TOD:
A couple of them come to mind. I think the first was 1974/75. Nothing too unusual about it, but I always looked back on it as being my first "quiet" but excellent NYE spent in the company of close friends, safe at home in their Brentwood apartment (on Sunset Blvd.) that I greatly envied. Three bedrooms, den, etc., and I believe it was costing them all of $375 per month. But it was the company, the well-planned food, the conversation, the comfortable overnight stay, and a wonderful brunch the following day that made it just perfect.
The second would be 1979/80, on those same friends' 51-foot sailboat moored at Cozumel. We did our share of partaking of whatever was going on in town, then saw the New Year in on the privacy of our own deck out in the harbor. Completely enchanting.
