THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

Well, you've read the notes, the notes never slept, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - unlike the city, all they do is sleep.

It was sooooooo great seeing DRs Tom and Colin (a.k.a. The Boys from Down Under) again!  And it was also great getting together with DRs Ben, Ant and Rodzinksi.

Various forms of media were traded.  Stories were shared.  And good cheer abounded.  It really was a very enjoyable gathering.  It's just too bad that Tom and Colin had to get back to their hotel to rest up for the start of the rest of their trip early(!) tomorrow morning.  But again, it was great seeing them again.

Hmmm... I have been thinking of taking a nice vacation in January... And since I've been wanting to get back to Australia...

And a very big Thank You to DR FJL and his ever-lovin' Skip for hosting and cooking dinner tonight. And, of course, thanks should also be extended to Toby and Dylan who were on their best behavior tonight.  As were our esteemed bk and DR elmore.

*And it appears that I have recently gained the weight that bk has lost over the past couple of months.  I did take some pics at the brunch gathering, but I may have to do some Photoshopping before I post them.  -Alas, I was also wearing horizontal stripes today, so.. Ah, well.  ;)

Seriously...  I know that I have put on about three to four pounds - depending on the day and time of day - during my stay in DC the past couple of weeks, and it's kind of "amazing" just how much those three to four pounds show up in my face.  -Well, at least I[/b] notice it.  Now I just need to put the two new pairs of running shoes, the rollerblades and my soon-to-be-purchased bicycled to good use.  -It's all a part of "The Plan" - Not only do I hope to finally go through and sort and purge all my "boxes-o-stuff" over the next couple of week - basically shed all that stuff, I hope to shed a few more pounds before 2007.  Nothing like an early New Year's Resolution.

Well... It has been a very long and full day for me... And the prosecco and rosé with dinner have made me a little sleepy.  *And I have to say that that rosé was a particularly fine wine - surprisingly not too sweet or fruity (at least surprising to me), and it had a clean, crisp finish with a slight mineral note.   -Boy, I've been reading too much Wine Spectator.  ;)  In any case...

Goodnight.

Tell me this won't scare the horses:

Rosie Goes Bare

Quote
Nudity is much more acceptable on television these days. But how far is too far? Well, "Nip/Tuck" is pushing those limits with every new episode.

Last week's episode featured guest star Mario Lopez in a nude shower scene, revealing his back side. Rosie O'Donnell will be the next to make an appearance this season, showing a little skin of her own. Apparently it wasn't originally in the script, but when a topless moment for Rosie occurred, the minds behind the show loved it and decided to leave it in.

This came from Woody's Dad:

A man was walking home alone late one foggy night,

when behind him he hears:

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Walking faster, he looks back and through the fog he  makes out the image of an upright casket banging its way down the middle of the street toward him.

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

Terrified, the man begins to run toward his home,  the casket bouncing quickly behind him

FASTER...

FASTER...

BUMP...

BUMP...

BUMP...

He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the door, rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him.

However, the casket crashes through his door, with the lid of the casket clapping

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

clappity-BUMP...

on his heels, the terrified man runs.

Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, the man locks himself in.  His heart is pounding; his head is reeling; his breath is coming in sobbing gasps.

With a loud CRASH the casket breaks down the door.

Bumping and clapping toward him.

The man screams and reaches for something, anything,
but all he can find is a bottle of cough syrup!

Desperate, he throws the cough syrup at the casket...

and,

(hopefully you're really ready for this!!!)

RIP - SIR MALCOLM ARNOLD

Quote
LONDON - Sir Malcolm Arnold, the first British composer to win an Academy Award, died Saturday at the age of 84 after a short illness, his companion said.

Arnold, who won an Oscar for the music to "Bridge on the River Kwai" in 1958, died in the hospital in Norfolk county, eastern England, after suffering from a chest infection, said Anthony Day, Arnold's companion for 23 years.
...
Arnold composed more than 130 films scores, including "The Inn of the Sixth Happiness," for which he received one of Britain's prestigious Ivor Novello awards in 1958.

Arnold also composed nine symphonies, seven ballets, two operas, a musical and more than 20 concertos. He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, or CBE, in 1970.

Arnold died on the day his ballet "The Three Musketeers" premiered at the Alhambra Theatre in the northern English city of Bradford. The performance went ahead Saturday night as planned and was dedicated to him.

Cellist Julian Lloyd Webber said Arnold never received the credit he deserved.

"I think he was a very, very great composer but uneven in his output," he said. "Because he had humor in his music, he was never fully appreciated by the classical establishment."

Arnold is survived by two sons and a daughter.

And, in the Fox listings, this seems bizarre:

Quote
VENUS: The cozy life of an aging actor (Peter O'Toole) is set awry by the arrival of his grandniece. Vanessa Redgrave co-stars.

Vanessa Redgrave as Peter O'Toole's grandniece?  Can you imagine the prosthetics involved in that makeup?

There has been no trouble with our smoke detectors since yesterday morning, which suggests that it isn't the batteries that caused the problem, but particulate matter in the air.

I'm blaming Fletcher, and his pooting (releasing gaseous emissions in an undisapplined manner).

And finally, before I head off to work, I should note that the first ep of Heroes is airing at 9 PM tonight.

The second ep airs tomorrow, at 8 PM.

It's the second ep that is causing a problem here in Rehoboth Beach, because der Brucer has already booked NCIS and House for watching/recording at that hour.

We could, of course, record something on Tuesday on another set, but that would mean not recording it as HDTV (a new der Brucer addiction - I'm blaming DR Matt), and obviously he cannot be expected to watch anything that isn't in HDTV.

Ah, the problems we live with.   :-\

Maybe if he watches the first ep of Heroes tonight...

That, and I've got to figure out what's for dinner.

Good morning all. I had disturbing dreams and woke up not feeling well at all.  I had a little breakfast and waiting to see if I can rally to go to the office.  Since I have my work here, I may call in sick and work at home today. I really don't want to get sick before the trip!
