Vibes for DD Dylan!!!
the number of inches forcast is less
I liked the LIVE The Sound of Music last night. The lighting and sound were a bit off....and Audra MacDonald made some scary faces while she sang CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN - but maybe that's her idea of acting.
AND the guy playing a small role...The Admiral....totally went up on his lines near the end of the show.....
If you like the show.....you'll like the broadcast, it's just a different version of the musical....Carrie can't act - where was her help in this area.... And three of the Von Trapp girls got hit with an ugly stick.....
But it was very fun to watch.
Also, I think all of the children did very well, and all the girls were darling!

Good news!
At least on the route that I traveled, driving across the country with the Dear Dog, who was a mighty good sport about the whole thing, the farms in Wisconsin were the most picturesque - at least, that I saw.
When I step on it, my doctor's scale screams, "One at a time, please. There's no value to me weighing two of you at once."
It's 5 a.m. - and I'm up early.
Dylan's awaiting some surgery today. it's strange not having him looking for breakfast when I'm up early.
I didn't see THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Hell, it took me 15-20 years to see Julie Andrews in it. I can't say it is must-see TV for me. But I am amazed by the facebook furor over it. I've seen things like "how dare she even try to emulate Julie Andrews" or "the film was perfect, this shouldn't have been done." What a load of pretentious umbrage! Films are remade; plays are re-staged all the time. If someone thought a specific version of something was "perfect", then they shouldn't watch something that can only diminish their memory or enjoyment of that version. And if one watched last night only to sneer or complain about it, what a paltry motive to watch anything and what a waste of their evening.

Sounds like the ratings for Sound of Music were quite stellar, and with so little promotion.

You mean the only one plug per five minutes of air time, as opposed to a possible five?
Thanks for those patented HHW vibes.
Just got a call from the vet, that they got all that was wrong,. and he is doing fine.
For the most part, I enjoyed THE SOUND OF MUSIC broadcast. Carrie was sweet, the vampire guy much better than I had hoped, and Frau Schneider and Max were delightful. The one exception for me was Rolf. I understand the actor was only in his mid-twenties, but he looked more like a pedophile than a boyfriend.
And it drove me crazy trying to figure out why I recognized the actress who was playing Frau Schmidt. Finally, after it was over, I realized that she does a lot of the PBS Pledge Breaks at the National Level, that are then inserted into our local pledge drives.
I am curious why they did not want Broadway actors to play the kids. I'm not sure how much experience the kids they chose had. But really having them perform on live tv should not really be tried by novices.
Businesses are closing all around us due to the weather and events are being cancelled left and right. It's snowing pretty heavily now.
I just realized that I am only several hours away from going back to the theater to try to live up to the hype.

Have you got all the creature comforts needed for a storm?
In a large saucepan over medium heat, add the oil and sear the beef. After two minutes, add the garlic, onion, carrots, celery, and bay leaves. Season with salt and pepper. When the meat is browned and the onion is tender , dust with flour.
Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring often. Pour in the beef broth and cook for 2 minutes until the mixture starts to thicken. Add the tomatoes and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and taste for seasonings.
Transfer to a 9x13 casserole. Spread the mashed potatoes on top and dab with butter if desired. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. Serve warm.

Yes, we're fine, DR TCB. We went to the grocery yesterday and I'm about to put one of Richard's favorite dinners in the oven - chicken and rice.
What's equally funny about my little Facebook post is how many instantly misunderstood its point, which, to my mind, was very simple: No way to win no matter which way your wind is blowing, and believe me there was and is plenty of wind blowing on this topic over there.
And the word of the day is: HIBERNACULUM!

Well, I did manage to watch the broadcast eventually, and I also pretty much stayed out of the FB fray. I did comment that, before watching it, I thought it might be fun to have cast Nathan Lane as the Mother Abbess. :D
And my favorite comment under a friend's post was someone who seriously referred to another R&H show, Oklahoma, and their favorite song - "Siri with a Fringe on Top". Yep, not surrey, Siri. Good lord. :P

My writing partner and I got an invite to do a piece for Texas Monthly. Haven't been in that mag before. It's due before the BBQ book but it's short. Hopefully we can do it.
Good morning, all.
I guess I'm not friends on facebook with enough show queens or I've been able to ignore their comments most effectively.
If they cancel ZZ Top, perhaps they can get Carrot Top instead.
You'll be swell, you'll be great, DR TCB!

It actually snowed here overnight! Fortunately, it was a very light dusting that was completely melted off my car by the time I left for work. ;)
And finally, I will confess that when the children were singing "The Sound of Music" and the Captain finally starts to sing - I cried. And I got rather misty on the final "Climb Every Mountain." And as a former Rolf, I am grateful that he didn't rat them out like in the movie.

There was a threat earlier today of canceling ZZ Top at the company Christmas party tomorrow night, but the party seems to be happening.

26,000 employees worldwide, about 15,000-16,000 of them here in San Antonio. They're expecting anywhere from 20,000 to 24,000 to show up since you can take someone with you.

Yep, in the stage version, Rolf comes thru in a pinch and says there is no one in the garden. It is was the least he could do for Liesel.

I love oysters.... pan fried, even deep fried, but I have never developed a taste for raw oysters. And most of the people around here at the oyster bars seem to swallow them whole, so what is the point?

Asian noodle dishes.
Here's a testament for last night's broadcast: Richard had told me earlier in the week that he'd watch until 10pm and then go to my Momcave to watch ELEMENTARY. He found the production compelling enough to stay 'till the end. Now he has to find a way to see ELEMENTARY.

DR Ginny how come you guys don't have some sort of recording device (DVR, PVR...)?
I never watch tv live. Even when I watch TAR or Survivor I always record them and start 10 or 15 minutes later. I cannot even imagine having to watch shows exactly when they are on. Just curious (I think DR Vixmom also does not have a recording device?).

DR Ginny do you remember if they took a chest x-ray when you had your emergency trip to the hospital for your heart attack?
I'm curious since we were reading that John Ritter's wife sued the doctor who didn't order an x-ray and therefore misdiagnosed his aortic dissection as a heart attack.
Oy. I have been sort of klutzy this week. I'm not sure how but i have like 3 cuts on my hands and i have no idea where i got them. Well tonight while taking out a piece of tin foil my index finger rubbed against the grated part. It was bleeding. :(
So now i am trying to type but it is hard because my index finger is bandaged.

Wear a hat, wear a scarf, wear long underwear, wear a coat, wear mittens, cover every inch of skin you can cover. I did that today and the one little strip between my scarf and hat where my eyes were looking out and my forehead felt like it was burning. It was probably -15 to -20 windchill I felt it
It's been fairly slow at the office lately so, we discussed it today and for the first time we're closing for a week at Christmas. With the holiday on Wednesday, it's going to be very difficult to get work done that week, so what the heck. Edith was very excited about it.
It's -5 air temp right now not counting the windchill. I've moved from my usual spot in the living room, which is one of the coldest spots in the house - to the room I'm 1/2 way through remodeling. It's a lot warmer up here. It's Callie's room, so she likes that we gather here.

I'm lucky to have her. With the cash flow not sure there's going to be enough for a raise next year, but she said she'd rather have the extra week of pd vacation. I can do that
The show was great tonight - wonderfully receptive crowd (about thirty-two, which out of forty seats is almost a sellout). I beat it out of there pretty quickly after talking to a few folks. Too much going on to hang out for long.
