Well, you've read the notes, the notes had externals and were waylaid, and now it is time for you to post until the waylaid cows come home.

I first entered the HHW realm in 2002 at the urging of DR JRand and DR Den Mother. And I am glad that I did!

A day without HHW is like a day without sunshine.  ;D

I found HHW in June (I think) of 2002.  I was a fan of BK's on his former label and eventually found this "shimmering, glowing star in the [Internet] firmament." ;)

I believe I arrived at HHW in March of 2007 as a result of an invite that bk posted over at All That Chat regarding HHW's annual Oscar Bash.  I followed the posts as a guest for about a week and decided to create an account.   And am I ever glad that I did!     :)

You may blame DR JMK for my presence on this site.  He had been talking about the sparkling trivia question.  I had read BENJAMIN KRITZER which I bought on Amazon after finding it in a search for something else, and I knew MR BK's name from several CD's I had, so I looked, I liked, and I joined.

My profile says I joined in 2003, but I think it was 2001 but I then had to re-register for some reason or another.  When I joined we were using the old format and many DEAD celebrities used to make pointedly hilarious posts. Frances Farmer, Ethel Merman, and Abraham Lincoln were known to drop by to make pithy comments from time to time.

I missed a few days one year when I had a computer breakdown, but other than that, I have been here everyday.

I enjoy reading MR BK's notes, being "in the know" with our show business mavens, and hearing about the lives of all of our regular readers.  I miss some people who come for awhile - others I don't.  I am most annoyed by people who leave for months at a time and then come back writing they have just been SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO busy.....what the hell do they think we are?  Are we all vacationing millionaires?  MANY regular HHW'ers have demanding lives and jobs and still manage to post on a regular basis with maybe a day or two absence.

HHW is my lifeline to the gongs on in the world of show and the world in general.  I have learned about MANY dvd's, cd's, shows, and books that I now own.

Good morning, all! I am currently listening to a commercial recording of Victor Herbert songs with a wonderful orchestra, great tempi, and a soprano whose fast vibrato is driving me up the wall.

Last night was a series of strange and unsettling dreams, provoked by PARANORMAL ACTIVITY I think, although my memory beyond the fear is quite vague now over the whole megillah. I suspect it was all provoked by the Cold-eeze,

At 11:30 I have physical therapy and a trip to Toyland to drop off some things and pick up several others. I'm hoping I feel up to attending the 3:00 seminar in conjunction with Steve Suskin's Broadway orchestration book at the Lincoln Center NYPL.

I discovered this site in late 2003 through a comment by Liz Callaway, whose concert work prompted her to contact me about band parts. I hadn't spoken to BK for several years, and I knew of the events of 2001 only through the perspective of BK's nemesis. Liz mentioned in passing that BK had a website, and I googled it, HHW. That led to my sending him via HHW a Thanksgiving wish. In his response he asked me if I would do an interview about my work, and I believe it showed up on the site in early 2004. I lurked for a while and then decided to jump into the midst of it. I was a faithful poster through my Goodspeed work on WHERE's CHARLEY? I got back to NYC at the beginning of August and my health fell apart, along with a wall of bookcases. I don't think I posted for about six weeks or longer, while I waited on approval for surgery from my HMO, repaired the bookcases, and struggled with crutches. I remember that in September or October of that year I met DRs Ben, Noel, td, and others for the first time, and HHW became not just a chat board but an extended family.

TOD:

I first came to this here website in February, 2004.  I had already met up with BK through his postings on rec.arts.theatre.musicals where we had a shared hatred of a certain a-hole there.  I did a search on "Bruce Kimmel" and. lo & behold, found HainesHisWay.com and then the Community.  It was like a cocktail party with the smartest, wittiest and snazziest people on the internet!  So I crashed it and joined in on the fun.  And while I've had my leave of absences, I alway come back because I wind up missing the people here.  There's really no other group like us out there.

TOD - Just over 5 years ago, on a business trip to NYC I visited with longtime friend DR Elmore.  He kept talking about this website where he was spending a lot of time and sent me the link.  I lurked for a while, until DR JRand posted a photo of someone to identify and I signed up to answer - Nancy Dickerson.  My relationship with both HHW and NYC has flourished and deepened.

The irony about that visit with DR Elmore is that he had another friend in town that week and joked about "juggling 2 women."  The "other woman" was DR Jane!  We finally met, first online and then in person a year later when we were in NYC for DR Jose's famous walking and eating tour:

I think we should all post our first posts.  Here's mine:

Hi, Everybody!  First time posting here. (And, by the looks of things, another ratm'er who's seeking greener pastures.)

I remember watching AIRPORT the first time it was on broadcast TV--on ABC Sunday Night at the Movies.  And it really was an event at our house.  The entire family watched (and I got to stay up past 11:00 pm.)  When the movie ended, it was a mad rush to the bathroom for everyone.  In fact, it was in the newpapers that week that water companies throughout the country reported a significant spike in water usage right at the time the movie ended.  Certainly true at our house.

Also, around the time I got my first VCR (about 1984), AIRPORT '77 was shown on a local channel and split to run on two consequtive nights.  This was a time when broadcasters began tweaking with the running speed of movies they showed so they would fit into a two-hour period.  Well, something obviously went wrong when they decided to slow down the speed of AIRPORT '77, because the voices of all the female characters dropped in pitch about an octive.  The results was that Brenda Vaccaro and Olivia DeHavilland sounded like drag queens.  My roommate and I were literally rolling on the floor.  When his girlfriend came in she thought we were stoned.  I think I still have the last half of the movie on tape somewhere.

Big time Motown fan here.  I grew up with two older sisters during the 60's and that music got filtered down to me.  My sisters were particularly into the Supremes, and I remember that Diana Ross' departure caused as much anxiety as the whole "Paul is dead" deal.  For some reason, my favorite Supremes song was an obscure B side called "Going Down For The Third Time".  I think it may have been because it sounded very much like one of the songs of my other favorite girl group at the time--Josie and the Pussycats (Hey--I was just 10.  I didn't have to have any taste then!)

I sure do. Not for most of my bills; those are done via bank drafts, but for things like quarterly taxes and bills that are apart from the norm (my recent medical bills, for example), I still write checks.

It's still light gray outside, and today is going to be cool with a high of 60. My walk was very invigorating this morning, but when I went out a while ago to put my newspaper in the recycle bin, it felt really cold.

I've told this story so often before. When I read either on the internet or in InTheater magazine that bk had left that infamous record label that shall go nameless, I wondered where he landed because I enjoyed the show tune CDs he was producing. I wrote Ken Mandelbaum asking he he knew anything about bk's whereabouts, and he sent me here.

The board was still using the older text-only format, but it wasn't too long before we switched over, so I came in right at the end of the old forum.

You can blame it on Elmo -- and The Brain -- I met Mr. Lar at The Brain from Planet X premiere at LACC. He stalked and harassed me about joining HHW until I finally gave in that December, and the rest is gratuitous E and T posting history.

Yes, I'm one of those lurking E and T-type HHWayers out there on the fringe of membershipdom, so I won't win any best HHWayer awards, but I am a fan of all of you, nonetheless -- even when I'm not around to show it!

The tentative plans right now are to work on the Disney tins of ZORRO (seasons one and two) today and tomorrow. That is, IF they come in the mail today. If they don't, I'll either do MONSTERS, INC on Blu-ray or if one of the Fox discs comes in (I'm expecting SAY ANYTHING as well as ICE AGE 3), I'll do it.

But I'd really rather not do MONSTERS INC. since it doesn't come out until the 10th, and there are other discs that are either already out or coming out tomorrow.

Though I was mercilessly beaten by around 40 people in signing up on this format, I think I was one of the very first to post on the old Board.  BK himself sent me an invite after the notorious bad incident.  I think I have relayed one of my favorite BK stories, the way we struck up our internet friendship--he had inadvertently posted his name on an RATM post, and I, being the opportunist that I am, had emailed him and he very kindly answered.  Later I discovered that one of my favorite "nobody's heard of them" bands from the 1960's had done a song called Driftin', written by one B. Kimmel.  I emailed Bruce to ask him if he was the writer, and his classic response to me was, "I would never write a song with a missing 'g' at the end."  :)

Re:  Last night's THE AMAZIN' RACE

SPOILER WARNINGS SPOILER WARNINGS SPOILER WARNINGS SPOILER WARNINGS SPOILER WARNINGS

Wow--this has really been a weird season elimination-wise, ain't it?  First we had the Uber Yoga couple, who didn't get to race at all, then Zev and Justin who come in first but lost a passport, then last week a team is gone because one of them wouldn't complete a challenge and then this week with the Poker Gals who couldn't complete a challenge.  Any of these happenstances could have occurred in any of the previous races, but to have them all happen in the same season is just odd.

I did find myself sorry to see the Poker Gals go--they were entertaining and aside from lying about being social workers, they were never really villains.  But we are into the final weeks and teams must go.

My biggest laugh last night was when one of the Globetrotters said "If I never learned any names of the other team members, the one I would know is "BRIAN!"

On February 29, 2004, I posted:

Time to say good night.

It was a satisfying Oscar cast for me.  No major surprises EXCEPT that the best film won everything it was nominated for!  That so SELDOM happens!

Oh, yes.  I do have a comment about the trend to give Oscars to young actresses on their first nominations:

Where are Helen Hunt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Halle Berry and WHAT are they doing that continues their careers down the path toward future Oscar-worthy performances?

Huh?

What?

Nobody Knows?

Harrumph!

It's more than 5 years later....and has anything at all worthwhile come out of any of those actresses?

Good Afternoon!

Thank You for all the kind condolences.  (-I guess that's how one would phrase that?)  I'll be sure to pass those on to Steve later when I talk to him in person - he's been texting me updates throughout the morning. In the meantime, he's been spending time with his father and one of his sisters at the funeral home getting things in order and prepared for the services on Wednesday morning.  I'm not sure I can actually make it down on Wednesday to be there, but I will, at the latest and the least, head down Thursday night and stay for the weekend.  I just need to see how the rest of my week's schedule pans out.

Needless to say, I have yet to be "productive" today, but I think I've had my "quiet" time, and now I can start going through my To Do List.

Once again, Thank You for all your thoughts and prayers for Steve and myself. It really does mean a lot to me.

My very first post to HainesHisWay was the Tuesday after the Oscarcast in March 2004.  I had been posting on rec.arts.movies.music and was being assailed by one individual there who believe he OWNED the site and set the rules for everyone.

Bruce chimed in and put the ass in his place.  He then invited me to come to HainesHisWay and share my opinions there/here.

My very first post:

Okay, first things first:

Tom Cruise -- I don't believe for a second that he and Nicole are still "friends." I DO believe he used all his clout to get that spot on the Oscar show in a lame attempt to upstage Nicole. There was NO value in anything he had to say....who cares about his travels anyway?

Second...Tom Cruise. He does have two kids. Two that were ADOPTED. The Cruise penis did not enter a vagina and procreate.

Third...please! Rosie O'Donnell's instincts are STRONGER than Tom's toothy denials. She doesn't adore him because he's straight. Anyone else sick to DEATH of his smile -- the Cruise grin reminds me sometimes of a smirking skull.

Next...

What in hell could Cameron Diaz have been thinking when she left her house with her hair looking worse than it did when she applied the "Something About Mary" "gel" to it?

Did she pay some sicko hairdresser to do THAT to her hair? Revoke that queen's license! Quick!

Woody Allen WAS the class act of last night's show -- no question about it.

Next was Sidney Poitier -- much eloquence and sincerity.

Robert Redford was pretty darned spiffy, too (and I did not detect one single clue that he's ever had any face work done -- and he DESPERATELY needs some...he'd look SO much better).

Denzel was the class that Halle should have been. Too much "race" talk last night. I've never thought any of it was about race, when it came to acting nominations/awards. Overlook Spike Lee and you're a racist. Overlook Bas Luhrmann and, "Oh, well..."

When the performances are good enough, they get nominated. When the buzz is at its hottest, that's when the votes get cast...whether you're black, white, Australian, English or whatever else.

Dump the entire trend of backless-to-the-butt gowns -- not ONE of the actresses wearing them looked good in them. As one announcer said about Sharon Stone, "She showed us her 'junk in the trunk' and it wasn't very pretty."

I do remember when the new forum came in and all the brouhaha that it brought with it. SOme of us (including me) were thrilled we could post avatars, post pictures, work toward "God" status, etc. Others were upset about the change of format and were annoyed about being taken from their comfort zones.

And remember "karma"? THAT was fun! NOT!

I was one who initially had difficulty being taken from my comfort zone.  I fortunately also had Keith here to move me forward with the new format.

I missed the cute little Karma fairy when she was gone.  I did not miss how she was abused.

I do not miss all the begging for karma...."Oh, I broke a fingernail!  Could I have some karma, PLEASSSSSE!?

That was my idea of "abuse".

Who is that in the photo, right in front of Jason and behind Cilla's shoulder?

I too should have saved the date of my first post.  It was around the 4th day of this site (???)

Very short version:

I suggested DR Penny look Bruce up when she was in L.A.

Once in L.A. Penny called for his phone number which I gave her.

Thinking she might also want his work number, & knowing his work number had changed I went on-line to find the new number and found HHW instead.

On that particular day Bruce happened to mention his interest in meeting a certain child actress.  Since I've known this actress since 4th grade I could not resist commenting. :)

I tried it several years ago, when the doctor first suggested it, and it seemed to work well.  Probably because you sweat the germs out of your body.  I just remembered that the Chinese Restaurant where I used to buy it, is no longer in business.  So, I may settle for buying juice at Safeway, and hope that they have some chicken noodle soup, Hot, in the Deli.

Hi, I'm back.  Just returned from another "fun" trip to LA.

This is my first time posting on the new site and I must admit I'm a bit confused.  I'm on the candy discussion but is there a main location to post?

No candy for me.  This is the first year I have ever missed Halloween.  I feel much better for not having over indulge.  I did miss seeing the children in their costumes.

Did I miss any big news?

And, in just under two weeks, you'll have another anniversary marking 8 years posting to HHW.com.  Here is your first post ever:

Bruce, If you want to get in touch with Susan Gordon, give me a call or write. Keith & I are still good friends with her. I have known Susan since 4th grade.

I'm not referring to the site, of course, this is sleek and fabulously put together, just like our host!!!!

I, too, was on the old board, courtesy of an invitation from BK himself, whom I had communicated with on rec.arts.theatre.musicals and various and sundried emails.

On September 12, 2002, I had an online interview with BK published, which may be accessed here:

The review of the FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL dvd can also be found on that site:

I've also been assisting Steve - via SMS and MMS - with possible travel options for one of his nephews.  He's currently stationed in Aberdeen, MD, and he's waiting to see if his leave will be approved.  Thankfully, Amtrak's Northeast Corridor trains will stop in Aberdeen if requested, and he'll have a direct trip down to Richmond (and back).

The Title of Notes: "Out of the Loop"
The Topic of the Day: "Roll Call"

And here I was:

Well, this will be my first time posting here, so I guess I officially become a lurker now - an upgrade(?) from just a reader. ;-)

My name is Jose C. Simbulan. I am fortunate enough to make my living as a professional musician - pianist/keyboard player/musical director/conductor. I most recently had the honor of playing rehearsals for the Kennedy Center's Sondheim Celebration productions of SWEENEY TODD and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. Upcoming projects include EVITA for a local university, CARMEN JONES at the Kennedy Center, and SOUTH PACIFIC at Arena Stage

I work locally (D.C. and Richmond) and regionally - pick a region, any region. One of my specialties is playing auditions - I LOVE to play auditions. Each Spring and Fall I get to indulge that pleasure by playing for the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) auditions, and the Unified Professional Theatre Auditions (UPTA). There's nothing like playing for 200-300 in one day! -Really, I do like to do this. *I'll be in Charlotte this weekend for the Fall SETCs.

For all you singers out there: Train your pianists!

For all you pianists our there: Train your singers!

I must take this chance to thank BK for all his work on those UNSUNG MUSICALS and LOST IN BOSTON albums. Wonderful material, and they've provided many an opportunity for me to work on my transcription skills as singers have requested material from those albums for auditions, cabarets, etc. *I was always hoping some publishing deal could be worked out in conjunction with those albums... ah, well...

It has been a joy reading everyone's posts - not just today, but for the past couple of months - ever since I first decided to head on over to this site. Hopefully, I'll find myself fully in the loop in no time!

Keep up the great work!

*Oh, and how does one go about bolding and italicizing within the posts?

I hope you will forgive the intrusion of a newcomer, but I only recently stumbled upon this website by accident, while trying to locate an address for Mr. Jerry Herman. I have been doing my best to go through the archives and read all of Bruce’s postings, as well as the responses from all of you, before attempting to put in my two cents worth (the check’s in the mail). As a result, I feel like I know you all a little, which is more than I can say about any of my neighbors in this building that I have lived for two years. What a wonderful mix of topics you all explore: life in New York, Broadway, theater, television, movies, food, language. In other words, you cover everything that life holds dear. Anyway, feel free to tell me to butt out, if I am intruding on a private party.

As for today’s topic, it is interesting that Jason should mention the Titanic, because that was the first thing I thought of when I read the topic. I have always been fascinated with the Titanic, and have read just about everything ever written about it. I even went out to the site of the disaster, back in ’96, when RMS Titanic, Inc. was first attempting to raise the section of the hull. We had a wonderful variety of passengers onboard, including Mr. Buzz Aldren, Ms. Loni Anderson, and one of the last remaining survivors, Mrs. Eleanor Johnson Schuman, who has since passed away. I even flew to New York, several years ago, strictly to see the first preview of "Titanic,The Musical." That night, the preview was full of technical glitches, about a half dozen extra songs, and some God-awful epilogue involving Robert Ballard. But, I knew even then that it was one fantastic show.

Anyway, as much as I would have loved to sit down and shared a jug with Mrs. J.J. Brown (Molly) on that fateful night at sea, I would choose instead, to beam myself onboard the ship, Californian, sitting a few short miles from the Titanic when it hit the iceberg. If nothing else, I would have awakened the ship’s Morse operator, gotten him to turn the spark back on to find out why a ship was firing distress signals in the middle of an empty ocean, and possibly gotten the Captain to save a few hundred additional souls from drowning.

Also interesting that Micheal should mention Lincoln, since the Titanic hit the iceberg on the anniversary of the night Lincoln was shot, and sank on the anniversary of his death.

Whew, sorry I rambled on so. Please, forgive me. I think you are all terrific.

Back from having my blistered & calloused feet treated.  One of my toes was, indeed, infected, so he took care of that and Richard is now at the pharmacy getting my antibiotic.  I suspected as much, because the wear and tear that always occurs in NYC usually clears up within a few days of my return.  This was unusual and I'm glad Richard convinced me that a visit to the podiatrist was in order.

Just in case any other DRs might be interested in going down their own - or even another's - HHW Memory Lane via Google:

Search for:
"haines his way"
"your name" - at least how you "signed" your posts

For myself, I entered: Haines His Way "Jose C. Simbulan" (I was not "JoseSPiano" on the "brown board")

When the search results come up, you'll probably get a lot of them, and/or have to click on "show more results from haineshisway.com"

Since the Notes are archived consecutively, just start looking for the smallest/earliest number in the URLs that come up. They will look like this:
www.haineshisway.com/archives/00000618.html
www.haineshisway.com/archives/00000304.html
www.haineshisway.com/archives/00000600.html

etc., etc., etc.

You can also enter a word or topic that you remember in the search query too.

*There probably is someway to do a search in Google using various parameters to find the earliest mention, but... ???

How do you find out when you first posted at this site?  MY profile says october 21,2003, but that was the first post on this new site.  Is there any way to go back in time farther than this?

First post on this board (as dorky as ever):

Good Lord!  Will there be graduate studies available in HHW posting?  It all looks so wonderful.  If we just had a Joe Allen's and a 7-11, we could all live here forever.  Maybe I shouldn't be trying to figure all this out while I am on Vicadin.

If I could live anywhere, it would have to be Manhattan.  There is no other place like it on earth.

Something from my childhood:  All those damn original baseball and football cards I had  and later threw away.

Thank you, Jose.  Amazing how I manage to get the Titanic in to just about every topic under discussion.

It has been a weird season. There were a couple of things that bugged me about last night's show. I wonder if any of the women could have hit that bell. It bothered me that the men could do it so easily. It seemed very unfair for an all-women team. There should have been a rule about allowing them after a certain time to get help. I was wondering if they both could have banged down together??

It was also weird last night that two teams had so much trouble. I do think the poker players would have been able to do the dance. And if their gay boyfriends had been with them at the dancing thing i think one of them would have helped with the bell.

I thought the poker players were fun. They were not good racers, except that they were quite smart. So they were good at mental tasks. I am not sure if i like miss america and hubby. I do like that she did not give up. But she seems fairly intelligent. How is it that every team could count the bells but her? I was very impressed with her husband. He was very patient and loving with her. I really liked that.

I found HHW in June (I think) of 2002.  I was a fan of BK's on his former label and eventually found this "shimmering, glowing star in the [Internet] firmament." ;)

I found my very first post and it's from July (not June) 2002:

Quote
Hello All,

I know it's late in the evening (do I get a prize for being the last post of the evening?), but this is my very first posting on this website: I am a chronic lurker and parenthetical user (I'm getting professional help). I would like to put in my two cents about the male and female non-theatrical singers...for no other reason than just because. I have been in love with the five singers of The Manhattan Transfer. Tim Hauser, Alan Paul, Janis Siegel (my favorite of the bunch), Laurel Masse (original member, left the group in 1979) and Cheryl Bentyne (in the group since 1979). Individually they each have a wonderful sense of musicianship and style, but put them together and watch out! Incredible singing. That's my two cents.

The CDs that I've been listening to lately: Elaine Stritch At Liberty (love it - listened to it twice in one day) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (like it - twice in one week).

Well, until the next time.

PS. I would like to personally thank Mr. Kimmel (and/or Mr. Bakalor) for knowing how to correctly spell "a lot," (or for at least knowing how to use a spellchecker). A website with which Mr. Kimmel is no longer affiliated, no longer spells it correctly and even the incorrect spellings aren't consistent. I've seen "allot" and "alot" a lot.

I was hoping maybe one of the other teams would have come across the Poker Gals at the Hammer Bell to show them that it can be done without a lot of arm strength.  What they needed to do was let the mallet do the work.  They could have given the mallet a wide enough swing to gain momentum and then hit the striker.  I have seen little kids do this at carnivals.

Miss America and BRIAN! looked to me like they were suffering from exhaustion all day--he with the car, she with the bells, both of them missing the bicycles.  Maybe they didn't get any sleep during the red-eye from Dubai.

HA!  It took some doing, but I finally found my first HHW post, from March 2, 2007:

Hello, there, all-  And thanks for the welcome!

I've been lurking since I discovered you around the time of the Oscar [Wilde] bash...what a great community you've developed here!

I used to post frequently over at Sondheim.com, some years back, and recognize S. Woody from there.

I was wondering if any of you have had a chance to sample the new recording of Flaherty's "Loving Repeating"?  What with all the quick wit and worldplay here [led by the inestimable BK], I would think it would be a natural for many of you.  I enjoyed the score, at any rate, although I guess Gertrude Stein is an acquired taste.

In any case, best regards to all-

Then, on 01/16/2003 (http://www.haineshisway.com/archives/00000440.html) you changed mid-stream/day to "JRand52".

Has anyone here listened to any of the Broadway CARES "Carols for a Cure" CD releases?   Are they a good thing?   I mean, I know the cause is great, but how are the CDs?

I have a couple of the CDs. I like them.

Are they up on iTunes or Amazon so that you can listen to samples from them?

Well the drive for Hot and Sour Soup seemed entirely too long.  The Chicken Noodle Soup in the deli at Safeway was down to the dregs.  I finally drove to KFC for a large mashed potatoes and gravy; which may not be healthy, but is comfort food.

I joined Sept. 19, 2006, (Elmore's birthday!) and I blame Grant Geissman.
Researching how to credit Grant on imdb for our Ociee Nash soundtrack, I saw a mention of TFNM, which caused me to reflect back on that movie and wonder if it was out on DVD. In researching that I found HHW. I read a few of the posts and decided to make a small donation to the site and immediately received a thank you. The people here were so friendly I felt at home.

That was over 10,000 posts ago!

My first one was in response to bk's question about candy bars:

Wow---I feel like I've stumbled into a wonderful alternative universe!

I have to submit my favorite weird candy bar names, which were made by Toms and consumed at the bowling alley when I was a child: "Full Dinner" which was bascially like a Butterfinger, (and where did *that* name come from?) and "Chicken Dinner Jr." which was one I was always afraid to try.

I'm new to this forum thing but will try to paste a picture of Chicken Dinner into this email.

Hello to all!

I forgot to mention that I watched BROTHERS & SISTERS before I headed out to lunch. Tommy was back for a one episode visit. The Luc storyline was ridiculous. The father is remarried and the mom is worried the kids will freak out because she's dating? The logic escapes me.

Kevin and Scotty had unecessary drama with their surrogate.

Uncle Saul catches Ryan rifling through Holly's desk and kind of shrugs it off after the kid feeds him a slick snake oil explanation.

In other words, I found last night's episode pretty infuriating.

"11/02/2002"!! -Happy HHW Anniversary, DR JRand*!!

Yes, DR Jose, I found the same anomalies:

The first Jack Randall Earles reference I found was this one:

And a good friend of mind Jack Randall Earles, also has his first review in the new Scarlet Street (though he hasn't told me what he reviewed--maybe you could enlighten us). JR is another Farmer fanatic (or Franatic, as I term those of us with this particular obsession), and also has a lot of acting credits. Indeed, for those interested in flops, he actually did "Miss Moffat" with Ginger Rogers in Indy.

I, also found that November 2, 2002 “first post” by Jack.

Please note the second post I could find by Jack:

And I, too, noted that he was then using Jrand55.

And by January 2003:

Positively eerie isn't it, Laura?
DVD - Paradise Hawaiian Style with Elvis Presley from 1966. Fun music and beautiful leading lady topography - the other scenery is pretty good too.
CD - Si Ventner with the Johnny Mann Singers Swinging the Big Bands, Miss Nancy Wilson (that woman can sing), Yvette Vickers Sings (sort of).
VHS - Portrait in Black with Lana Turner, Anthony Quinn, Sandra Dee & John Saxon. Exactly how MANY movies about murder could Lana Turner make?
Febroooooooary promises some interesting things for all of us. Won't it be wonderful?

Matt, it was not an outstanding episode of B&S. Balthazar Getty guest starred to remind us all of why we don't miss him. The fact that Saul gave Ryan a pass gave the show an air of science fiction. I do continue to enjoy Patricia Wettig on this show.

Ok, found my very first post: 04/27/2003 01:51 PM PST

The day's notes were titled: CHILLER II

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Michael Barnum and I am a freelance writer and State of Oregon employee. I have been reading your (Bruce's) notes regarding Chiller over the last few days! Wow, what fun! What I would give to have been there! I have attended the Ray Court's show in North Hollywood and I know what fun these conventions can be...and how much money I tend to spend at them!!! Uhg!
I am new to Haineshisway (and what does that mean anyhow? Sounds as though someone was having troubles putting on their knickers! LOL!) and have found that a few pals of mine are regulars around here! So a big hello to my buddy Jack Randall Earles, with whom I share a love of all things Allison Hayes and who has been trying to get me to check out this web-site for some time, and who also never fails to crack me up with his witty e-mails which keep me amused while toiling away at my cubicle at work; and another big hello to lovely, adorable Susan Gordon, the woman I have interviewed, chatted with, and always enjoy hearing from, and who appears in my #1 fave ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE, or simply AOPP.
Thanks for letting me stop by! Bruce, I hope you had a pleasent trip home, and I look forward to finding out more about all of the very interesting people who post here!

Thank you for the compliment, TCB. Good to see you again too, Laura.

Anybody else catch the Audrey Hepburn double-bill here in L.A. over the weekend? They showed Sabrina and Love in the Afternoon, neither of which I'd ever seen before. Interesting that both films paired her up with men who were appreciably older than she was. Bogart was laughably miscast in Sabrina, but it was still a charming movie. I couldn't take seeing her moon over Gary Cooper, though.

In completely unrelated news, I watched the BD of Puccini's IL TRITTICO today.  I must admit I had neither seen nor heard this triptych before and I found it elegant and beautiful.  As silly as this may sound, I think Sondheim and Tunick must have listened to this quite a bit.  There were moments of clarinet and harp that could have come right out of any later Sondheim piece.

Very exciting news - I've known this was a possibility for the last couple of weeks, but the person involved wasn't back in town until yesterday and he agreed to do it today.  So, at midnight tonight we announce our new Kritzerland limited edition CD and the first 100 people to order it at Kritzerland will receive signed copies by the composer - our first time trying this.  It's a really delightful score by a very underrated composer who still has quite a big following.  You'll want to get your orders in pronto.

Hardly any wind today. Yeah!  I biked around the lake for the first time in about 2 weeks (i'd been biking just not there). It was so beautiful!

Nice. :)  I went for an extra long walk in the park today.  My doctor's appointment was canceled, just before I walked in the door) giving me extra time.  It was a perfect beautiful autumn afternoon for the walk.

I felt this way, too.  I don't know how much longer I can keep watching. :P

Our NYC apartment saga continues.  The envelope (provided by DR Julie) in which I sent back the mailbox key was returned to me in today's post.  Seems I'd used the wrong address and zip code.  In my email exchange with our landlady, I learned that the elevator in the building is now operational (as of last Thursday).  She says everyone is thrilled and we'll get one night's rent added to the refund of our deposit  ;D

Good for her.  I was hoping she would do something to compensate for all the stairs you had to walk.

DR MattH i disagree with you re: sarah being careful with introducing luc to her kids.

He's not even really her boyfriend. She is just recently divorced. What should she have done? Moved him into their house right away? It doesn't matter what her ex does. I think that most people in her situation wouldn't even introduce the kids to anyone unless it was a serious relationship. JMO.

What i found unrealistic was the daughter (paige's reaction). I seriously doubt that any little kid is gonna want her mother's boyfriend moving in. And i also found her saying he could stay in the guest room to seem too mature for a kid her age to say.

I agree with you about Gary Cooper & don't care fo Love in the Afternoon at all.  I once read the ending was changed.  I think the original one fit the movie and the Cooper character better.

As for Bogart, originally I wasn't sure about his casting in the role.  With each viewing I changed my opinion & now think he was well casted to play the grumpy serious brother.

So, we can blame DR JRand59 for this abomination against humanity?

DR Jennifer can you tell me if the book has been released in your part of the world, in English.  You might already have it in French.

I mentioned Roxy Olin LAST WEEK when she first appeared and that the Olins were bringing the whole family on board the show (the son is a staff writer already).

I was waiting around hoping the UPS man would bring some Blu-rays from Fox, but he never did, so I went ahead and watched MONSTERS INC. It's colorful and funny, but it has always been my least favorite Pixar movie. This revisit did not change my mind. The animation is superb (especially since they were pioneering things like Sully's fur that had never been done in CG animation before), and there's wit sprinkled all through the movie, but the chase around the factory is just tedious after a while, and the villain (Steve Buschemi) isn't as well defined as villains in some other films.

I went ahead and watched all of the bonus features on the Blu-ray. There are two new bonuses on disc one (haven't looked at disc two yet) plus those two animated shorts and the commentary carried over from the first DVD release. None of these lasted very long.

I really wasn't in the mood for MAD MEN or AS THE WORLD TURNS, so I picked THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT on Blu-ray off the shelf and watched that. I didn't get all the way though because I paused for awhile and watched something else, but I always enjoy revisiting this movie even with the shortened clips, the altered aspect ratios on some movies, etc.

Gosh, thanks, Brett.

Sorry you didn't like my post...sort of.

You charmer, you...not.

 :D

On the other hand, perhaps you believe it was a reaction to your preceding post?  It was posted after I read:

"Poo"? Is that another one of those HD Moods that DR JMK is reviewing?

It's my favorite one.

OH!  We haven't had a "Coprophiliac Joke Day" in a while...

Earlier in the year, actor Matt Battaglia, an HHW favorite, had a Ford F-150 commercial in which his "Super Duty" came out "Super Doody".

That, in essence, is ALL that the comment was about.

As for your disingenuous comment about why you don't post here more frequently, though, there have been occasions when you were here and engaged various people in conversation only to drop out and disappear without saying a word.  No one posted a "Super Doody" then.  Those abrupt departures made some folks rather confused because they thought you were enjoying the conversations.  As you've found out, time and again, they forgive (and possibly forget) and welcome your infrequent returns warmly. That's the kind of people who post here.  They recognize and appreciate your facillity with writing and an inherent charm in your personality.   Alas the luck, I guess it's my lot in life to be the one here for whom it takes only a few posts to be reminded why I don't miss you when you disappear.

I must go to work in the AM - of course since it is Election Day the Vixter and Vixdad have the day off

why I - an upstanding voting citizen have to go to work whole the minor and the foreigner have the whole day off is an irony I have never yet reconciled myself to

I have not had any luck finding my first post but I think it was in November or December of  2004

I stumbled upon the site completely by accident  -In a moment of boredom I had "googled" m self and it so happened that former DR WFO had mentioned me  in a post - and I was linked to it - WFO suggested Iwould like the group of people  here and encouraged me to join.

He was so very right - the nicest group of people on the whole internet

DR vixmom - And it does look like you joined/jumped right in:

LIKE A GAZELLE IN A MOSH PIT - December 3, 2004 (http://www.haineshisway.com/smf/index.php?topic=489.msg79534#msg79534)

"In my CD player, Fairport Convention, "The Rhythm of the Times".  In my VCR. my eleven year old daughter's singing performance her music teacher arranged to be filmed and shown on the local  public access TV channel. In my DVD player, oh lord, Barbie in the Princess & the Pauper!!! (I mentioned the 11 year old daughter did I not?)"

-And if you scroll/jump to Page 2 of those posts, you'll see the DR WFO's acknowledgement of your presence on the board that day.

I'm watching "Castle" right now.

POSSIBLE "CASTLE" SPOILER AHEAD!!!

In the scene in the morgue, Kate is standing in front of a door and in the reflection, you can see a boom mic. ::)

END OF POSSIBLE "CASTLE" SPOILER!!!

*Even A Steady Rain had a drop in business... of -0.1%.  ;)

Average Price $137.01 - sold out performances - for a two-hander!

That is what star power buys you!

Oh  and to answer the questions from yesterday 0  - Mr. Brockman - the Vixter chose  ' Corner of the Sky" as suggested by DR George

I take it you vetoed "Ten Cents a Dance".

Back from rehearsal, which was fine - don't really like these teaching singers songs rehearsals, but I have to be there to make sure the composer and lyricist have implemented all the changes we did.  Tonight, I found about ten percent that hadn't been, so they were.

Ron P. -

I had the pastry chef at the Beer Dinner compare the recipe for HUMMINGBIRD CAKE (http://www.joyofbaking.com/HummingbirdCake.html) to her offering; two differences:

The use of coconut and honey in place of pecans in the icing
The addition of coconut between the layers

She also ignored the comment, "Because this cake is so rich it needs to be served in small slices." We were treated to Southern Hospitality slabs of richness that would make Paula Deen blush.

But oh so good......

And the pairing with Lindeman's Framboise Lambic, a raspberry flavored Belgian beer was great!
