I can vouch for the fact that you have a lovely smile!   :)

Awwww, shucks mister....I'll bet you say that to every older semi-retired musician that you meet.

By the way, I may have missed a post, but did a little surprise package arrive at Casa Winkworth yet?

Oh and they like niger thistle seed.  If you feed them they will stay in your back yard

I'll give it a try.

It is odd in 3 years of living here I'd never seen one before. But then, I don't spend that much time looking out my kitchen window...so it was just chance I saw it today.

THey like sunflowers, too.  My sister has been growing sunflowers in her yard and often spots gold finches flitting about them.

I probably should have said they will come and feed in your back yard...they don't stay they fly around until some idiot hits them with a golf ball

??hmmmmm.... kind of odd?  But I use what is called a "Media Mail" rate for small packages, and sometimes it is fairly swift, and at other times not so swift.

I wonder if dear Esteemed BK ever uses the "Media Mail" rate, and what his experience has been?

I brought car in from its 60,000 mile matainence (actually 55,000 miles) so I can some hours to kill and I went to the 9:30am showing of Harry Potter and _________(whatever it was called) Besides myself there was one other person in theater.

The film is a lot darker than some of the other. It is definitly not a bright, cheery uplighting story. I have not read the book so I cannot tell you what was left out.

I enjoyed it for what is was 2.5 hr time filler while my car was being worked on.

I used to have a co-worker who insisted, whenever we had an office cake, that only virgins could get the pieces with the icing flowers...

I'll bet that cake got stale fast.

I was somewhat disappointed A THOUSAND SPENDID SUNS was not as beautifully, poetically written as THE KITE RUNNER, but then to me few books are.  Nor was the story as heart wrenching, which some might consider a good thing.  Both books capture the plight of the Afghanistan people, told with completely different stories.

It isn’t fair to expect brilliance every time. So, on its own merits I found the book riveting, obviously since I didn’t put it down until six this morning.

Ginny, it would make a good discussion book.

Has any DR ever used their cell phone as a modem for their laptop?  How does that work for you?

David, does your question have anything to do with this question posed by a reader to the columnist in the New York Times today?

Ding! Ding! Ding!   We have a winner!  :)

I noted during my recent trip that there were times when I did not have access to a wireless network for my laptop.  And, since my phone has an unlimited data plan, I looked it up, and yes - the specs say my phone can be used as a modem.  And then, today's Times confirmed that it can be done.  :)   It sounds from DR Dan (the Man) like it may not work as smoothly as they might want you to think.

In light of our discussion earlier, I thought this entry from wikipedia was interesting:

In Ancient Rome, the Vestal Virgins (sacerdos Vestalis), were the virgin holy priestesses of Vesta, the goddess of the hearth. Their primary task was to maintain the sacred fire of Vesta. The Vestal duty brought great honor and afforded greater privileges to women who served in that role. They were the only female priests within the Roman religious system.

I'm surprised he uses the Post Awful at all. With UPS your packages are tracked even if sent ground and their rates are in line with the USPS for all but the lightest of letters. Their system is much more efficient as well. Yes, there is an occasional loss or damage of a package, but nowhere near as prevalent as the USPS.

Does the recently errant and truant Miss Karen know about shares? :)

If she's helping to enable Cason to do the show, that could be an investment...

Is Saturday the 14th a good day for home improvements also? I have moss on my roof.

According to Elton John, all you have to do is sit on the roof and kick it off.
