Well, since our official early-morning page turner, DR Ben, is away...

I've spent a lifetime trying to immunize myself from the effects of that "comether look" you've all heard about!

It's Monday.

I'm at work.

The computer network is unrelentlessly sluggish this morning.

It's very tiresome.

I had myself a Jake Gyllenhall movie fest yesterday as I watched two movies on DVD I had never seen before:

"Jarhead"

"Donnie Darko"

I can recommend both, although I think "Donnie Darko" was the one I preferred most.

We had some significant cooling in Oakland over the past day and half.  Yesterday was nice, but today may be even nicer.

The air this morning has the sort of chill on it that I relate to water taken out of the refrigerator just before it gets really "cold."

GOod morning!

More of the same weather-wise for us. Again, a cool morning and I have windows and doors opened to catch the cool and hopefully trap it inside to last another day without turning on the A/C.

I am looking forward to another new episode of THE CLOSER tonight. The terrific Frances Sternhagen guests this week as Brenda's mother, and that should be loads of fun!

And then since it is Monday, I had to move my car...  And when I got out there, it looked like someone had broken in.  The glove compartment was open... The contents of the glove compartment were all over the front seat... My back trunk area was "open"... My "emergency box" was open, and all of it's contents were all over the back seat...  However...

Since I had nothing "good" to steal in the car, nothing was stolen.  And from what I could tell, nothing was taken from the glove compartment.  Even the spare change was untouched.  My cassette case and cassettes were still there.  My box of Kleenex.  My window scraper.  My sun shield.  ...It was all still in the car.

Best of all(?), there was no broken window, no broken glass.  It looks like they just jimmie'd the locks and went in.  -And, alas, there is the possibility that I may have left one of the locks up, but since the locks that were up were on the passenger side of the car.  And while I was cleaning things up, I heard another guy on the street saying that one of his mirrors had been taken off his car.  Again, the same thing - no broken glass, no damage.  Whoever did what they did had tools and knew what they were doing.

Such a polite break-in artist. I always thought, hey if you gotta be a burglar, I can understand that, but if you don't find anything, don't just wreck stuff. It sounds like this thief is living by that code.

-Back from moving my car back... And time for a couple of addendums...

As for the roomie we thought was missing... Yes, we called her cell-phone, but we kept getting that "out of range" message, and it would not kick into voicemail.

And as for my car - At least the contents of my glove compartment are now in order.  I threw out all the napkins I had been hoarding from Starbucks, McDonald's, 7-11, etc...  I even through out some sporks I've had in there for a couple of years.  I checked all the car documents and receipts that were in there, and they were all in place too.  Again, nothing was taken.  And after talking with some of my neighbors, they're guessing that since that school is out, the "kids" are looking for something to do.  And since most of my neighbors like sitting outside on their stoops, they're going to keep a "better" eye on things and everyone's cars.  :)

Sorry about the break-in, DR Jose. Glad there was no destruction. Still, not a great way to start the week.

I don't care for oysters.  I would much rather the world be my prime rib.

Actually, after the initial "shock", the whole incident had me laughing.  -And it's also a reminder, that I need to make a trip back down to Virginia and sell the car to my mechanic.  Soon!

I am going to have pizza today for the first time in 2006. (At least, I can't remember having it at all during this calendar year thus far.)

Yep, if I were a New Yorker, I would bother with a car. Sell it while there's still a car!  :D
