JRand - I may yet hold out until I can get my 1989 Ron-Pulliam-esque photo plugged in as my avatar, but no matter what, I'd enjoy getting the recropped photo.  I do like the one where vixmom is covering up a couple of my chins.

Hmmm....I don't know from Stuffy Smith (although his name seems to be a play on a cartoon strip character).

BUT if he worked on the BEULAH SHOW, he worked at the Roland Reed studios that also made ROCKY JONES SPACE RANGER, MY LITTLE MARGIE and THE GALE STORM SHOW, and SERGEANT PRESTON.

You are correct JRand55...in fact he appeared on MY LITTLE MARGIE a few times. AMOS AND ANDY was also filmed there and the cast of that show would often come over the the set of THE BEULAH SHOW.

My mom made many wonderful dishes but I never had to beg for them as she made them all the time...but the one special treat was her scrambled eggs...and when she made those for dinner it meant that she and dad were going out for the evening and I would have the house all to myself (as my little brother was likely out trashing the neighborhood).

DR Jane, here is a photo I found of Stuffy Singer when he was in his late teens or early 20s. He was still acting at this time, but just occasionally.

I went back to bed, but didn't really sleep - just contemplated things.

My mother was a GREAT cook; the list of favorite dishes is endless:

Shepard’s pie (from lamb instead of beef)
Leg o Lamb
Wild rice (still the best), often inside of squab
Cheese cake
Danish apple cake
Fresh bread
Noodle kugel
Turkey soup with the best matzo balls
Turkey & tuna salads
Custard pie
Dark fruit cake with marzipan topping (absolutely the best in the entire world)
Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting
Spaghetti sauce (a thick meat sauce)
Liver sautéed in onions & sometimes mushrooms
Fresh whole mushrooms sautéed in butter
Clam dip
Ramaki
Meatloaf
Potato Latkes (I must admit Keith’s are better)
Fried mashed potatoes topped with Lyle’s Golden Syrup
Butter cookies

These were a few of my favorite dishes, everything was good.  The only things I can remember not liking were scallops.

At this time of year I always think of my mother.  May 20th was the anniversary of her death in 1982 and June 16th would have been her birthday.  So close to Memorial Day & our anniversary the time I spent in L.A. with my father, far away from Keith who had recently begun a new job, was not one of the happier times in my life.

I find it odd, in a good way, since my father is gone I don’t miss my mother as much.  Maybe it is just time and the years & so many other losses.

Memorial Day greetings!  DH Richard has been busy today with his Honor Guard doing cemetery ceremonies and the parade here in town.  DS Rob and I attended the latter, then went to the grocery to prepare for a nice family dinner of chicken and rice and green beans.  It's very HOT here today, but they say the rain will hold off until tomorow.

TOD - one of my mother's specialties, which I have never been able to duplicate, was chicken and dumplings.  She made fluffy drop dumplings that were like clouds.  She still likes to cook liver and onions and invites me to dinner when she does.

Back from a vigorous jog - went the extra two blocks, which now means I'm four blocks ahead of where I was when I began jogging again.

When I was growing up, my mom's fried chicken was second to none. So, I'd beg for it often, and we'd have it once or twice (if I was lucky) a week.

During college and afterwards when I moved back home while I worked on my master's degree, my mom had started making turkey tetrazinni, and that became my most requested dish of hers. I could practically eat an entire casserole dish of it by myself it was so good.

What?  Aren't you supposed to do that?

Well, I suppose I shall be on my way to bruncheon at Tony Slide and Bob Gitt's home environment.  I'm bringing a Diet Coke, since they don't stock such things in the refrigerator.  I don't plan to stay long, however.  It's a really beautiful day here.

As for the Topic of the Day...

My Mom's Chinese Pot Roast - basically a Pot Roast made with soy sauce and star anise in the broth.  Sooo good, and I always put dibs on the potatoes and carrots that were on the bottom of the pot.

My parents would also make lumpia every now and then, Filipino eggrolls.  Totatlly addictive.  Ah, fried food!

When my grandmother was living with us in Seattle, she would occasionally make this rice-pudding type of breakfast dish.  With chocolate!  It was basically a sweet, rice porridge.... with chocolate!  And then you would spoon some more sugar on top of it once you scooped some into your own bowl.

But I have to admit that our favorite family meal was our bi-weeky trip to Ponderosa... And then Family Fish House during Lent - nothing like filling up on hush puppies before your meal arrived.

How do I feel?  Either like THE ENGLISH PATIENT or THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM, depending on whether or not I have visited Dr. Vicodin.  But, seriosuly, most of the time I feel better and better.

And it's nice to see that you still have your very own sense of humor!  That will serve you well during your recovery (and physical therapy?)

-A tour of a currently running Broadway show.
-A tour of another currently Broadway show.
-A production of Follies where I'd have a 24-piece orchestra at my "disposal".  The money sort of sucks, but, for a full orchestra, I'm considering it.
-Some work with Walt DisneyWorld on a new show going up in the Park.

There were also a few calls and e-mails from DC for some fill-in work this summer.  I'm "tempted", but I do want to stay up here in the City for now.  We'll see.  But for now, I'm going to take advantage of my new-found free-time, and get more of my apartment in order, and also catch up on some Broadway shows.  -I want to make sure I'm fully "informed" before I go to the Tonys on June 11.
