the foccacia and their pecan pie.

BTW (by the way in internet speak) my doctor told me my blood sugars looked great (hurray...and rather suprising) but my cholesterol is way high (and he demanded to know why I stopped taking my cholesterol med...I had some lame excuse for him).

He also said that I am highly vitamin D deficient. Says that might be why I take two hour naps on my days off. I have to pick up some mega-dose prescription of vitamin D. We shall see what it does for me.

Thank you!

There was an ad for the movie in the paper today!   It said that it is playing at one theatre in Montreal.  It's not near where I live. But there is a large Jewish community there.

In regards to Tyler Clementi's tragic death, I just hope and pray that his family and friends are able to grieve in their own way and in private(!) over the next couple of days and weeks. Sadly, with all of the media attention being paid to the situation - and the circumstances leading up to his death DO deserve attention - I'm afraid they're going to be dealing with microphones and cameras being shoved in their faces whenever they're out in public.

He may be "a bit old" in "real life" to play Moonface, but whenever he's on stage - or even just walking on the UWS or in Hell's Kitchen -  Mr. Grey is still quite ageless, timeless.

I've always loved pasta and used to eat it frequently. It is not allergy-friendly, though, or cholesterol-friendly, or weight-friendly--at least for my body--so I don't eat it often now. I do still love fettuccine alfredo. The best fettuccine alfredo I've ever had was in Quebec at a little place called the Inn of the Black Sheep. Wonderful! I wasn't impressed with the pasta I had in Italy, but I was staying in--and eating in--real dives.

DR Jeanne - Well, they do make gluten-free and wheat-free pasta now, so... In regards to cholesterol, there are plenty of non-dairy, non-meat sauces out there are most definitely cholesterol-free. And, remember, olive oil is a "good fat" as well as cholesterol free (since it's not from an animal).  However, fettucine alfredo which is made with cream and cheese and butter, well, that's a totally different story.

Let alone one featuring "My Favorite Things" sung by Lea Michele?  -I wonder if she'll be auto-tuned? -Seriously, I wonder if she'll be auto-tuned.

*I like Lea Michele, but I'm pretty sure there will be a 50th Anniversary edition of the soundtrack.  Then a 55th? 60th? 65th?

DR Jose, have you heard anything about PeeWee's show? I'm getting ready to plunk for tickets for when I take my mom et al up, and was just wondering, before I spend almost $600...

AND it's the first show at the newly renamed Stephen Sondheim Theatre!

Never mind, found it:  Shawnee Smith.  I guess I remember her from "Becker," though that's odd because I never watched that show, LOL.

She was great in a sitcom from ages ago called "All Is Forgiven" with Bess Armstrong, Carol Kane and a few others. It was kind of like a Dick Van Dyke show in that it features the homelife of Armstrong, a soap writer, and then her life at work. Smith was Armstrong's step-daughter.

Friday afternoon greetings!  The grantwriters had a fabulously successful conference today and I'm a tired board member.  Left the house at 7:30am and picked up the morning speaker at her hotel, which was on my way.  She did a fantastic job, as did the break-out speakers, and the grantmakers who comprised the funders' panel that closed the day.  The conference food was a cardiac diet minefield - wraps with lots of cheese & mayo, potato salad, macaroni salad, and individual bags of chips.  Fortunately there was fresh fruit still on the breakfast buffet, so I ate more of that at lunchtime.

My favorite quote of the day from Maryn Boess, our featured speaker:

"I never say never, except maybe sometimes."

I had to do that over the summer. I was also mega deficient.  I took the mega doses but got busy and never went back for the follow up.  So, I'm probably deficient once again.  I'm going to start taking supplements again

MEGA HEALTH VIBES FOR DW BETSY'S BROTHER!!

Yes DR ELMORE a tragic event......

I am not sure what the laws are in NJ or the home state of the young man - but if anything were to happen to me.....no one could be sued for unlawful death or any other action because as  A SINGLE PERSON WITH NO DEPENDENTS, in Indiana, I am a non-person, except to the Indiana Dept of Revenue.

I'm really looking forward to Saturday night and the opening night of the Sioux City Symphony season.  Sir James and Lady Jeanne Gallway!  I didn't realize until today that she is also a virtuoso flautist.  This is going to be an incredible concert.   It may just inspire me to get my flute out and play again

Ebonie has usually thrown up about once every couple of months, but since Sunday, she's practically thown up every day. :-\ A couple of people think that it's just hairballs and have recommended something called Petromalt.  I've never heard of it, but Amazon.com sells it.  I'll check to see if Fred Meyer has it.

Yes, I hope they are given the privacy they need, but that's what the whole issue is about--privacy. What should be photographed and what shouldn't, what should be made public and what shouldn't. Privacy and tastefulness.

And the related issue of bullying, cyber-bullying in particular.

I hope the family can grieve. But won't the publicity help their cause?  With such a public outcry now hopefully something can be done.

Part two will be be printed on a popsicle stick - after we've finished eating said popsicle. And the dress code for the party proper: a swimsuit and a towel. ???

Laters...

Wow that sounds really interesting.

You can find Petromalt almost anywhere or one of the similar products under different names (I bet your vet even sells something) .  Finding the brand & flavor your cat likes best is the trick.   I gave it to my cats all the time.

Furballs are distinctive looking.  Did you describe what sounded like a furball the people?  Do you brush Ebony on a regular basis?  This is also important to do even with a short haired cat.

I would love more information about D deficiency causing fatigue.  I have been arguing with both my doctor and my naturopath about my constant fatigue.  My family has a history of low thyroid, which is what I assume this is, though my blood tests come back relatively normal.  I wonder if I need D?  What doses should I be taking?

It looks like YouTube requires you to upload an actual file and not hotlink to one that's already on-line.  I have a recording program that can capture YouTube (and other websites) flash videos, but it didn't work on the ABC News interview.  Websites can block that kind of recording/capturing.

Did your doctor check your Free T3 & Free T4 along with your TSH for you thyroid?  Some doctors still only do a TSH.

I suggest you read about D.  The recommended amounts vary along with warnings of not taking too much.  Have you had your D levels tested?  Even though my levels were normal I began taking over 3,000 IU a day hoping it would help my bones.   While my numbers went up I'm still very much in the normal range.

While driving home today I saw a big flashing sign at the beginning of the road work warning me about the possible construction delays beginning Oct 1st. ::)  I bet I wasn't the only person who complained we didn't have any warning about this.

I got lucky today with only an eleven minute delay heading out and a five minute delay (with ice cream in the car) on my return trip.  They seem to be working at night and making good time.  Tomorrow might be our last day caught in the delays as they continue up the road past our turnoff.  If we are really lucky we will miss it altogether tomorrow.

Alas, on the subway ride home, I developed a headache - I have a feeling it may have to do with the pending storm.  And once I got home, there was some landlord/lease stuff I had to deal with, so...  And since I'll be playing auditions all day tomorrow, I think the best thing for me to do right now is to do some stretching, listen to some music, go to bed, and get some sleep.
