I don't recall about the WPM in typing class. With my error rate I'd have had a minus score.

I am sure I got an "A" for effort, though.

I seem to still have a lot of dollar bills left. I think I did not stuff enough g-strings last night.

Had a long but very nice weekend.

The wedding in New Jersey was wonderful. We had a grand time and we are very happy for our friends.

Where in New Jersey was the wedding?

FROM YESTERDAY

Re: No curtains.

I'm going to assume that the producers are the ones behind no curtains. It cost money to have union guys to raise and lower the curtain a few times a performance. I am sure curtains can be raised (and lowered) with a push of a button, but you'll still need to pay those union guys as if they were doing it themselves.

BTW I have nothing against unions they are important

I thought the laws of New York required a fire curtain, that coulld only be raised when the show was ready to start.  I guess I am out touch with Broadway theaters.  Next thing I know, you will be telling me that they no longer use ghost lights.

I never remembered seeing a fire curtain raised before a show started in NYC

BUT

In London theaters during the interval a fire curtain is lowered and raised

That is correct.  The fire curtain must be operated in front of the audience.  Broadway does it at the beginning of the show, and in the UK they lower and raise it at intermission.

Well, my work hasn't been in vain. The Library of Congress may do a Victor Herbert concert in the fall and that would help promote the Herbert Collection. I am very excited about this.

Hmm, do Richard and I need to plan an autumn trip to DC?

I think the date they are considering is Oct 6; I've been asked to keep it open.

DR ChasSmith, I got off the train at 27th Street and went straight to hte Dunkin Donuts. Yum!

OK, I had to look in my high school yearbook to find out my typing teacher's name - Hedwig Taylor.

I took typing from her sophomore year and something called "Notehand" my senior year.  It was shorthand for the college-bound and, while I rarely used the strokes, I did use some of the note-taking strategy when I got to college.

And the word of the day is: ADULATE!

Katz?

It look me several minutes to figure this one out.  And when I finally did, I was not even allowed to groan.

Of course, the big event in our household this week is the installation of our new furnace and air conditioning.  I tried to post the promised photo of the new furnace sitting next to the old one, but got the message that the upload folder is full.

You need to download it to Photobucket, and then post it here.

Harvey Schmidt

visits The Fantasticks in NYC

Over the years, I wonder how many cast members have gotten all excited when they were told that Tom Jones was in the house; only to find out that it was not that Tom Jones.

After her dance recital (Ben was not with us, he was down in Corvallis staying with his grandparents), Taylor and I returned to her home, popped popcorn and watched episodes of the original FLIPPER tv series which we both enjoyed.

Each of you for very different reasons I am sure.

I took that "Notehand" semester, too, and loved it!

Notehand was a not-as-short but easier-to-grasp version of Shorthand, for the casual user.  I retained a lot of it and even used it a few times years later.  I could probably take SOME notes with it even now.  It really gave me great respect and fondness for Shorthand and its variants.  It's a genius system.

My typing teacher in high school was Miss Wilson.  I believe that it was Miss Wilson's first year of teaching.  She was a sweetie.  She always reminded me of the late Dorothy Provine.

Is Melissa Gilbert closing in on a nervous breakdown, or has she already had one?  I worried every week on DWTS whether she was going to make it until the end of the program.
