Well, you've read the notes, the notes were semi-relaxed, and now it is time for you to post until the semi-relaxed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: POSTPRANDIAL!
-
Good morning.
-
Laura, you're at 9999.
Good Morning all.
That is all.
I slept late.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm doing laundry.
-
And, thankfully, my lower back is feeling a bit less twinge-y this morning. Aaahh...
-
Good morning to all

A dear lady from my church has been called home -- rest secure in the Lord's love, Marion; we will miss you terribly.

I'm sorry, Vixmom.

I always found it hard to predict the Emmy acting awards for series as we don't know what episodes that they submit for consideration. If memory serves for comedy series they submit two 30min episodes (or one 1hr episodes) and for Drama series they submit 1 episode.
The acting awards for mini series/movies and guest stars are easier to predict if you HBO, Showtime, AMC and other cable channels.
-
I'm sorry, Vixmom.

I don't know if I'll watch the Emmys or not tonight.
It will depend on my mood at the moment.

We've been getting some rain here in Austin.
Not enough to end the drought, but we'll take anything we can get.
-
Good Morning to All! If vibes are needed by anyone, you can consider them sent!
-
Well... As I sit here at my computer, I keep dozing off. And since I can't really doze off right now...
Laters...

DR MICHAEL S - If I can find my copy of MAD 4 World....I will watch it tomorrow!
-
I am watching CONVICTS 4 on TCM.....nice jazzy score by Leonard Rosenmen.....but I am not sure I can stick with a movie that features Rod Steiger as Tip Toes and Sammy Davis, Jr as Wino.
-
Wake UP!
-
Thanks to everyone for the links to the FREE Kindle books!
The play sounds interesting MR BK.
Although I would rather drive 10 miles in the rain than see a musical version of Sleepless in Seattle.

I don't watch TV, but I have a few favorites among the nominees I'd like to see win:
Margo Martindale for "Justified."
"Friday Night Lights" for anything.
"Dexter"

Good morning, all! Around 2am I was wide awake pondering my telephone conversation today with the Man from Philadelphia, which will have unpleasant moments and which I am not looking forward to. An hour and a half later I went back to bed and slept fitfully. When the alarm went off at 7:30, I turned it off and slept until 10. I'm now awake, bathed, and prepping myself for the Big Phone Call.
Today, Sept 18, is the late John McGlinn's birthday. Once we were friends, and by the time of his death I feared he was getting crazy and desperate enough from unemployment to show up at the doors of Robert Kimball and myself to blow us away; he blamed us for his being asked to leave the Packard Humanities Institute project on Kern and Herbert, and his last six years of life were desperate attempts to reassert himself as THE early American musical theatre genius - a bit of fraud he created and we all once believed - and to find employment. He sadly never realized that most of the reasons no one wanted to hire him were brought on by his own personal demons and problems, and even more sadly he died in squalor and poverty in an apartment with no working utilities where he owed too many months back rent. Very sad.
Last night I watched the Opera Lyon production of Offenbach's musical farce LA VIE PARISIENNE, directed by Laurent Pelly and updated to contemporary Paris, since nothing's changed much in the past 140 years in the tourist world where people arrive daily to play and splurge in Paris. From the cover, I expected to dislike the production, and I quite enjoyed it. Some of the updated text and business in Act One with the PA announcements drove me a bit mad, but then it settled down. I liked the cast immensely, especially the Swedish Baron of Laurent Naori, husband of Natalie Dessay, and the two handsome dandies whose fight over the courtesan Metella sets the farce into motion, Jean-Sebastien Bou and American Marc Callahan, both looking like spoiled rich collegr boys. If I had any major complaints, it's my usual critique of Pelly's updated Offenbach productions: most of the humor comes from the updated scenery and costumes, and not the staging; he organizes things well, his choreographer and he keep things moving, but I don't find much humor derived from staging the dialogue. Some ideas are wonderful: the employees at the terminal dividing the arriving tourists into various groups and the tourists giddily dancing with their luggage, the rich Brazilian and Gabrielle showing up for their party in soccer fan and cheerleader clothes, the amazing acrobatic ballet of the streetcleaners and drunken debutramps before Act Four.
What I missed from the 1958 Renaud-Barrault Company production was the sense of grotesque and outrageousness in the dialogue. Still, the score is one of the best ever written for a comedy and the orchestra and cast sparkle as soon as the music begins.

Congrats on 10,000 posts, Laura

That looks most entertaining DR ELMORE.

Beautiful photo of Daisy DR DOUG R!

That looks most entertaining DR ELMORE.
I think you would enjoy it, DR JRand61. The score is quite wonderful, and the last 4 minutes of the Act Four Finale, praising Parisian Life, are one of Offenbach's most exhilirating can-cans! In Act Three, when Bobinet - Marc Callahan - convinces his aunt's servants to dress up in their employers' clothes to be "society" guests at a party for the Swedish baron, the septet about putting on airs and graces and what a servant learns about their employers from observation and overheard remarks is one of my favorite numbers. Pelly brings out the sexual undercurrent of the musical, but he's not a great director of farce. At worst, it's not funny or crazy enough, but at best, he keeps things moving briskly and he casts really really well.

Strange morning. Was supposed to do a phone interview, but the number I was given is wrong. And the man who set up the interview has turned his phone off. So, needless to say, the story won't get done on time.
-
DR TCB I'm glad you have one co-worker who helps at times.
-
DR Cilla, thanks for the free Friday's link. I will put it on my calendar for next week.

Not for fee. It's a freelance piece and the guy who gave me the wrong number is the one who is supposed to get the story. His fault. Not mine.

Yes and shocking at the same time. I understand how people are lost in the country but not in a city, but then in a city with so many homeless people he could be anywhere & people will pass him by. He is a diabetic without his medication.

Good Afternoon!

Hello, DC Daisy!!!

DR elmore - I keep meaning to ask you: With your love of French operetta, do you have a working - or more than working - knowledge of the French language?

DR elmore - I keep meaning to ask you: With your love of French operetta, do you have a working - or more than working - knowledge of the French language?
It's a working one. I can barely speak it - my accent is dreadful with its southern Ohio twang - and I certainly couldn't understand a French conversation, but I can read it.

Hello!
Congrats to DR Laura on 10,000 posts and lots of great photos!
-
Well, I'm off to my sister's for a while. She wants me to help her to move a bed but it's been raining...hopefully, she has a tarp to cover it all. ::) I hope that I'm back in time for the Emmy Awards!
Have a good day, all!

I am glad to see that the Emmy's are being shown live on the West Coast. They used to be tape delayed. Now if CBS would do the same for the Tony's, I would be a much happier camper.

Sunday afternoon greetings! We are back from Lima where, after church, I attended the ladies' guild meeting and then accompanied Fr. Richard on a home visit to a couple who are both in poor health. The wife was just diagnosed this week with Parkinson's, which didn't surprise me in the least. We stopped for lunch at Culver's in Sidney and I drove from there. We must have passed Mary Linda somewhere on I-75, because Rob said she'd been gone about an hour when we arrived.
I'm ready for a nap...
-
DR Vixmom - condolences to your church family.
-
DR Doug R - nice to meet Dai....aaah-chooo! (Sorry, I'm highly allergic to cats!)

Congratulations to DR Laura on 10,000!

Been mainly sunny and warm here today. September has been pretty good, weather wise so far, which partly makes up for the terrible summer London has had.
Been watching NIGHT OF THE HUNTER again. What a great film! And a pity that Charles Laughton never directed another film.
Must start packing now because tomorrow I fly away for my first ever visit to Turkey, where I'm staying in Istanbul for five days.

Hello, everyone.
Condolences to Vixmom on the loss of her friend.

Travel vibes to new DR Doug R. I hope you have a good trip.

MBarnum, I'd be happy to join you for your Kritzerland tour, schedules and such permitting.

I'm just finishing Laurie King's FOLLY. I REALLY like this book! When I first learned of it I was knee-deep in restoring my old house, and a novel about a woman who was rebuilding an old house while fighting off mental demons was...well, not too appealing. I've really enjoyed it.

Continued vibes to TCB.

Off to a wine dinner in a minute. A limo will be picking me up, so I can actually enjoy the drinking this time. I don't think I've ever been in a limo before.

I've had a 2-hr phone cnference with the Man From Philadelphia and all is well. I'm exhausted from it. but very happy that I am not walking out.

Thank you all for your congratulations.

I had 9523 under the old name. I just decided to stay with the shorter name, since the other Laura had left a long time ago.

Daisy is a beautiful cat. DR Doug, I don't know if you had been reading for a while before you joined us, but I often foster for a local animal shelter. I just turned in my last two kittens for adoptions. I usually take in mothers with tiny babies.

I just spoke to DR Penny O who will be arriving in a few hours.

DR Jane - please tell DR PennyO that I said HI!

Good Evening!
Well... We had another between-show potluck dinner... Well, Molly Smith, the Artistic Director, cooked the entrees - the pork roast and the chicken - and various people brought in side dishes and desserts. Lots of side dishes and lots of desserts.
Needless to say, I ate a lot of food. -And since I was already falling asleep while(!) I was playing during the matinee, well... Tonight's performance could be quite interesting. ::)

Underwhelmed by the opening number of the Emmys.

I just want to know who the dork was that was interviewing people on the carpet. Very strange man.

Hmmm, I am guessing that this will not be one of our top ten posting days!

Kevin I didn't think the opening number was terrific, but I have certainly seen a lot worse (Rob Lowe and Snow White).

I liked (but didn't love) the opening number...and you're right, TCB. There have been a lot worse.

Wow! We just had a local commercial for an applicance store that had a gay couple shopping for appliances.
I know! Pretty cool...and very cute guys!
-
Upset! Jim Parsons over the favorite Steve Carrell.
-
Sophia Vergara looks fabulous!
-
I love what the lead actresses in a comedy did! Very funny!!
-
Melissa McCarthy even got a tiara and roses! :D
-
Another surprise! Laura Linney was favored, I believe.
-
That may have been one of the funniest bits I have seen on an awards show.
-
I think that was a very brave thing for Charlie Sheen to do. Part of his AA 12-Step work.
-
I kept thinking Charlie was going to make a joke about what he said about his former show.

I'm glad there's no tape delay on the West Coast so we can all watch at the same time.

I agree.

I kept thinking Charlie was going to make a joke about what he said about his former show.
I think that is what the audience was expecting him to do. I saw a clip of him last week on Jay Leno, so I figured he would be serious.
-
I am speechless.
-
They're showing commercials for the new show "New Girl" with Zooey Deschanel but they had to recast two of the actors, because the were previously cast in another show, "Happy Endings," which also got picked up. But they're showing clips with one of the actors who's still in the other show.
Interesting. ;)

In some states, it's actually illegal for a business to sell a "used" mattress. Once the plastic cover has been removed, it's considered used. A friend of mine used to be a driver for Mattress Discounters, and whenever he had to pick up a returned mattress, he would end bringing it to mattress re-seller or a homeless shelter. *And, frankly, would you want to buy a used mattress off the showroom floor?

A friend of mine used to be a driver for Mattress Discounters, and whenever he had to pick up a returned mattress, he would end bringing it to mattress re-seller or a homeless shelter. *And, frankly, would you want to buy a used mattress of the showroom floor?
Depends on who slept on it before.

Well... What if someone is still sleeping on it?

The final fight. The trial. The Finale Ultimo. The Bows.
Laters...

THE NEW GIRL sounded like a cute show until I saw the previews.

Downton Abbey !

Okay.

Maggie Smith! Too bad she's not there to accept! I guess she's enjoying her weekend.

I have always enjoyed Kyle Chandler since he was in that previous series where he got the newspaper the day before.

That was it...I used to watch it, too.

I'm back from an eight hour work session, a meal, and the four-mile jog - I'm exhausted. But we got a whole lot done today. Grant wrote and recorded the theme for the web series - so cute, and a total delight. Then we prepared four Guy Haines tracks - the basics, but now that they're done he promises me he'll finish them this week.

Didn't the IN MEMORIAM segment start off so oddly it was like it was going to be a comedy sketch?

That's exactly what I thought.

Who were the singers for In Memoriam?
-
Who were the singers for In Memoriam?
Anna Torv just said The Canadian Tenors. I'd never heard of them before.
-
At least the Emmys acknowledged Betty Garrett when the Oscars did not

I heard that too, but who is Anna Torv?
-
Jean Marsh was nominated for Upstairs Downstairs. Wasn't she a winner over 30 years for the original series?

Okay I have never heard of Fringe. What's it about and what network is on?
-
Also stop the announcer with the "amusing" quips about the winners
-
Didn't the IN MEMORIAM segment start off so oddly it was like it was going to be a comedy sketch?
I think the guy was going to say something else, but got interupted when the clips started

Okay I have never heard of Fringe. What's it about and what network is on?
It's on Fox and it deals with paranormal activity and alternate universes and unexplained events. It's pretty good, but it's not the kind of show that you can just jump into. A lot of stories build throughout the season.
-
I'd be surprised if Modern Family doesn't win.
-
Peter Dinklage for best supporting actor in a drama! I've liked him in everything that I've seen him in.
He was also nominated for an Oscar for "Best Short Subject."
Ha HA!
-
And the best comedy series is "Modern Family!"
-
Did anyone else notice that people in the audience weren't applauding for Gwyneth Paltrow?

Off to a wine dinner in a minute. A limo will be picking me up, so I can actually enjoy the drinking this time. I don't think I've ever been in a limo before.
I used to have a lot of wine dinners. Of course, wine was the entire menu in those days. Last Wednesday, I celebrated 18 years of sobriety.
Congratulations on that.
-
Well now I can get ready to go to bed
-
I've had a 2-hr phone cnference with the Man From Philadelphia and all is well. I'm exhausted from it. but very happy that I am not walking out.
I'm very glad for you, too.

The best moment was the supporting actress in a comedy series presentation! That was hysterical! ;D

Have a wonderful time at the wine dinner, DR John G!
It was quite spectacular. Aged wines from various cellars paired to the culinary creations of one of five chefs. My chef has a Mexican background and his food is largely Latin in nature, so that was what he prepared.
We started with a salmon ceviche in a chilled cucumber soup, followed by a several street tacos atop tortillas filled with mashed black beans (yum). A deconstructed chile en nogada had the right amount of sweet in the walnut/dried fruit sauce with plenty of savory from tart pomegranate seeds, walnut sauce and cilantro (forming the red-white-green of the Mexican flag in honor of Diez y seis de Septiembre).
The surf and turf main course was the most tender part of a strip roast and shrimp with their heads on with various vegetables in a roasted pepper. Dessert was a type of tres leches with fresh figs drizzled in honey. I ate the figs and a taste of the cake before passing it off to be consumed by someone else.
Wines were largely Rieslings with a sensational, too-young Califonrian Chardonnay (2002 Stony Hill; my 1995 Stony Hills are still about 10 years too young), a medium-aged Burgundy and a couple of Champagnes.
And the limo ride was, well, OK, because I didn't have to drive. Even though we also picked up my business partner, the limo itself was soooooo long that the driver had to take a much longer route than I would have taken in my Mazda 3. So, I read and listened to the rain come down.

Good night, TCB.
And good night, all else.
-
Good night TCB and John G.

Never heard of most of these TV shows. Mad Men I have heard of and watched.
-
Citizen Kane was on TCM tonight. I never noticed this before but.....
The whole plot revolves discovering what was the meaning of "Rosebud". But when Kane utters the word he is all alone. So how did they know what he said?
well fortunately someone filmed his whole life so we just had to look at the footage!

today was a bit of an emotionally exhausting day for me - it was my turn to serve as assisting minister and part of that duty is reading a long prayer part of which will mention those in need of special prayers for illness, bereavement etc... when I mentioned Marion's name i started to lose my composure fortunately hers was the last in the list and there is a planned pause there for others in the congregation to speak out other names... the pause was longer than usual but I managed to pull it together to finish the prayer
the prayer is followed by the passing of the peace and the Vixter left her pew to come up and hug me --- I am so blessed in my daughter!!
After church was Marion's wake she was an amazing woman - in her 70's she was out there with Jimmy Carter building houses -- in her late 60's she took second place in her age group in 5 mile race, 2 years later she took 1st place.
Last year she decided the church bathrooms needed to be redone - but there was no money in the budget to do it - so Marion went to Home Depot bought new sinks, tiles and paint and did it all herself - she was 80 at the time
She had some terrible tragedies in her life but she never complained, never wavered in her faith and was always there smiling - she succumbed finally to cancer diagnosed only 6 months ago...
thank you all for your condolences ... I know 81 seems a ripe old age but Marion had not yet hit old age --- she ran rings around the rest of us .....
-
and I didn't watch the Emmys
-
I must get me to bed - a certain daughter of mine needs to be driven to school in six hours
-
DR vixmom - Peace. Sleep well.

bk - As for the disappearing Facebook page for Kritzerland - Did you "upgrade" the old page to new format? If you didn't, well... That's where it went.
Btw, can you customize the URL for the new Kritzerland page to "http://facebook.com/kritzerland" ?
-
How do you customize - I'd need exact instructions. I was never told to upgrade any pages to new format - I didn't create the old page it was just there and had lots of "likes".

-Who set up the old Kritzerland page? DR Michael S?
-
No, it was Cason, I think.

;D

OK... Time for to bed...
Goodnight.

Errant and truant

New guy. :)
I've been pre-approved by his son and daughter. ;D
And the household cat. She likes to sit on my lap. I fell asleep in the recliner while watching a move, once the blanket and cat and I were warm and toasty, I just feel asleep. Embarrassing but really comfortable and easy.
-
Listened to Mulholland Falls tonight.
Goodnight.
Sweet dreams.
;)
-
Otherwise, my life is too dull to mention.
Which is good, I need less drama.
And more focus on the daily maintenance of things.
;D
-
And now the snubs already...Emmys Snub Jeff Conaway—Taxi Star Missing From In Memoriam Segment (http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/entertainment-eonline/20110919/b264554/). Who else was left off?

Nobody listened to Grant's quirky and wonderful theme?
