Well, you've read the notes, the notes were merry and marched, and now it is time for you to post until the merry and marching cows come home.

Good morning, all.

Glad to see March here. For some reason, the past three years have flown by, but this past month has felt like three years to me. Don't know why.

Good morning, all! I slept very well, and I will shortly head off to Toyland. I may, after that, drop off some materials to Bruce Pomahac at Rodgers & Hammerstein. That dependson his schedule, which is often insane.

Those are my only real plans for the day. On my way home, I need to visit a hardware store and a market.

DVD (rental): MADELAINE - Something of a disregarded film from David Lean which I’d not seen before. An interesting story but the film is directed in surprisingly pedestrian style by Lean.

Blu-ray: THE DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE - I have this on DVD amongst a Luis Bunuel box set. I’m always cautious about upgrading a DVD to HD because (apart from the fact that I’d be broke if I upgraded all my DVDs!) I don’t think the difference in picture quality in many cases is worth the upgrade – at least not on my 47” screen. In this case I’m pleased to say that the difference in picture quality is well worth it.

Blu-ray: LES MISERABLES – From Olive Films this is the 1958 French film with Jean Gabin. A largely forgotten film which I’m pleased to have the chance to see –  and with the original French dialogue. I’ve only had a brief look so far but the picture quality of this big-budget, over three hour, epic production filmed in Technirama is magnificent.

Friday morning greetings!  I, too, slept better last night and woke up quite refreshed a little after 7.  Today I'm going to continue my Momcave clean-up and maybe try to take a walk around the basement.  Haven't done any exercising since we got back from England 6 weeks ago.  For about 4 of those weeks, it was all I could do to breathe!

And that's after staying awake watching THE LION IN WINTER on TCM.  And what a pleasure it was, after having not seen it for a couple of decades.  I remember how crazy I was about it when it came out -- going to see it repeatedly at the theater.

I, on the other hand, didn't sleep so well and for some reason, I don't know why, I was up at 3:30. I resigned myself to it, made the oatmeal, cranberries, pecans and cinnamon and coffee and I've now been up since then. I may crash early this evening.

Larry, hope the JQ CD sounds good!

My 18 year old nephew from Minnesota is coming for a visit. He will be here on Sunday and leaves Friday late morning. We are prepped and ready. He loves Phantom so we are seeing that show and then whatever else happens. If the weather is nice we will walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. We will probably take the Staten Island Ferry so he can see the Statue of Liberty (instead of going to Liberty Island). The Ferry is the easiest way to see the SOL. You don't have to pay for the trip to Liberty Island and wait in lines. We have done this for many guests and they enjoy the relaxing boat ride and the view of the Statue. We will tour Times Square, our neighborhood and other areas. We will probably also go to the

Forbes Galleries (http://www.forbesgalleries.com/)

as well. It's in our neighborhood. It's a small, free museum featuring the eclectic collections of Malcolm Forbes, including toy soldiers, Faberge eggs, autographs and other ephemera. It's a wonderful space and it's not well known so it's rarely crowded.

DR CILLA LIZ - I thought the final day of cross examination was good - with lots of fake crying and peeking through the fingers to see if  anyone was buying it by the killer on the stand.

There was a poll on Jane Velez-Mitchell that said only 6% believe her version of events....but some talking head said that's all it takes....anything less than the death penalty is a loss for Martinez.

And some DUMB woman called in to say....well, I am that one juror you hate - because I believe her....if it was premeditated, she would have killed him as soon as she got to the house.

I hope that there is no one on the jury like that....who has some idea fixed in his/her head and will not even listen to forensic or other evidence....that could be a key to her getting manslaughter or a lesser charge.

UGH!

BluRay - Atlas Shrugged Part Two.  I enjoyed it very much....cast change didn't much bother me.  But Francisco D'Anconia was played by Esai Morales in the most laid-back, low-key manner that really was NOT like the character at all.  And of course there was another reference to the necklace/bracelet exchange.....which in the book was a bracelet/bracelet exchange.  And I still can't figure out why that change was made.....

CD - soundtrack BREAKFAST ON PLUTO.

DR JRAND - re Arias trial

I thought it was a good day yesterday.  I thought Juan had just the right tone all day, especially as she started breaking down.  He wasn't attacking but he wasn't backing off either.  It was appropriate, tough and effective.  He simply confronted her with what she did over and over and over.  I liked when she wouldn't look at the photo and he said "Ma'am, you agree that you did this, right" Jodi "yes" Juan "Then look at the photo and tell me where you were"

I don't pay much attention to what the people say on TV, but I do listen to it.  Most of them don't have a clue how a jury trial really works.

First of all, you won't be on this jury unless you are death qualified, which means you are willing to impose the death penatly if the evidence warrants it. That's a big part of jury selection in a death case and many people are disqualified for that reason.   Secondly, life behind bars is still a win for Juan.  It's also a win for the defense, but really not a win for Jodi.   I heard her "friend" who visits her all the time say Jodi thinks there will be a mistrial because the jurors won't agree and then she'll get manslaughter in the next trial and get 5 years time served and go home.   That's insane but it sounds like Jodi.

If it was premeditated before she went to Arizona, she still had to wait until the roommates were gone (she knew they were home when she arrived),  and she had to wait until he was in a position that he couldn't defend himself very well - naked in the shower with the wet tile floor under him.   She loved sex with Travis, so it isn't a surprise she'd do that too.  Maybe she was giving him one last chance to decide he never wanted anyone but her, but he didn't say that so she killed him. They only need one minute of premeditation (well any small amount of time) for it to be premeditated.  She could have gone there without the plan to kill him and decided right before she did it and it's still premeditated murder.   The jury will be instructed on all of that.

In my experience, jurors take their duty very seriously.  They are deciding the fate of another human being. While they are instructed to simply apply the facts to the law, there is a lot more that goes into it. In this case they have graphic evidence of what Jodi admittedly did to Travis and his family has been sitting in the front row every single day. The have photos of the 29 stab wounds, slit throat and shot to the head.   That's not self defense. That's making sure he's dead. Overkill can also be someone who suddenly snaps and goes nuts, but that's not her defense, she's claiming self defense.  There are specific critera that must be met to establish you are justified in defending yourself.  The jury will also get instructions on that.

I believe this is too gruesome not to get a murder conviction because she admits doing it (which distinguishes her from OJ and Casey Anthony) AND she admits she did everything she could to cover her tracks after the murder with the express intention of getting away with it.  You don't need to do that if you were defending yourself.   I could go on and on, but I'll stop there.   I'm curious to see what the defense expert says and how Juan crosses her

One other thought.  Jodi doesn't show remorse for killing Travis.  Jodi shows remorse for getting caught.

The market trip was aborted because I had to get home and use the john.  I blame this on the fact that I waited in the cold for 25 minutes for a damned No 7 bus today. I mentioned the Blu-ray of "The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie" earlier and I just noticed that as well as the original French language track it also inludes an English language dubbed version. I saw the film in French when it had its originally theatrical release and never even knew that there was a dubbed version. I watched a few minutes of it to check it out and it's one of the most inept examples of dubbing I've ever heard. Hardly any attempt is made to match the voices to the actors mouth movements - dialogue is often heard when actors aren't moving their lips and conversely lips move with no sound coming from them - an awful way to watch the film.

I received a message this morning that I got third place in the Oscar contest at the local movie theater!   I didn't think I did that well, lol.  So I get a $20 gift certificate.  That means I've been in the top 3 for the past 3 years.  That's cool

Congrats, Cillaliz!  Maybe next year you can tell us your choices and we can enter contests and win, too! ;)

Excellent idea.  Share the Oscar wealth

Maybe it is the K. Gordon Murray version!  ;D

Picked up a couple of packages, now I'll shower and then it's rehearsal.  I am so full of liquid right now - it's gross to eat an entire bowl of matzo ball soup, but I did - and I feel better for it, save for the bloated part.

I saw the dubbed version first. I didn't know who was speaking half the time. It was laughable.

BTW, thanks for the heads-up on the Jean Gabin Les Miz. I'm going to look for that version.

We did not like THE THIRD MAN and I found the music extremely annoying.
Was it the first time you saw the movie? I didn't care for it the first time, either, but I've grown to love it over the years.

I might have seen it when I was young but I didn't remember the story.  I assure you I plan to never, ever watch it again.  This afternoon I mentioned to Keith again how disappointed I was in the movie and he commented how much he disliked the music.  To me the purpose of the last scene was to be artsy but it wasn't logical.  It could have been both with one slight change.

Quiet today.

DR JANE I have never been able to watch THE THIRD MAN all the way through.....but I think we are in the minority.  The only score that irritates me more is the lone harmonica score for DONDI.....

LOL, IMHO you made a wise decision to stop viewing.   Funny was Osborne telling us before we watched how beautiful the score was.

If we are in the minority I'm glad Keith & I agree on this one.

The actress on Facebook who has twice told us all she was leaving Facebook, but who never leaves, has now announced she's back and anyone who doesn't like it can unfriend her.  What is with these needy people?  Go if you're going to go, stay if you're going to stay, but these immature games only make people look really foolish.  I have to bite my tongue not to respond, although I may.

The saga of the actress on FB is funny.  I've had friends say they are taking a break & do so.  I've know others to deactivate their account, without prior comment, then return months later.  I've not had anyone who made a big deal about it.

The first time I went to New York (I was 18), I was warned that I would be disappointed if I went out to Liberty Island.  Naturally, i didn't listen; and I was disappointed to see how small the Statue of Liberty is compared to what I had imagiined.  Later, when I was living in New Jersey and guests would visit; I would warn them, but they wouldn't listen.  The Staten Island Ferry is a much better option.

I usually predict the obvious.  I think I may have guessed Ang Lee for directing and Django for script.  The tie breaker was # of awards for Lincoln.  I have no idea what I guessed on that.  I didn't put much thought into it this year.   I've discovered that many people try to be tricky and think they'll pick one of the long shots and win it all.  There really aren't that many surprises by the time you get to the show

Hi all,

I hope that everyone is doing well.

I just wanted to let you all know that the sink hole your hearing about is within about 5 miles of me  but the dogs and I are fine.

The tornado that hit in downtown Tampa this week was close to where I work.  I could have seen it out of the office window but didn't know about it  until I got home from work.

Hard to believe it was a year ago to day that I was on the AC show.  I posted on AC's show Facebook page that it's been a year and I have no photos to share because nothing has been done.  I think that Angies List had good intentions but just didn't have the money or manpower to really do anything.  I can't understand for the life of me why they would go on national TV and say they were going to help someone and then not do it.  I can kind of understand about the room for washer and drier but when I went on the show the focus was the kitchen.  It doesn't make sense that they didn't have a plan in place to at least do that.

Work is wonderful again.  I'm finely away from that horrible boss.  It's so nice to be in with a group of humans who laugh and talk to one another.  The day goes by so fast--and we still get our work done.  Wonderful sigh~

DR Laura, when the media got intereted in Jodi Arias, she said it was two people who broke into the house, killed Travis and she escaped with her life but didn't kill him.  It was much more interesting then.  That was the 48 hours story and the Inside Edition story.  Then she won Sheriff Joe's Jail House Idol.  It wasn't until fairly recently that her defense changed to self defense. By then they were all following the story.  That's my best guess.  Now she's a fascinating sociopath

Thanks.  I know--it was really hard over Christmas when I had people asking me how I was enjoying the new kitchen and W/D and when I said I never got either that they felt so sorry for me because I got used.  I had one guy that stopped by my desk every day and asked if Angie's List had started on my house yet.  It was funny at first (I kept saying soon) and then as the year went by it stopped being funny.  Then the AC jokes started about how he's a reporter that couldn't follow up on a story from his own show.

It's gotten to point where I'm just embarrassed.  I feel like such a fool and I've run out of excuses for why nothing started.  I can only agree with what  everyone else says about it.  Turner got what he wanted (my money), Angies List got the publicity and the AC show got a feel good moment for their show.  If Frigidare hadn't come though with the money, I wouldn't have gotten a thing out of it.  And even then it wasn't what I was told.

They said they would pay the taxes on the  money but when I had my takes done the other night, it turns out they didn't.  If I didn't claim zero and have ten dollars out of each check, I would have been hung with an unexpected two thousand dollar tax bill.  As it is my total return is twelve dollars.

Danise, you have nothing to be embarrassed about.  They should make it right.  Maybe you need a lawyer to help you. I'm actually serious about that.

I don't think one would help, you know they make you sign those papers before you go on the show that they aren't responsible, etc.  I just feel like people should know that what you are promised on tv doesn't always happen.  It really does make me wonder when you see a story like mine and there's at big "moment" where the person is told they are going to get help if it really happens.  Unless they do a follow up, how would you know and you think the world of the people that made the promise.  Isn't that company/tv show  wonderful for helping that person?  But did they?

How many times does something like this happen?

I forgot that's where you are, DR Laura.  There is a big Sci Fi con that is going to have many of the Babylon 5 cast there in May.  I was kicking around the idea of going until the tax thing happened.

I will take pictures if it does snow.  They said it wouldn't stay but we'll see.  I'm glad it will be on a Sunday when most people can stay home.  I do remember hearing about all the accidents when it happened the last time back in the '70's.

Yeah i heard the show is cancelled. If he isn't interested then ask him to find you a producer higher up than he is who might be interested. Explain what was promised to you. And that nothing has happened.

I received a message this morning that I got third place in the Oscar contest at the local movie theater!   I didn't think I did that well, lol.  So I get a $20 gift certificate.  That means I've been in the top 3 for the past 3 years.  That's cool

Pretty good!  Congratulations!

$20 is still good!

We have some interesting movie specials here.  On cereal boxes there are coupons for free movie tickets in feb, or 2 for 1 for march-may. This is pretty good because tuesdays are $5.99. So you can do 2 for that price.

And the taco boxes have free movie snacks coupons.

Are taco boxes similar to the taco shells we use in America?   ;)

I stil keep praying that something good will happen.

Was it the first time you saw the movie? I didn't care for it the first time, either, but I've grown to love it over the years.

I think it's one of the all time greats.

I have been sneezing all day - my eyes are itching and now my poor nose is raw - no idea why- I was fine when I went to sleep
Can you take a benedryl and just let it knock you out? That's what I'm getting ready to do.

I may just do that -

Wow!  Everybody left.  They probably all ran down to their neighborhood Red Box to see if they could rent ATHENA.

Danise, Congrats on the new job!!
