I may be back later today.
The Christmas Eve Do sounds like it'll be fun...as usual!
Last night, DR Ron Pulliam posted about a great Christmas Eve Streak Grilling.
I'm imagining a bunch of people hanging around grilling in the buff, as they say.
It just won't be the same without David Niven presiding.
Is this the thee-der lady?

This is a soft gentle winter rain; I am concerned about the wild windy summer storms that will come in several months.
Fun notes re I Do! I Do!
I can credit the BK-produced recording of the revival with helping to make our production what it was. It's delightful on all fronts, but I had to be concerned with the two-piano arrangement which, as written, has any number of mundane spots in it that those pianists corrected and tweaked just enough to make it really good. Yrs truly shamelessly borrowed from it, and kept a scribbled copy of his notations in the event any future use is warranted.
My memory describes that London cast recording as "quaint". Or "so British". Maybe that's wrong, I dunno, I think I listened only a couple of times.

DR ChasSmith, was "Thousands of Flowers" in your production? I hear that Tom has rewritten the book, removed a song and replaced it with "Thousands of Flowers."

No, but we were deliberately doing the original, which is what MTI provided anyway.
Tom admitted that he would have liked it if we had incorporated some of his script changes, and he gave us a copy which I probably have here. I'll have to dig it out to see if "Flowers" is in it.
It has been raining for several hours, and I don't hear any tapping on the tarp.
Christmas Eve vibes for the mother of DR John G., the aunt of DR vixmom, for DR Jrand71, and the whole bloody lot of us. It's a time for giving and receiving them.
Methinks it's about time I watched Shaun of the Dead, which I never got around to seeing before, and then this new movie.
Today's value: eighteen cents.
It's less than an inch, but it's still cold enough and overcast enough that it's JUST SITTING THERE ON THE DRIVEWAY.
I'm glad to hear that Annabelle enjoyed a hearty breakfast this morning.
Starting to watch Bergman's film version of The Magic Flute. The local revival house used to show this every Christmas Day and I would escape the family drama/trauma into a Mozart wonderland.

I really love this film.
In thinking about those various beloved pieces

I would like to watch Hansel und Gretel. Is there a good version on YouTube?
DR Elmore, thank you for the e-card - Charlotte loves it!

My favorite remains the Met DVD with Judith Blegen and Fredrica von Stade, but I don't see it on YouTube. I like this filmed version, but BK did not, as I recall.

Shaun is a real hoot.
I'm terribly remiss this year. I haven't watched any Nutcracker or Amahl or Messiah. I've just listened to parts of them. Or Hansel and Gretl, but that's really nice for between Christmas and New Year's. Well, all of these are. Growing up, I used to enjoy them throughout the season, right through New Year's Day at least. So I've got some catching up to do, but I shall bask in it through the coming week.
I fully and freely admit to being a procrastinator, so go ahead. ;)
I will just say that I do not have the day off and I cannot sleep for various reasons.....
And it is 4 a.m. here and Barnum is covered but he knows I am typing on the computer and can't figure out why this is happening at this time of the day.....

The things you find...
Last night I was digging through a box of miscellaneous papers that I need to file and/or throw away, and out came a peso (a paper bill) from the Dominican Republic. Hot off the press. Unused. Un peso. Uno. One. No idea why I have it, and no memory of it. It must have come with something in the mail - like when Nielsen sends you a crisp new dollar bill to take part in a survey. Who the hell knows.
I just checked. Today's value: eighteen cents.
Christmas Eve greetings from Charlotte’s house! Our responsibility is to keep her occupied while her parents bake and wrap. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.
Well, this is pretty cool...Hugh Jackman praises ‘Music Man’ understudy for stepping into lead role last minute (https://nypost.com/2021/12/24/hugh-jackman-heaps-praise-on-hero-swing-actor-in-the-music-man/amp/).

DR George I think the hummingbird windchime is a nicer gift than the giftcard.

Once it reopens it should be very clean. You can dine together ;)
Two people have canceled for tonight - too scared to be around people. Almost two years into this thing and we're back at square one in terms of everyone's panic - so, we all got triple vaccinated and it doesn't seem to matter. Most who get this variant don't even know they have it. I hope the numbers abate, as some think they will, quickly.
My book guy fixed everything, I did a test on Kindle Direct and it worked perfectly. I sent it to the author with the directive NOT to upload it until we're on the phone together. He ignored that directive last time - hopefully he won't this time because there are a few things you need to do before uploading a PDF. I also had to adjust a few things because this insane author added yet another thank you - there are literally almost 100 PAGES of thank you to everyone he's ever met. I recommended he delete every one of them, but I think it's the reason he wrote the book. I also think he read Benjamin Kritzer because the the chapter titles are so like that book and I haven't really seen that in other books. In fact, I think it's his version of that book, his story, using the layout of the Kritzer books. It's just too close.

I think this variant is big load of nothing, as was the Alpha. This one's like a head cold for a day or two. Yes, you can catch it easier and maybe if we did herd immunity would settle in. But people should do whatever makes them comfortable. Muse Margaret tells me where they are in Montana there are zero cases, no variant outbreak and no one wears masks. Maybe we should all move there.
Today has flown. I did some laundry in the morning -- waaay behind -- then sent some ecards, vacuumed, and oh, spent about 30 minutes online chatting with GrubHub over some issues. (Instead of leaving my meal at my door the driver left it on the first floor IN THE RAIN! Then didn't even text me to let me know it was there. By the time I got it it was wet and cold. Not happy. But they refunded me for the whole order.)
My roof seems to be OK, no sign of any leaks, for a change.

In Montana people are massively distanced. There are more cows than people.

The dinner from Ann and Jen arrived around 4:30. It was huge with lots of turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, and veggies. Annabelle and Stella went berserk for a taste. I have enough left over for tomorrow's dinner.

Oh goodness. Last year I found a large order of groceries sitting outside of our building entrance, and off to the side. It took awhile to find out who the delivery was for. By they time they got their groceries the ice cream was very soft. Same thing, they were never notified of the delivery.
I feel bad for my cousin who has had her Christmas plans cancelled. Her husband has Epstein-Barr. It truly is a miracle that he is here, and is walking.
"...a basic cloth mask isn’t going to cut it anymore.
You have an indoor location, not good circulation, maybe you don't know if people are vaccinated or not and you just have cloth masks and you're in kind of a stuffy room, yeah, it's gonna fail sooner than a very tightly filtering mask"
The Do is Done and as Dos go it was wonderful. Only eleven of us, but the conversation was fun, everyone loved this year's sauce and said it was the best ever, I got the pasta al dente, the tuna pasta salad was great and, of course, I made too much food, even cutting back to three pounds of spaghetti. Many desserts were brought, all excellent. I've cleaned up some, and later I'll do the rest of the clean-up.
