DR CILLALIZ,
Regarding your unpleasant restaurant experiece, I quite sympathize. I used to travel a lot on business, sometimes alone, sometimes not, and SEVERAL times was in restaurants where they wouldn't even seat me. They DID seat a couple behind me in line, but refused to give a table to one person. I went to another restaurant, where waiter after waiter walked by, completely ignoring me, even though the restaurant was virtually empty. Since both of these experiences were in the same hotel, I took it up with one of the hotel managers before checking out. I don't get mad often, but I was livid. I asked if it was hotel policy to discriminate against women travelling alone. (The hotel was hosting the conference I was attending.) He was quite taken aback and I don't think he was aware that this goes on. To his credit, he did try to correct some of the other problems I pointed out.
When I've related these incidents to friends they often don't believe me and think I got it wrong, but I know it DOES happen. It's one of those things that you probably wouldn't believe if you didn't witness it yourself.
I'm sorry it happened to you. Perhaps one of us can think up a clever and funny way to deal with it next time.
