TOD:

When I was little (3 - 9) I used to go on occassional  week-long trips to my Nana's house.  Nana lived in Fresh Meadows, Queens and she lived on the 9th floor of an apartment building with an elevator ! (I got to push the button!) And when you wanted to get rid of the garbage you went down the hall  and opened a door and inside was a little chute you threw your garbage down!

Nana and I would take the bus and the subways (I got to put the money/token in the  box/slot!) and go to NEW YORK CITY! Once we went to Radio City Music Hall and saw a movie in which Fred McMurray was wandering around the sewer system under Paris, France.  AND they had ACROBATS!! and JUGGLERS!!! AND DANCE-A-RINAS!!!!!!!

We would go to stock holders meetings... once I got a box of sugar cubes from a Domino Sugar meeting.... and we would eat in restaurants and shop in fancy stores and play in the park and feed the pigeons.  Exciting stuff for a suburbanite kid like me!

Then or now?

Yep, the rains came (a Fox movie reference).

Are you referring to a hotel called the Queen Mary?  Because the Queen Mary, as in the ship, has been part of the Long Beach landscape for ages.

The geodesic dome where the Spruce Goose was kept has been turned into a movie sound stage, since Howard Hughes' aircraft was shipped off to Seattle or somewhere in those parts.

Now, off to clean the dining room and then settle in for some TV/DVDs.

Sad day:  My last DeepDiscountDVD shipment arrived today...missing one item -- "Valley of the Dolls."

The box was "open" at the bottom...totally broken open at the seams.  The packing slip had been wadded up and added to a piece of paper that had been used to fill the side of the box...and it was placed as filler between the bottom of the box and the two other DVDs (and it's remarkable they were still in the box).

Had a long discussion with the USPS carrier about what to do.  I've also contacted DDD to find out how they want me to proceed in filing an "opened-package-with-missing-content" claim.

Sigh.

Actually, the Pacific Ocean might play a part in some of the humidity.

I doubt Callie will agree.

LOL, well, it's interesting. Bootsie is real weirded out. When I brought her in she was in the carrier. Callie didn't hiss at all, Bootsie had a FIT!!! She's in her own room right now and will be for awhile. This may take longer than I thought. Callie is purring she's cool with the situation but not the new one.  She'll settle down. It's just going to be awhile.

Can't you stay on the Queen Mary?  I think I got confused, first we went to Santa Barbara, and then we concluded our trip in Long Beach staying at/on the Queen Mary.  That's what you get when remembered through the view of an 11 year old - thanks for the correction.

When Walty came to stay we kept them separate for a while but put up a baby gate because everything we were told or read said that they should be separate but allowed to see/smell each other.  All that really did was make Killbot more frustrated and curious.  And then she spent all her time and energy finding ways to make it over the baby gate.  Good luck!

I have just officially begun writing what I hope will be a new novel.  Interestingly, it isn't any of the ideas I've been percolating on.  It's a new thing that just serendipitously presented itself to me and I just decided to start on that.  I did two pages just now, and now I shall have to get serious and do my usual few pages of notes in lieu of an outline, which I don't like to do.

I've been going back and forth on my several ideas, and the one I kept leaning towards was a comic/romantic story.  But I didn't love the idea of it so kept not starting on it.  Then I got this new idea for a comic/romantic story, and this one seems right to me.  I had fun starting it, and now we'll see where it takes me.  Two weeks ago, I'd started a little children's book - I may try to do them concurrently, just for fun.  The children's book would be fairly short.

Of course you can stay on the Queen Mary.  It's a luxury liner that has been refitted into a hotel.  It also has ghosts.  Reputedly.

It is also where I met Dick Van Dyke in person.  Not just reputedly.  They were filming an episode of Murder She Wrote on board, on the same day that der B and I were attending a political event.  Meeting Mister Van Dyke was far more interesting.

There has never, I repeat, NEVER been humidity of any consequence in Los Angeles County.

Except for when it rains.

Which happens all at once.  Gallon sized raindrops.

And then it's over.

Here in southern Delaware, we've got humidity.

My bed is dampish.  And not because of Marty, Mikey, Bonnie, Buster OR Fletcher.

It is humid here in southern Delaware.  So what.

Anyone think it's humid in Los Angeles?  I giggle at the thought.

Thin Bootsie, she is skin and bones.  She has calmed down somewhat, but got very upset at a pillow shaped like a cat. She was hissing and howling until I took it out of the room. She spent the last 30 minutes or so sitting on my lap purring.   I think the pain killers the vet gave for her post op are probably helping somewhat

TPunk, I've heard the same things.  I'm doing something a little different. They are actually not in sight or smell of each other right now, but in a day or so (Bootsie is pretty jumpy right now, so I may give her some extra time to mellow a little)  I'll let Callie sniff around in her room and let Bootsie sniff around in the rest of the house. Then I'll slowly introduce them. It's a pain in the behind, but it worked the last time. I'm hoping it will work again.

Does anyone know anything about the city Vancouver in Washington State?  I tried googling to find out info about things to do there, since one of Skip's old shows is being done in a small theater there.  Is it near anything touristy?

Good evening, fellow Dear Readers. I spent the day at the office, watching the printer repairman taking apart the printer and then being unable to fix it. So my end-of-the-month project will not get done in time.

DR Cillaliz, Bootsie probably feels you betrayed her, but she'll settle in. Even if you have to end up letting her go outside, she at least is spayed.

DR DerBrucer and DR SWoody, when we did fostering, we learned from the best in the biz. But when we made decisions on our own (the same decisions they would have made), they freaked out. They wanted to make every decision.
