Certainly count me among that group. Last summer was such a fabulous TV summer with hit show after hit show breaking new ground that I'll be very unhappy to give those shows up if the strike continues much longer. THE CLOSER, of course, heads the list followed by BURN NOTICE, MAD MEN, DAMAGES, and PSYCH.

Only our candidate has a life long record as an educator - she recently retired from the district where she headed up programs for disadvantaged and special needs kids.

The other challengers are a Lawyer and a Congressional Aide.

Next I finished the two remaining bonus features on the MISS JULIE DVD.

The first was a 1966 TV interview with the director Alf Sjöberg. He talked a lot about his early career and making movies in the 1940s war years, but nothing about MISS JULIE. I guess they were hard up for bonuses to include this with this film. Better to use it if they ever bring one of his 40s films to DVD.

Secondly was an almost hourlong documentary on the 2005 stage production of MISS JULIE in Stockholm and some reminiscences by the two surviving actresses who played in the 1951 film and the 1969 made-for-TV movie. I enjoyed this, but it was much more focused on the stage production and had only a small amount to do with the film.

After I finished MISS JULIE, I put in the DVD of THE LODGER with Merle Oberon, George Sanders, and Laird Craiger.

Marvelous film and Laird was hypnotic. I'll have to look up later who dubbed the singing for Merle.

And then I watched the "making of" documentary about THE LODGER featuring everyone's favorite film commentator Dr. Drew Casper. Always a treat to see how they wedge his effusive comments into the discussion.

It's the next six weeks beginning tonight with a new adaptation of PERSUASION, then NORTHANGER ABBEY, etc. There are new versions of PERSUASION, NORTHANGER ABBEY, SENSE & SENSIBILITY, and MANSFIELD PARK, with the BBC-A&E PRIDE & PREJUDICE (Colin Firth, Jennifer Ehle, which is the best adaptation of the novel, I believe) and EMMA with Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong.

In CA, it is indeed the norm. Term Limits on legislative offices (state and city) have created a merry-go-round of political office holders. The school boards are now considered "entry level" positions for those desiring to seek higher office - they are temporary stepping stones; serving is just getting your ticket punched. If you run for School Board you will be carefully vetted by the respective political parties to be sure your "core values" are in keeping with party goals. When, in the past, I complained that a candidate's views on abortion or trade with China were not germane to running the schools, I was loundly lambasted for being disloyal to party objectives! (Note: at the time I WAS the chairman of the Local Republican Assemby Central Committee and Woody was Chairman of the local Republican Congressional Central Committee and we were both members of the County Central Committee, and I was a member of the State Central Committee.) I'm not sure the party has ever recovered from the site of an openly gay male couple running the show!
