There are something like five non-temp employees working for the organization:

1)The Supreme Boss in T.O. with her 2)Research Assistant
3) The Communications Coordinator (aka the new girl) and (4+5)two communications assistants (of which I am one)

This would have made it very weird if the flowers were sent and my name wasn't there.

I understand wanting to be nice, especially since it's a smallish group (although we are NOT on very good terms with the Toronto dynamic duo), but I still wish I had been asked. The other problem is that while the three Montrealers work generally as one group, the Coordinator is more "senior" than we assistants and the new girl is technically my supervisor. Telling her to shove it might not be the best idea.

I think that what is really eating me up is that MY 20th birthday was three weeks ago and, with references being made many times prior to it by my fellow assistant, I still got nothing - not even a "Happy Birthday" from the Coordinator. The assistant, who makes far less the coordinator not only came to my birthday dinner but also got me a card and a present.

I hate office politics.

I'm throwing in my 2¢ also. I agree with Joy. You should not have to pay for a gift that you didn't even know about. $15 may seem like small change to them, but if it's 5% of your entire pay, that's a chunk o' change! If, however, you feel that you have to pay, maybe you could explain that $15 is more than you could afford, but could contribute a lesser amount...maybe $5 or $7.

It's not for me, a simple DR spouse, to prosecute the case against you. However, I do remember you eating several MANLY portions of food at El Cholo's Mexican restaurant with my DR spouse and Susan Gordan in attendance. Not accusing, mind you, but allow me to quote from Proverbs 23:19-21:

"Hear thou, my son, and be wise. Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of whipped cream. For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags."

DR td, I agree with you about Victor Garber in GODSPELL. Hard to believe it's the same man of today. However, when I look at pictures of me in 1971, and I see the 140 pound man I was at the time, I can SORT of believe the same thing happened to both Victor and me: we grew up and filled out (in every direction).

Frankly, TCB, I'm very surprised at your take on this!

Civil Rights violations and First Amendment rights are being violated willy nilly.

Who's to say what is truly going on in this case? Doctors have been known to lie in court and out of court if there was the possibility of money. Despite the media's claims, there is a heck of a lot we DON'T know about this case.

I would have bet money that you, of all people here, would appreciate due process UNDER THE LAW and the presumption of innocence until guilt is proven.

What's next? Illegal home invasion? Wiretapping confessionals?

Of course no one condones rape and beating of ANYONE, much less children.

But the erosion of civil rights MUST be viewed with great alarm by all American citizens. Lord knows, we still haven't realized the worst from The Patriot Act yet.

I'm no fan of MJ...hate seeing his face on TV every time he feels the need for attention...and even more now when it's THE ONLY THING ON THE NEWS! My gut instinct is that "this time, they've got him"! And if he's guilty, he needs to go to prison and pay like anyone else.

I've heard a lot of talk radio about this and it's amazing what I've been hearing...and most of it spurred by the speculative yellow journalism -- a shameful practice that has become the NORM iin TV newscasts, cable news channels (Fox News is the all-time champ for below-the-belt journalism).

It's up to the Court and a jury to decide...not us by virtue of the media circus clamor and din.

The law here -- France -- would condemn a Doctor if he would not report even suspicions of child abuse!
That "taboo" has to be destroyed! Too many children have had their life ruined because "everyone looked the other way" and pretended nothing had happened!

To whom can a child turn? Their rights should be paramount and be protected. The right to freedom surely has obligations. The disclosure of the accused's name to the public and the presumption of innocence are not at issue. No-one is questioning those matters - it is the "confidentiality" breach in protecting the child - if a child is abused by its parents should not the teacher or doctor with this information not be able to take steps to protect the victim. The press does not need to know. Those of us who work with (or have worked with) children who have suffered so much from the behavior of adults certainly see the issues with different eyes.
