DR JoseSPiano, my mother thoroughly enjoyed
All About Us last evening; thanks once again. Fantastic seats! She was glad to have had a chance to "read up" on all the background information ahead of time. And whoever put that information together did a nice job of providing context.
I had a good time, as well. I felt the audience last night was decidedly reticent. Oh yes, they were reticent. There were many times where I was the only one laughing. Well, maybe that's my personal problem. But still, I felt they could have been much more responsive.
I can't put my finger on exactly what it is, but the show - while it has many enjoyable elements - just doesn't "flow" for me as a whole. There is still much that is worthwhile to see and hear. The "keyboard II" part, for example.
Yvette has grown stronger, I think. And it was great fun seeing the bits of staging that have evolved since the final run-through. Also, the actors have devised all kinds of subtle and not-so-subtle bits of business since that run-through, with some performances under their belts. That was great fun to notice.
I was surprised about the [lack of] a Talkback, but it would have made a very late evening very much later, indeed.
Glad to hear that David Thompson and Stro were there, but I wouldn't recognize them if they had walked up and slapped me. Which I would have deserved.
Oh, and DR MBarnum, since we finished dinner early, my mother and I had a great deal of time before the show. We inspected all of the display posters at the Playhouse, and are fairly certain that the one bearing Frances Farmer's name is not amoung the group currently being displayed.
