And the word of the day is: OEILLADE!
Happy New Year, everyone!
The last 30 or so New Year's Eves have been spent at a soup potluck at the church. Good clean soupy fun.
What does that mean -- cancerous but benign?I'm not the doctor. I just know I didn't have to do anything after it was removed. No chemo, no radiation.
I do remember one New Year's Eve that I'd rather forget. I woke up at about 4:30 on Dec. 31, 2010, with grotesque pain. Drove myself to the ER. I knew it was a kidney stone.
It turned out to be three humungous kidney stones. While they were looking at the CAT scan, they noticed a mass on the other kidney, so they kept me overnight. I spent that New Year's watching Saturday Night Fever, a movie I had never seen before, from an uncomfortable and fairly cold hospital bed.
Many of you remember all of this. The lump was cancerous, but mercifully benign. Still, I'm glad I woke up this morning after eight hours of peaceful sleep.
What does that mean -- cancerous but benign?
Seeing how both DR Sandra and Mae-Ling are now vegetarians, I will be making vegetable soup for tonight.
By the way, Elan ..I am sure I speak for all of us here when I say that I think the best way to ring out the old year is with an updated photos of your heirs. Please.
And the word of the day is: OEILLADE!
I think that I might be getting a cold. My nose won't stop running!
Maybe your nose has a new exercise regime?
Good Morning All:
First of all I would like to thank TCB for the hug he sent me via Kevin's message. I am sorry I am so late. I was so touched that you thought of me.
I hope you have a most Blessed and healthy New year TCB and everyone else!
Thank, Elan. What a beautiful family you have!
Does anyone recall Kaye Ballard doing a medley of Oscar-winning songs and at one point breaking into a chorus of SHAFT?
It was something like that, and I can't find a video on YouTube.

Amen to that, so glad they caught it when they caught it.

Seeing how both DR Sandra and Mae-Ling are now vegetarians, I will be making vegetable soup for tonight. With matzo balls.
They caught it early. What a blessing!
I was wondering what are ANY DR"S favorite MOVIES AND WHY???
Seeing how both DR Sandra and Mae-Ling are now vegetarians, I will be making vegetable soup for tonight. With matzo balls.oh! You could make what I'm taking to the party tonight, it's a vegetable pizza appetizer. You take crescent roll dough and spread it on a cookie sheet and bake it. Then you mix cream cheese and dry ranch dressing mix and spread it on the cooled crust. Then you spread chopped red and yellow bell peppers, green onions, carrots and broccoli on top. You chill for an hour and viola! My sister in law made it at Christmas and it was totally addicting

Hi Ginko!
I could not figure this out. "I'm going to" was what I was typing and this site's goddam spellcheck redid my mistyping and I completely missed it. I type so badly that I try to catch these things. Is there a way to turn the spellcheck off?

I was really thinking of the little gecko not ginko, but it made me chuckle so I had to point it out. I knew at you were trying to say
I suspect the Spellcheck on DR vixmm's computer committed suicide years ago.

My friends Cathie and Alice got married today. The news was an unexpected surprise this morning - I was actually surprised they had waited so long! - and I am very happy for them.

and a recent shot of my youngest.

not only that but all the bank closer I was dealing with this week kindly sent out all their packages early so not only did I leave early but all my closing packages for Thursday and Friday are already done :)
A lovely way to end the work year!
I was wondering what are ANY DR"S favorite MOVIES AND WHY???
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (the original version, not the Directors Cut or the Special Edition) It had just enough magic, and laughter, and awe to make it like no other film I had ever seen.

I hope he likes it
I wonder what Kaye Ballard is doing on New Year's Eve.
I'd love to TCB. I thought I bought enough to take a batch and have a second one, but it turns out that I had to do a double batch to make it the size I wanted, so, alas! I don't have enough to bring one to you on the way to the party

Are you sure that the crescent roll dough is vegetarian?? I recently got some Pillsbury pie crust (just unroll it into a pie pan) and it has partially hydrogenated lard. And some (formerly) Hostess products use(d) lard in their cream fillings.
It all tastes good, though. ;)

Cillaliz--DR Kate made this to take to our nephew's on Christmas Eve! There was a slight variation in the toppings, though. I know she included green olives and cauliflower. Yes, it is addicting!
Actually, I just looked up Pillsbury crescent rolls and they use vegetable oils...it has hydrogenated oils, but not lard.
I was wondering what are ANY DR"S favorite MOVIES AND WHY???
I'll mention three, all of which involving dancing.
--The original Japanese Shall We Dance (not the lame American remake), because it showed someone following the passion of his life
--The Band Wagon, because dancing doesn't get any better on screen than Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse "Dancing in the Dark"
Dr Jane was speaking to us from the future - I wonder how she is enjoying 2014
And then got this note via LinkedIn - getting these kinds of notes are so special to me:
"Hi Bruce. I don't know if you'll ever see this but I felt compelled to reach out after seeing The Glass Menagerie on Broadway yesterday. how I remembered your name is just another of the mysterious tricks of memory. But seeing this marvelous production immediately took me back to the "Hami" (no pun intended) High production of 1965? '66? in which you I think played Tom. It was probably the first classic American play I had ever seen and I was transfixed. I thought you were "brilliant" and that enconter led me to a passionate relationship with "The Theater"! I just wanted to thank you for sending me off on one of he most eniching journeys of my life. Sorry for the cliche-ridden post but it's all true!!"
I wonder if Jane remembers this gal? She goes by the name of Belinda Presser, but that may be a married last name.

I have the Blu-ray (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VECACG/) where you can choose to watch each of the three different versions without having to change discs. This poster that comes in the set shows the differences:

I have way too much stuff to do before 2013 ends.
Yesterday, Queen Elizabeth II named Angela Lansbury as a DBE - Dame of the British Empire. :)

What does that mean -- cancerous but benign?
In common usage (i.e., everyone but really pedantic oncologists), it means that you've got an abnormal but contained mass of cells growing someplace, as opposed to a malignant growth that can invade neighboring cells and directly disrupt organ function. Technically speaking, doctors only classify the malignant types as "cancerous" growths. (cue my parents' wailing "see? You could've been a doctor after all!")

I'll be sure and buy that version.
I have nothing of interest to say that is gossipy.
I have several DVD's from the Library.
They are:
THE WEIGHT OF WATER
MR BROOKS
UNDER SUSPICION
THE TERMINAL
WONDER BOYS
THIS IS THE END
THE ARTIST
MALICE
THE JANE AUSTINE BOOK CLUB ( I have already seen it but want to see again)
MILDRED PIERCE (The HBO one with Kate Winslet)
Have any DR's seen any of these movies and read this book?

I was impressed with both the original and the remake of MILDRED PIERCE. It's no surprise that I liked the original, but I wasn't at all sure I'd like the remake. It's quite a different film from the original, but a good one in its own way.
I'll be back later for the partay. Being a NYE grinch, that is.
Thanks to all my HHHW DR'S INPUT on my requests for recommended movies.
Apparently many of you reallyenjoyed the Artist.
DR M. Barnum, I did see CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE THIRD KIND and enjoyed it also.

And E & T DR Jason is now settled in (I assume) in Seattle for the next week along with the cast and crew of VELVEETA.
I'm going to watch the Maggie Smith-Michael Gambon film QUARTET tonight. I missed it in the theatre this year and I've been wanting to see it.

I think you'll enjoy it, TCB! Look for my friend Michael from Greece during Happy Days Are Here Again. There's a closeup of him with tears down his face and then of him singing along with Barbra. And my friend Robin is at the very very end holding up her sign "Thank You Barbra, We (Heart) You!'
Only two hours to go here on the East Coast, folks!

Page ten has been ordered. I think the waitstaff is backed up.
Well, I seem to have picked up an unwelcome New Year's Eve friend in my Chrome browser: an extension called RanDeomePrice that keeps reenabling or regenerating itself and causing little price deal pop-ups or slide-ins to appear on certain web pages such as Amazon, and extra little links to appear on Google search results. Isn't that sweet? And such a nice way to bring in the New year?
In my experience, such as with the thing that causes random words and phrases to become links, the only solution is to wipe out and reinstall Chrome.
Oy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EAST COAST DEAR READERS!!!
if I hurry I may be able to get to 26666 before 2014
I'm ready for bed, but I doubt I'll sleep. Too many fireworks going off all around me.
George is really going to make me do this all by myself.
Right now, they're talking about a building in Chicago that's 10 stories tall and was quite the achievement for its time.
I hear fireworks, but it's a bit early.
That's a truly beautiful way to send out 2013 and welcome 2014.
Yes, we shut down in mid-January for ten days and reopen on February 1 in the larger space and play till the end of that month.
We know that Bruce will be starting his new book tomorrow. George, will you be going to your parents' house?
We know that Bruce will be starting his new book tomorrow. George, will you be going to your parents' house?
Yes...for dinner tonight, I had parmesan chicken with fettuccine alfredo. I have some left over and will bring that to my parents' house and have it there. It was just too much for one sitting, but too good to not take home :)
