Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the Ruth's Chris Effect, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they feel the less said about Ruth's Chris and its effect, the better.
-
And the word of the day is: CONTESTATION!
-
Last night, my sister e-mailed me, asking if I would buy something from Amazon for her and I said no problem. Since her order has free shipping, I decided to order a couple of CDs for myself. I ordered Nice Fighting You: A 30th Anniversary Celebration (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JPWSJOI/) and the original Broadway cast recording to Violet (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JDCORSC/) with Sutton Foster. "Violet" includes AutoRip, so I'm listening to it now as it's downloading.
-
The genre in iTunes is "soundtrack." :P
-
But not any more. ;D
-
Well, it's time for bed. I checked and I actually need to work concessions starting at 10:30 am, not 11:00 am! I don't like to do things early on the weekends, but they needed someone and the shift ends early enough so that I won't miss The Tony Awards!
Good night, all!
-
good morning to all
-
not sure if i will be able to make the tony award bash.
but i am going to DVR it and try to catch up later and hopefully make it before the end
-
BTW
Are the TONY AWARDS tape delayed to the WEST COAST?
-
Off to church, where they are dedicating and blessing a new Steinway 7 foot piano (well, new to the church, but not brand new - brand new costs about $94,000!). Also, to shake things up for Pentecost, it will be a jazz service, including flute, bass, drums, and piano performing the Claude Bolling suite.
-
BTW
Are the TONY AWARDS tape delayed to the WEST COAST?
Yes, they are, DR Mike. That's why bk wants the DRs to come to a decision about spoilers. In the past, those of us on the right side of the country have posted without naming names, so that those on the left side aren't spoiled. If you're pretty current on Broadway, though, I think you would know who won anyway from the posts. I'm happy with either way.
-
Great Picture from yesterday. And Congrats!!!

But I think the outfit cried out for some pearls.

Good morning, all! I will shortly head down to Toyland. I've got a libretto to scan for Ben Davis, and I'd like to scan as much of JUBILEE Act One possible.
DR slingshot, good news about Zach! I'll ask for Mikey: how's the vet?
DR vixmom, you are always a prizewinner in my book!
DR Laura, we must be clear about Porgy and Bess: there is the original 1934 folk opera composed by George Gershwin to a libretto by Dubose Heyward and additional lyrics by Ira Gershwin; in 1942 or so, producer Cheryl Crawford stage a production that converted much of the recitative to spoken dialogue, which to me violates one of piece's major conceits, and this became the standard text of all productions until the 1970s when the work started to get performances of what actually exists in the published vocal score, and since then the work has been established as the opera that George Gershwin actually composed; then, early in this decade, the Gershwin estate, in what I believe was an attempt to extend the copyright, decided Porgy and Bess needed to be saved and turned into a musical theatre piece. Who cares what George, Ira or Dubose would think of the of this idea: they can't complain; THEY'RE ALL DEAD!. So the graverobbers dug up the body and cut it apart. The first attempt in England, staged by Trevor Nunn, was not a success, so Diane Paulus and her team have produced a new musical theatre piece, with arrangements and musical diversions from a moron and a more politically correct text. And yes, I am offended, since this garbage now touring as "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess" is a travesty of a masterpiece. As for the original work that premiered in 1935, it's brilliant and I admire it enormously.
I believe that is all of my news for the moment.
-
Good morning!
-
Good morning, all.
While BK was suffering from Ruth's Chris Effect, I was combating Carnival Food Effect. I am pretty sure BK got the better deal.
-
Excellent post re Porgy and Bess, Mr. DR Elmore, sir.
-
As it stands now, I won't be watching the Tonys where I can also be online. If I can change that, I will.
-
Had plenty of sleep, but I awoke to the sound of what I thought was a wasp or hornet outside my window. Perhaps some nest activity in the works? Got up, armed myself with a can of my close personal friend Wasp & Hornet Killer, and checked that side of the house. Didn't see anything, but sprayed anyway. Then I checked around the rest of the house for good measure, and found -- way up high where I can't reach either of them with the spray -- two small nests, damn them. Damn them all to hell. But no activity apparent, so maybe those are dead and abandoned. I will get closer with a ladder sometime, to make sure they're dead and knock 'em down.
-
And then after I was back inside, I went to the original window and there was a huge dragonfly sitting on the screen, so it might have just been that all along! Not sure, but I think they can make a pretty good buzzing noise, too.
-
I am now drinking coffee and contemplating what my morning and afternoon might consist of, and whether some of it might be put off till tomorrow.
-
Nice pic DR JohnG. Congrats.
Great results for the Vixfamily!
-
My body is a bit tired from my pool activity yesterday. But today it supposed to be another nice day. So I think I will go for a bike ride and then go swimming again at the pool closer to me.
-
Then I have to pick up my little niece at 3pm because my older niece has her swimming gala then (and another swim meet going on right now). Even though the finals were last week they still have 3 more meets the next 3 weekends. And then the first summer swim meet starts on June 23rd.
-
I am looking forward to watching The Tony awards tonight. But i'm not sure if i will be able to start at 8pm. I have to bring my niece home and wait until the rest of her family gets home.
-
I am assuming that the Tonys are not on live on the West Coast?
-
It's Sunday. Beyond that, I know nothing. Absolutely nothing.
-

Just from that point of view, a gratuitous oldie:
(tune of Someone to Watch Over Me)
There are someones who we long to berate
Woe is our fate;
Make them think straight
The ones who watch our estate
All we want is for our heirs to behave
It feels like they’ve
Deepened our grave
The ones who watch our estate
Although it’s not as big an earner
As Rodgers or Lerner
Some props for the folks who create
You would think they had no food on their plate
Couldn’t they wait?
Oh how we hate
The ones who watch our estate
-
Excellent post re Porgy and Bess, Mr. DR Elmore, sir.
Thank you. And I forgot to mention: to confuse the issues, the Gershwin estate has changed the title of the original opera Porgy and Bess to The Gershwins Porgy and Bess, and this piece of crap devised by Paulus and crew is also titled The Gershwins Porgy and Bess!
That shouldn't cause any confusion at all!
-
Greetings from Toyland!
-
What?
-
Oh....Page Two.
Page Two Bushel & A Peck Dance. NOT FROM MY SHOW.

Hoping DD Zach is doing well today. Nice piano news from DR SINGDAW!
Ruth's Chris.....I have never eaten there because I can't afford to.....but I enjoy reading about it.
Nice photos from DR Dr JOHN G. And more nice photos from the International DR VIXMOM.
-
Good morning.
-
Our show was good last night, and we had our largest audience yet. People love the show, which is good. And the cast is having a good time. Now we are off until Wednesday when we begin our second week of performances.
-
DR Elmore, I had read that about The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. Still, it was nice to hear the music and see the story, even if it was not what the originators had intended.
It's a good thing I read about the story online, because I really couldn't understand much of what they were singing. Every show is like that at the Gammage theater, it seems.
-
Jrand, do you get a brush-up rehearsal before Wednesday?
-
DR Jrand63, will there be any audio/video excerpts available?
-
And I am home. It's a zoo outside: Sixth Avenue is blocked with the Puerto Rican parade and the uptown side of Broadway between 72nd and 86th Streets isclosed for a street fair so all uptown traffic is clogging up Amsterdam Avenue.
It's good to be home and out of the madness.
-
I am dragging today , I guess standing and cooking all took it out of me I ache all over
This morning I was the lay reader, hosted coffee hour and was altar guild I juts want to crawl into bed but friends who came to our dinner last night asked me to see Die, Mommie, Die with them today so I am leaving in about 15 minutes to go there
I know nothing about it, but to me, it sounds like a show that would be put on bu George's theatre group
-
Happy Tonys Day, all!
I'm off in the next hour to rehearse and be a part of this lovely event honoring Barbara Cook, as we watch the Tonys on NY time.
Have a wonderful Tonys evening, everyone!
-
I'm up. The thoughtful neighbors waited until ten-fifteen to come outside, make noise for five minutes, then disappear never to be heard from again today. I don't get it. But then the phone rang anyway so up I was.
-
No brush up - no one ever gets serious about it, so why waste the time.
Perhaps some video....time will tell.
-
I went swimming today at the outdoor pool near my house that was free today. I was annoyed because they said that because there were more than 30 people they could not open the deep end for deep end swim. I really could not understand the logic of this. It is boiling hot out. Of course there are more than 30 people. So they will never open the deep end? I like to do exercises there (much much prefer it where i can't touch the bottom).
My niece's pool has the deep end open whenever anyone asks for it (which is 50% of the time).
I tried to ask them how this made sense since the deep end would never be open on a hot day. They tried to say it was a legal rule. But if there are less than 25 people then there would probably only be one life guard. They are implying that it is dangerous to have a lot of people in the deep end. So it is less dangerous to have one lifeguard watching all the little kids by the stairs and the deep end at the same time. If they are so worried then just have another life guard standing by the deep end or limit the amount of people allowed in the deep end at once.
-
10:15am is practically the middle of the day. :)
-
Since the Tony Awards are tape delayed on the Left Coast, I thought we normally avoided spoilers for the benefit of the Pacific time zone viewers. If that is not going to be the case this year, the decision should be made soon.
-
For kicks, the Tony number from GOLDEN RAINBOW
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4SF6QWxOPE
-
Sunday afternoon greetings! I woke up at 5:30 this morning as if we were going to Lima, but today was a church-with-Rob-and-Mary-Linda day. When we got home from there and lunch with them at Panera, I had to have a nap. Never would make it through the Tony broadcast otherwise.
-
Congratulations to those victorious DRs, Vixmom and The Vixter!
-
Post modified to save space, plus the question was answered.
-
DR Laura, is it the movie BEACHES?
-
I don't know, Ginny. I will let her know to check that out. Thanks.
-
That number from GOLDEN RAINBOW is certainly trying hard to be "now" and "with it."
-
Page two? Really?
-
I guess we can have spoilers for the Coast of West, but still want posts about everything else.
-
I am hoping to be here this evening, but I may have to go to my brother's house. We shall see.
-
From DR John:
Jane, I don't know if I'll do anything differently because I have the degree other than use the information I learned in future work and life.
That really is what education should be about.
-
Congratulations to the Vixwomen!!!!!
I'm not surprised the prep time on the cake was far more than 15 minutes, especially the first time making it. Sometimes these times are figured by someone who is an expert at making the dish.
DR Vixmom did you also win for best costume? You look great!!!! What was the prize your are holding up?
-

10:15am is practically the middle of the day. :)
I was mowing the yard at 10:15 am, having been up for 3 1/2 hours already
-
I've been E and T because I went to Estherville to go to the funeral for my sister in law's father. It was actually a great experience. All his children and grand children were there from all over the country, from Washington state to Florida to Michigan to Colorado. It was a family reunion and mom and dad and I were included. I met everyone at their family reunion a few years ago. It was so nice to see everyone. I also got to spend time with my grand nephew Gabe. I LOVED that.
Bob, the deceased, was instrumental in making sure they had family reunions every few years and everyone attended in one part of the country or another. So, it was very appropriate for his funeral to also be a family reunion
-
I slept extremely late today, until almost 8:00, but then I didn't fall asleep until close to 3:30.
-
DR Cilla sometimes funerals can be nice, especially when they truly honor the person as this one did.

He was always happy, even when he was in Assisted Living then the nursing home and finally in hospice. He almost made 90
-
That reminds me I need to make my memorial donation.
-
That's very nice, Cillaliz.
I have never met my SIL's parents or BIL's parents.
-
After seeing Philomena, I decided to watch The Magdalene Sisters, which is a much more brutal - perhaps more honest - look at the Magdalen laundries run by Ireland's Catholic church. The documentary "Sex In A Cold Climate," which is the only special feature on the DVD, is about four victims of these laundries who were the inspiration for the three main characters in the film. Their personal stories about their time in the laundries are much more horrifying than anything in the film itself.
I don't know any of the Irish actresses, but Geraldine McEwen, whom I've loved as Lucia in the Mapp/Lucia PBS adaptations, is terrifying as the bullying mother superior.

You and me both!
-
Seventy posts at 4:23 p.m. on the left coast? Really?
-
And 1 Guest is the only other person here!
-
I'm not sure I can do much to help this situation.
-
Oh great, now we have 2 Guests and me!

Washington State? Did they know me?
-
And me. But only for a moment.
-
I've been watching the first 2 episodes of season 2 of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK. It's tempting to binge on it, but I don't want to miss the
Miss USA Pageant Tony Awards.

I'm finally back. Today's concessions session was fairly light. The dance school end-of-year showcases were four one-hour blocks, and I only had to stay for the first two. After I left, I went to Taco Del Mar for some dinner (I had a $5 off punch card!) and now I'm home. Time to ketchup on all the posts, then it's THE TONY AWARDS!! :D

I just ate the orange slices that were floating in yesterday's Mimosa Punch. What Sondheim lyric does that bring to mind?

DR Jennifer I have never heard of a pool closing the deep end.
Neither have I. The pool that I used to go to when I was a kid was either open or not.

Maybe it's just the latest "dance stylings" of one of BK's favorite choreographers.
;)
-
Ok, it's a take off on Tony Van hopping across town to "Take Me To Broadway" in Small Town Girl they showed a clip but I never would have figured that one out without google

Hello. Sorry I'm late to the party!
-
Congratulations on your victory last night, Vixmom.

Well, I haven't seen either of the shows that were honored so far.

I was very happy about the first award. Liek Ginny & Richard I was lucky enough to see the performance and I think the award was well deserved!

-
I know NPH is busy doing Hedwig but I sure preferred his Tony opening numbers
-
Spotted Rosie O'Donnell in the audience.
-
the 2nd award I had no clew missed all those performances but the winner seemed TRULY thrilled and it was fun to watch her cast mate's joy at her win
-
TCB was that vague enough for you?
-
I thought Brent B might be in the audience but then realized he has a show tonight.
-
BK was that specific enough for you?
-
Spotted Rosie O'Donnell in the audience.
She's getting (or got) the Isabelle Stevenson Award.
-
Congrats on the big win Vixmom!
-
Adele Dazeem is performing!
-
The first two numbers were fine but did not inspire me to go see the shows

Musical number #3
-
Spotted Rosie O'Donnell in the audience.
She's getting (or got) the Isabelle Stevenson Award.
That's right, DR George! I had forgotten.
-
not feeling the inspiration to plop down $100 for this one either
-
Imagine how thrilled I'll be to find that is in my season ticket package in a couple years, Vixmom. Whatever it is.
-
TCB was that vague enough for you?
I know exactly who you were talking about!!
-
I was very happy about the first award. Liek Ginny & Richard I was lucky enough to see the performance and I think the award was well deserved!
Do I know Liek Ginny?
-
DR Laura-- I always enjoy reading your conversations.

The first two numbers were fine but did not inspire me to go see the shows
Richard said the same thing!
-
I'm glad about the results for this award.
-
By 10:15 AM I has already sliced 15 cakes, made 1 gallons each of Tang/Koolaid, poured 20 cups each of Tang, Koolaid and Apple juice, made 8 pots of coffee, participated in a worship service, reset the altar for communion and served coffee and cake to approximately 85 people
-
Congrats on the big win Vixmom!
Vixmom won a Tony? Why isn't there a SPOILER ALERT?
-

The local station is showing weather alerts, which are quite annoying on the screen. They're blocking the part of the head of the speaker. It's only for a thunderstorm.
-
Not to change the subject, TCB, but you mentioned American Ninja Warrior a couple of weeks ago. My nephew thinks he'll be on the show on June 23rd. He tried out in Denver.
-
Congrats on the big win Vixmom!

Musical Number # 4 I may not see ANY of the shows this season
-
An Oscar too, DR vixmom?
Oh darn, did I post the wrong picture? With all these awards cluttering up the place , I get them confused
-
I cannot stand listening to Idina Menzel, but I sure laughed myself silly watching her. Did her eyes cross at one point?
-
Which reminds me , Jane, to answer your questions from yesterday, there was no costume award, but a lot of us like to dress up to match our theme and the Vixter and I each won a $20 Groupon coupon to a local pizzeria
-
Just checked facebook and saw a photo of Rosie holding her Tony, so she must have been part of the earlier ceremony.

This award was expected, I believe.
-
Congrats on the big win Vixmom!
Vixmom won a Tony? Why isn't there a SPOILER ALERT?
Oh Spoo....meant to do that!!!
-
Not to change the subject, TCB, but you mentioned American Ninja Warrior a couple of weeks ago. My nephew thinks he'll be on the show on June 23rd. He tried out in Denver.
Thank you Kevin, I will watch for him. If you want to PM his name to me, I would appreciate it.
-
I cannot stand listening to Idina Menzel, but I sure laughed myself silly watching her. Did her eyes cross at one point?
The funny shape of her mouth is what I noticed
-
Hello, everyone.
I'm afraid that all my posts today will be of the mundane variety--no witty or urbane or snarky Tony posts.
-
Well per our agreement Vixdad just flipped the channel over to Game of Thrones so I am now out of the loop
-
Great photo of DRJohn G in his grad rags. Hope you're enjoying the Catskills!
-
My friend Paul is in NYC, I think he was going to try to go to Cabaret
-
Congrats to Vixmom and The Vixter!
-
Feel-chipper vibes to DD Zach.
-
After listening to the CD of Bridges of Madison County, I do wish I could have seen that one
-
Oh yes!!! Mega Vibes to DR ZACH.....maybe he needs a wellness check so you can see the vet again :)
-
And CONGRATS to DR John G!
-
Um, this CABARET - no, thanks!
-
And thanks to DR Jeanne who is reminding me of the posts I didn't make while I was out of town
-
Um, this CABARET - no, thanks!
I wouldn't want to see that either.
-
At least we are on page 6 already
-
Oh yes!!! Mega Vibes to DR ZACH.....maybe he needs a wellness check so you can see the vet again :)
:)
-
George i think your group would really enjoy doing Die Mommie Die[\b]
-

:)
LOL, that should have been DD Zach
-
Well per our agreement Vixdad just flipped the channel over to Game of Thrones so I am now out of the loop
Ah, well, Vixmom. I just watch the youtube clips -- saves a couple of hours not having to watch the rest.
-
My neighbor has the alarm horn on his car going off then he stops it for a minute, then it goes off again. He's working on the car but I wish he'd do it somewhere else, or just disconnect the dang alarm
-

LOL, that should have been DD Zach
Are you sure he hasn't been posting under an alias?
-
George i think your group would really enjoy doing Die Mommie Die[\b]
That reminds me, DR vixmom, I watched Die! Die! My Darling! today. I had recorded it yesterday, I think. Tallulah Bankhead was a hoot!
-
My neighbor has the alarm horn on his car going off then he stops it for a minute, then it goes off again. He's working on the car but I wish he'd do it somewhere else, or just disconnect the dang alarm
I have several neighbors like that, but I don't think these people bother to work on their cars.

Could be!

It wasn't making noise until he started working on it
-
I also have some neighbors in another building, AKA The Frat Boys, who are OOOHHHH!!!ing a lot. somehow I don't think it's the Tonys they're watching.
-
Best introduction to a musical number !
-
Glad to hear that Larry had a long, fun lunch with his Facebook friend. Is this the first time you've met in person?
-
Hey, we don't have any members in Alaska or Hawaii do we? So at 8 o'clock, we don't need to do any Spoiler Alerts. I know that Australia and Japan watched the awards yesterday.

Can Oscar breathe in that plastic bag?
-
A number from "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder"--loved that show!
-

That's not fair!

At least we are on page 6 already
Already? What page were we on when the Oscars started?

Yes.

The NBA Finals. Or just smoking dope.
-
I cannot stand listening to Idina Menzel, but I sure laughed myself silly watching her. Did her eyes cross at one point?
She is a performer who has some..."mannerisms" that are quite unique.
;)
-
This award was expected, I believe.
Yup. It's one of the awards that are announced long before the broadcast.
-
George i think your group would really enjoy doing Die Mommie Die
I agree. I've seen the movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. :)
-
Well, we're down to an hour and a half before the west coast broadcast starts.
-
And since we're so close...

then, early in this decade, the Gershwin estate, in what I believe was an attempt to extend the copyright, decided Porgy and Bess needed to be saved and turned into a musical theatre piece. Who cares what George, Ira or Dubose would think of the of this idea: they can't complain; THEY'RE ALL DEAD!. So the graverobbers dug up the body and cut it apart.
Just from that point of view, a gratuitous oldie:
(tune of Someone to Watch Over Me)
There are someones who we long to berate
Woe is our fate;
Make them think straight
The ones who watch our estate
All we want is for our heirs to behave
It feels like they’ve
Deepened our grave
The ones who watch our estate
Although it’s not as big an earner
As Rodgers or Lerner
Some props for the folks who create
You would think they had no food on their plate
Couldn’t they wait?
Oh how we hate
The ones who watch our estate
I enjoyed this, Fred.

Actually, I was referring to one of the acting awards!

Both good guesses, I'm sure.

Probably not!

Oh, sorry. :)

I liked the opening comment from NPH last year about, "Welcome to the Tony Awars; or, as we call it, "Fifty Shades of Gay!"
-
Adele Dazeem is performing!
;D
-

Yup...funny and accurate. ;)
-
An Oscar too, DR vixmom?
Oh darn, did I post the wrong picture? With all these awards cluttering up the place , I get them confused
;D :)
-
Which reminds me , Jane, to answer your questions from yesterday, there was no costume award, but a lot of us like to dress up to match our theme and the Vixter and I each won a $20 Groupon coupon to a local pizzeria
I liked your outfit and it makes it more fun that way. You are all set for a big pizza party.
-

LOL, I doubt it.

Three months ago today, Malaysa Flight 370 disappeared. Next month the search will be moved to Area 51.

Oh, I do too. I don't mean to make light of the people onboard, but merely the inept way the entire search was handled.

July 19 is the 25th anniversary of the crash of United Flight 232 in Sioux City. There's going to be a three day commemoration/memorial/what have we learned since then event. If you don't remember it's the airplane that seemed to cartwheel down the runway. 112 died but 184 survived. A lot of the credit for that was given to the preparedness of our emergency services here who had done a drill 2 years earlier of a plane crash in almost the same place. I've been invited to a reception where the flight crew will be present.
Other than one flight attendant who died in the crash and one of the flight crew who died a couple years ago, they are all expected to be here, as are many of the survivors. They have a 25th reunion facebook page and it's been very interesting to see how many want to come back to Sioux City.

This kid's pooping out.
Good night, all.

OH!!! Very happy about Best Score!
-
Me too, DR Cillaliz!
-
Why is HEDWIG considered a Revival when it has never been on Broadway before. When LITTLE SHOP was on Broadway a few years back, was it also considered a Revival?
-
So, how are the Tonys? In general?
-
I watched a couple of things, and now I await the Tony Awards.
-
Page seven? Really?
-
Page eight? Really?
-
Will we never get to page fifty?
-
OH!!! Very happy about Best Score!
Not me. The jerk is already conceited enough.
-
It's a miracle so many people survived that accident, Cillaliz.
-
Why is HEDWIG considered a Revival when it has never been on Broadway before. When LITTLE SHOP was on Broadway a few years back, was it also considered a Revival?
Yes. The rules were changed that year. So, they're now considered classics if there's been a few years since a show first appeared.
-
So, how are the Tonys? In general?
Mixed as usual with good moments and a few embarrassing ones. Not as bad as the Oscars by a long shot.
-
Get this Wicked tripe off the screen.
-
And Meredith Willson is rolling over in his grave...
-
What did they do to the Music Man?
This must be one of those embarrassing moments Elmore was talking about
-
OH!!! Very happy about Best Score!
Not me. The jerk is already conceited enough.
Well, that tells me who won :) That's two huge flop shows of his that have won him a Tony.
-
OH!!! Very happy about Best Score!
Not me. The jerk is already conceited enough.
Well, I like the music.
-
lead actor in a musical .....

me too
-
Why is HEDWIG considered a Revival when it has never been on Broadway before. When LITTLE SHOP was on Broadway a few years back, was it also considered a Revival?
The rules were changed some time ago. The Broadway runs weren't the first major productions, and they both even had movies made. Now, a show that has been around for a long time can be considered a revival, even though it's the first time that it's on Broadway.
-

What John G. said.
;)
-
So why wasn't Aladdin a revival? It was a movie.
-
I am not a juke box musical fan but I know a number of people who sawBeautiful and they all loved it
-
Liked the Beautiful segment.
-
It's a miracle so many people survived that accident, Cillaliz.
They had 25 minutes warning as the plane did right turns and circled it's way to the airport. And the emergency personnel from the area were all prepared. Since they had done a drill 2 years earlier, they all knew what to do. The hospital was just changing shifts, so they kept everyone there and others came in They had enough people to put a doctor a nurse and someone else...maybe an intern or something on each person as they came in. So there was triage at the airport and a doctor the second they got to the hospital who stayed with the patient until they were where they needed to be for the treatment they need. It's an amazing story.
The pilots lost all hydrolics which isn't supposed to ever happen so no one knew what to do. There was a DC-10 training pilot on board so the four members of the crew had to use the throttles to guide the plane down. No one has ever been able to replicate it in a simulator. They don't make it to the airport. It's amazing all 4 men in the cockpit survived.
-
I am not a juke box musical fan but I know a number of people who sawBeautiful and they all loved it
I loved the BEAUTIFUL sequence; my CHRISTMAS UP THE HOLLER producer is in the ensemble.
-
So why wasn't Aladdin a revival? It was a movie.
good question!
-
So why wasn't Aladdin a revival? It was a movie.
New script and songs for the live version. Plus the old songs.
-
And I loved THE MUSIC MAN moment.

Still looking forward to seeing your show, Elmore.
-
elmore, have you seen Beautiful?
-
Hmmm I wasn't too fond of the Music Man moment. I'll be curious to hear BKs take on it
-
I love Carole King, I think I would really enjoy BEAUTIFUL
-

I wish we had seen BEAUTIFUL when we were in NYC this spring.

So why wasn't Aladdin a revival? It was a movie.
New script and songs for the live version. Plus the old songs.
AND it's never been a stage musical before. I think that that's the real reason.
Both "Hedwig" and "Little Shop" had been around a long time and had movies made from the stage musicals.
-
I hope Beautiful is still playing in October when my friend Paul and I will be in NYC.
-
elmore, have you seen Beautiful?
I would like to. My priority is A GENTLEMAN's GUIDE; when it was on TDF, I couldn't afford a ticket. Now it's no longer on TDF.
-
I am not a juke box musical fan but I know a number of people who sawBeautiful and they all loved it

guess you'll have to come back and we can go together -- and pick up Cilla on your way, please
-
Violet is a revival? I thought it was new ...
The original off-Broadway production was in 1998. There also was a recording made (http://castalbums.org/recordings/Violet-1998-Original-Off-Broadway-Cast/2567/) of that production.
-
A Music Man moment? I'll await.
-
And I loved THE MUSIC MAN moment.
horse racing ... I hated it
It doesn't affect THE MUSIC MAN as a scoore or show, and I've seen much much lousier arrangements of musical numbers in revisals and on recordings.
-

Not me. The jerk is already conceited enough.
Gee, I wonder who that could be?

Me too, I was thinking it was my favorite...well maybe after Beautiful
-
And now for something completely different...35 Of The Most Concerning Autocorrect Fails Of All Time (http://www.buzzfeed.com/erinchack/the-most-concerning-autocorrect-fails-of-all-time?bffb). I don't know if they're real, but they're pretty
darned damned funny! :D
-
Lots of folks love the Bridges score - I've only heard one song from it - they posted Kelli O'Hara recording it - when they trumpet that it's one of the most thrilling and ravishing theater songs ever, that's what I kind of want to hear. It wasn't that. It wasn't close. It was okay, like most of his stuff. I've actually never loved any of his stuff - I kind of like a few things. The previous musical that got all those "ravishing" and "thrilling" comments was Light in the Piazza - and I really didn't like that. So, that's one person's opinion of one song. Again, most folks I've talked to feel as Cilla does.
-
Page nine? Really?
-
WELCOME 45 GUESTS!
-
For those splitting their posting time between Facebook and here - I can guarantee you many more are seeing here than the two people there :)
-
Six minutes to the Tonys.
-
HEY! We need to get to page fifty.
-
Pull your weight. I just pulled my weight and there was a little too much to pull.
-
Cute number with the musical leading ladies.
-
I had a Subway Club for lunch, some popcorn and some low-cal low-fat ice cream. Under 1200 calories for sure, probably closer to 1000 and I'll try to keep it to that. We shall see.
-
Sounds like there are a lot of performance numbers on this year's Tony's.
-
Is it going to be a three-hour show? Doesn't sound like it.
-
Why are we stuck on page nine?
-
Seriously, someone is trying to Gaslight us -
-
We should have been on page ten several posts ago.
-
Great for Jesse.
-
What the HELL is going on?
-
Page ten? Really?
-
Without mentioning names, anything sweeping?
-

I just noticed that my DVR is now recording and I have removed myself from FB...even before I saw your post. ;)

There are, it's refreshing
-

That was two unnecessary not-yet-but-coming-to-Broadway numbers, and neither made me want to see the show.

-

DR slingshot does.
-

WTH!! It's not over and our local station cut to the news.
-
Oh, now it's back, guess they weren't monitoring it.
-
Just in time to see the winning best musical
-
happy, elmore?
-
WTH!! It's not over and our local station cut to the news.
That's happened from the Seattle broadcast before. :P

Those were hilarious, DR George! I have a mildly amusing one: I texted my friend Robin after seeing her in New York: "We always have a lot of fun when we're together" and autocorrect substituted "gin" for "fun."
-
I'm happy with the last award.
-
The show is just about over.
-
happy, elmore?
For the most part.
-
For those splitting their posting time between Facebook and here - I can guarantee you many more are seeing here than the two people there :)
Why would anyone be watching the Tonys on Facebook?
-
I haven't seen Tv since last year's Tonys. A lot of music in the second half. Not all of it good.
-
It ended at about 9 after 10. So it only went over 9 minutes
-
Goodnight!
-
I haven't seen Tv since last year's Tonys. A lot of music in the second half. Not all of it good.
You haven't seen TV in a year?
-
Now, how did the Spurs do ?
-
Hugh Jackman looks like he is selling cough drops.
-
Mark Rylance just won for Featured Actor in a Play.
-
I haven't seen Tv since last year's Tonys. A lot of music in the second half. Not all of it good.
You haven't seen TV in a year?
Have you been boarding with DR Laura?
-
I'll have to wait 'til morning for the West Coast reactions to the Tony broadcast - 'night!
-
Mark Rylance just won for Featured Actor in a Play.
I was so happy he won, he was wonderful
-
Really enjoyed the opening number - so much better, for me at least, than the smarmy, winking stuff Neil Patrick Harris does. Mr. Jackman has real charm and it's never winky winky.
-
The After Midnight stuff was not thrilling to me and is just not anything I'd ever be interested in seeing.
-
Nice tribute by Mr. Rylance to Sam Wanamaker, who I had the pleasure of dining with at one of my cousin's seders. He was accompanied at that meal by Jan Sterling. It was all downhill after that year :)

Back to the show.

Lena Hall, Featured Actress in a Musical for "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"
-
I haven't seen Tv since last year's Tonys. A lot of music in the second half. Not all of it good.
You haven't seen TV in a year?
Have you been boarding with DR Laura?
I just never watch it at home. Wouldn't have seen the Tonys if I hadn't been in the wilds of New Hampshire.
-
The After Midnight stuff was not thrilling to me and is just not anything I'd ever be interested in seeing.
They have strange marketing. I was interested in seeing it only when k.d. lang was in it. But then the producers released videos of her three numbers. So why would I need to see the show?
-
Good night, all.
-
Goodnight? The party's just beginning, baby.

no, not a rebuke, just an explanation ... some of my friends are here some are on FB
-
happy, elmore?
I believe that was HAPPY GILMORE.
-
Aladdin - wow - does anyone know how to choreograph originally anymore? And without resorting to the splits and back flips? And without resorting to fireworks to pump up the end of the number? And have a ride out instead of a one measure ending? Think Hello, Dolly - one of the greatest show stoppers in history - not a flashing light in sight, no fireworks, no back flips or splits. Go know.
-
All my friends are here. I do have over 3,000 on Facebook, but my real, true friends - right here, each and every one. :)
-
I need to be rebuked right now.
-
I don't know why I'm in such a food mood these days - I need to lose the weight I gained about ten pounds maybe even fifteen, but all I want to do is EAT.
-
Damn them, damn them all to hell.
-
DR slingshot does.
Hey!! :)
-
Sorry I missed the East Coast Tony party - it's been a day. :P
-
Now, how did the Spurs do ?
They lost.
-
DR elmore3003 - really appreciated your comments on Porgy.
-
Thanks for all the comments and concern about
DR DD Zach. He is low energy today, but he has eaten a little bit, with no resulting emanations from either end. So all in all, hopeful progress. :)
-
Just seen on the local news: there is a backwater town in MN that has wood tick races. Oy!
-
DR Cillaliz - glad that your family together time was meaningful for all, despite the sad circumstances.
-
Darko Tresnjak won for Best Director of a Musical, "A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder."
-
I caught bits and pieces of the Tony telecast, and it seemed to be a mixed bag. Will be interested to read the other comments from the West Coast as things develop.
-
There were some moving moments amongst the various acceptance speeches.
-
Kenny Leon won Best Director of a Play, "A Raisin in the Sun."
-
Good evening. I missed the first half hour, saw the rest.
-
Clint Eastwood is looking kind of frail.
-
I wonder if the "In Memoriam" was cut for time, or if they never planned to have one this year?
-
They appear to be using live musicians located in the same building this year. If so, it is a welcome step forward.
-

Make sure he's drinking water. When they've had those issues it's easy for them to get dehydrated
-
If/Then - from the title of the show to the song to Idina Menzel - everything I cannot stand about musical theatre today. A mind-numbing "pop" anthem, with "today's" singing - not for me.
-
Always fun to see Clint, but yes, he seems a bit frail.
-
Oh, I think that's where I came in -- right at the end of that Menzel song.
-
Rocky - I understand that's what they thought they needed to do for the Tony broadcast, but really - all that music has nothing to do with the actual original musical score by Flaherty and Ahrens. And while I'm sure that the match is spectacular in the theater, on the broadcast it just seemed small and not that interesting.
-
Make sure he's drinking water.
Yes, indeed! Thanks.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Someone please rebuke me for SOMETHING :)
-
Older Jewish men need to be rebuked at least once a day.
-
I forgot to mention Les Miz - just don't ever need to see it again, and certainly don't want to see it with projections.
-
Bad rabbi! You've been a very bad rabbi!
-
I agree with everything bk said about the Rocky number.
-
There is an old gospel number called "I Been 'Buked". :)
-
I've never heard it sung by an old Jewish gentleman, however.
-
James Monroe Iglehart won Best Featured Actor for "Aladdin."
-
Another movie star presenter who hasn't been on Broadway (yet).
-
DR Cillaliz - glad that your family together time was meaningful for all, despite the sad circumstances.
It was sad at the funeral and at the visitation, but he was just shy of his 90th birthday and had an aggressive cancer. He was doing well up until the last couple weeks and it would have been a lot more suffering if he had lingered. So it was a sad occasion, but he had a good run.
Actually I'm not sure there was a lot of time to be that sad, there was also an asthma attack, a car accident, two drunk women who fell on water in the bathroom resulting in a trip to the ER at 3:30 AM and 9 stitches in a forehead, a grandson who's flight was cancelled from Atlanta to Sioux Falls and he was re-routed to Minneapolis, so there was a late night 6 1/2-7 hour round trip drive to get him so he would be there in time for the funeral..... Let's just say it was quite an eventful gathering. It was just one thing after another and we ended up laughing a lot.
And no I was not in this car accident and I wasn't one of the drunk women. I was at my parents' house sound asleep

I did some low-carb dieting a few weeks ago and dropped ten pounds. (Not patting myself on the back. First ten or whatever is always the easy part.) Stopped it because I was traveling and what not, but am starting again tomorrow.
This post had nothing to do with the Tonys.
It does have something to do with the Snickers bar I just ate.
-
I don't know why I'm in such a food mood these days - I need to lose the weight I gained about ten pounds maybe even fifteen, but all I want to do is EAT.
I know what you mean. I had a nice big salad already to dress for dinner. But I was out and about and next thing I know I am in the drive-thru at McDonald's.
-
Wow, DR Cillaliz - that's quite a list! :)
-
I had a nice big salad already to dress for dinner.
Where did you hang the carrots?
-
Watching Cabaret's opening number, I was instantly reminded why I loathed the revival. I realize I was and am in the minority.
-
Alan Cummings was cute 16 years ago!
-
I think my favorite song tonight was Rock Island.
-
Was I rebuked when I was gone?
-
Page 13? Really?
-
The broadcast is moving right along, though.
-
I did some low-carb dieting a few weeks ago and dropped ten pounds. (Not patting myself on the back. First ten or whatever is always the easy part.)
I've been hiking miles every day. And I've lost 2.6 pounds in four months. I have followed a sensible diet for months now.
But I have massive calf muscles, I hear.

Yes, so we've all heard. :)

I think I read it on the internet!
-
DR elmore3003 - really appreciated your comments on Porgy.
Audra didn't.
-
I'm afraid the hay is beckoning to be hit. By the likes of me.
-
Audra didn't.
;D
-
I've heard that there is a blog on the Internet solely devoted to DR Laura's massive calf muscles.
-
I've heard that there is a blog on the Internet solely devoted to DR Laura's massive calf muscles.
And someday there will be a musical based on the movie, based on the TV series, based on the book about them.
-
Not as massive as former DR Jason's, though.
-
Sophie Okonedo won Featured Actress in a Play, "A Raisin in the Sun." And she's a Jewish British Nigerian! Who knew?
-
Wow, DR Cillaliz - that's quite a list! :)
Seriously, we were all laughing at what was going to happen next. No one was seriously hurt, but my parents kept walking around saying "If you hit your head, you need to worry about a subdural hematoma, make sure you don't have one" my grandfather had one so mom would tell the whole story of him falling and hitting his head, it really is serious, but my parents don't have very good short term memory so they both just kept talking about it. By the last day my dad had convinced himself that he had one in the past - he's never had one but he's just sure he did and was talking about it. It was quite the experience
-
Nice parody, DR FJL.
But I miss all the ones that feature FETA. :)
-
LOL. Your family reunions are loads more fun than my DH's were, Cillaliz.
-
Someone please rebuke me for SOMETHING :)
Well I might have thought as party host you would have prepared some refreshments!
-
Not as massive as former DR Jason's, though.
I'm sure there will be a scene in the book/movie/musical of you and Jason comparing calf muscles
-

consider yourself rebuked
:)

Sophie Okonedo won Featured Actress in a Play, "A Raisin in the Sun." And she's a Jewish British Nigerian! Who knew?
I think I heard that earlier tonight ;)
-
Ahh...trained voices!
;)
-
LOL. Your family reunions are loads more fun than my DH's were, Cillaliz.
Well it isn't my family it's my sister in law's. My mom kept saying "Boy, this would never have happened in my family". We seriously laughed a lot.
-

This post had nothing to do with the Tonys.
It does have something to do with the Snickers bar I just ate.
I should follow your example
-
I am, of course, talking about the Snickers bar
-
I was eating dinner with some friends this evening and one of them was talking about New Jersey diners.
It made me want to launch a three-week tour of every diner in NJ, LI, and CT.
-
I should get some sleep. I have a couple projects I've successfully put off as long as they can be put off. If I want to get them done in the morning I need to go in before Edith gets there. So good night all
-
I liked the number from GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE.
-
Did anyone note that "somebody" won for orchestration over Jonathan Tunick?
-

that comment made this song appear in my brain

I feel better now, having been properly rebuked. And I should have provided refreshments. And speaking of same, I though A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder looked, at least, like a real musical - although why they have to use projections is just silly. The song owed more than a little to my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim (a la A Little Night Music) but I enjoyed it the best of anything I've seen so far and it's the only one I'd actually like to see.
-
Page fourteen? Really?
-
I liked the number from GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE.
I have the CD and really enjoy it.
-
I believe it may be time for a rebuke or two.
-

you need three weeks just for Long Island
-
REBUKED is the new CRANBERRIES. CRANBERRIES was the new UNDERPANTS.

Yes, I realized that after hitting "POST". Three weeks wouldn't even get one through a fair representation of one menu.
-
I've heard that there is a blog on the Internet solely devoted to DR Laura's massive calf muscles.
complete with photos and interviews
-

When listening to the aforementioned CD, it reminded me a lot of "The Mystery of Edwin Drood," which I love.

Audra McDonald just won her sixth, count 'em, SIXTH Tony Award!
-
Clint Eastwood is looking kind of frail.
And was there really a need for Clint to be talking to a chair?
-
Bryan Cranston won Best Actor in a Play.
-

exactly!
Today after seeing Die Mommie Die my friends and I stopped into a local diner (one of three within a mile of the theatre)
One friend had a beer and a sliced steak with melted mozzarella on a toasted garlic hero, his wife had a salad with balsamic and broiled shrimp scampi and soda while I had coffee and walnut encrusted french toast with maple butter
-
Good night. I am expecting a tap at my door very early in the morning.
-
I missed the second hour of the Tony's while we were watching Jon Snow and the men of Castle Black defend against a Wilding attack
-
sorry -- should I have posted a spoiler alert?
-
When I listened to Bridges of Madison County CD one thing that really bugged me was the total mispronunciation of Osceola Iowa. It wasn't like she was using an accent, it was just plain wrong. I got over that but then burst out laughing at the lyric that he went from Minnesota around Lake Superior to get to Des Moines. That would be like Ginny going to NYC via Sioux City.
-
I keep seeing Die, Mommie, Die and thinking Die, Die, My Darling or Die, Monster, Die.
-
Other than that, I liked it
-
Good night. I am expecting a tap at my door very early in the morning.
Is school out?
-
Now I will go to sleep. Night
-
During the song, Neil, as Hedwig, kissed a man in the audience...it was his real husband. ;D
-
Hedwig - never saw it on stage but absolutely HATED the movie. Neil Patrick Harris looked good and I'm sure he or Jefferson Mays will win the award, although I'd bet Mr. Harris just because. And these children in the second balcony who are behaving like they're watching American Idol - either that, or someone is pushing a "shriek" button.
-
I think I just rebuked the children in the balcony.
-
Best Play, "All the Way."
-
Don't you think if you are going to work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, you would learn how to say Oregon?
-
Bryan Cranston won Best Actor in a Play.
my brother and SIL loved All the Way
-
I had a nice big salad already to dress for dinner.
Where did you hang the carrots?
They were the earrings.
-
Don't you think if you are going to work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, you would learn how to say Oregon?
I was thinking the exact same thing. ::)
-
Bryan Cranston won Best Actor in a Play.
my brother and SIL loved LBJ
A co-worker of mine saw this at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival before Bryan Cranston took over the role, and she said that the actor that she saw was fantastic and was really disappointed that he wasn't able to take the show to Broadway...she figured that Bryan Cranston's a "name."
-
Not as massive as former DR Jason's, though.
I'm sure there will be a scene in the book/movie/musical of you and Jason comparing calf muscles
That will be the eleven o'clock number.
-
Just had one little additional conversation with the attorney, and letter is going out at six in the morning when I announce our new title. It's going to a LOT of people.
-
Why is this awful song by Sting allowed? If we have that, why don't we have a number from EVERY musical supposedly coming in?
-
Even though the show's only been two hours it's beginning to feel like an eternity.
-
Why is this awful song by Sting allowed? If we have that, why don't we have a number from EVERY musical supposedly coming in?
I think it's another case of "we need non-Broadway people to get ratings."
:P
-
Best Play Revival, "A Raisin in the Sun."
-
Wicked? Really?
-
Page fifteen? Really?
-
Welcome 44 GUESTS!
-
I have been changed for good - and rebuked, too. This really is going to be three hours, isn't it.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
i need to wake up in 6 hours to go to work good night all
-
I enjoyed the number from WICKED. I didn't think it overstayed its welcome.
-
What about the Music Man segment?
-
I loved THE MUSIC MAN number.
-
Neil Patrick Harris for Best Actor in a Musical.
-
There was no way Harris wasn't going to win.
-
Really enjoyed the Beautiful segment and wouldn't mind seeing that show.
-
This broadcast is like the Energizer Bunny - it just keeps on going.
-
Not that I'm rebuking the Energizer Bunny.
-
I feel we will get to page sixteen. I just feel it. Or there will be a rebuking to remember.
-
Best Revival of a Musical: "Hedwig and the Angry Inch"
-
Tap dancing gangsters - I think I saw that, oh, forty years ago in Sugar. Better there. :)
-
Are we STILL on page fifteen? Really?
-
A number from the new musical, "Bullets Over Broadway," and it's not nominated for Best Musical.
-
Best Lead Actress in a Musical: Jessie Mueller.
-
One thing for Hugh Jackman, he certainly has the money note!
-
Another upcoming musical preview...Finding Neverland.
-
PAGE 16 TONY AWARDS DANCE!!
-
Okay, how much money did the Sting segment and Finding Neverland pay to be on the show. It's wretched - and the Finding Neverland song is APPALLING.
-
Page sixteen? Really?
-
Okay, how much money did the Sting segment and Finding Neverland pay to be on the show. It's wretched - and the Finding Neverland song is APPALLING.
I'd read that the version of the score to the soon-to-be-coming-to-Broadway "Finding Neverland" is a completely new score from a completely new songwriting team than the version that was performed in England.
-
How did I miss THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY?
-
Here it is...Best Musical: "A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder"
-
And it's done. :)
-
I thought it was a very good show tonight.
-
Congrats to our very own Adam Cates, the choreographer of The Brain in NY and at the Chance Theater in LA - he was the assistant choreographer on A Gentleman's Guide.
-
I have to eat something but rather than go out and have something horribly caloric I just made a little tuna - I had a can left and that should be fine.
-
And anyone who didn't enjoy tonight's Tony broadcast should be rebuked!!
-
Congrats to our very own Adam Cates, the choreographer of The Brain in NY and at the Chance Theater in LA - he was the assistant choreographer on A Gentleman's Guide.
Cool!
-
How did I miss THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY?
Do you mean the performance on tonight's show? You didn't. It closed last month and they didn't perform a song.
