Tuesday greetings!  It's a very soggy day here in SW Ohio.

TOD - There used to be a restaurant in Cincinnati that named their sandwiches after streets and other city place names.  I always ordered the Erkenbreckerburger, because I liked saying it.

"Brighton Rock" is, among other things, a delicious candy confection--a hard stick about a foot long with a center the has a design running through the stick. The center has an indescribable texture. Yum! Brighton is the only place I know of where you can buy the edible Brighton Rock.

I've been to a number of sites to which I contribute...sometimes daily, oftentimes weekly, and sometimes just rarely.

I can honestly say I find them wastelands lately.

I despair, I declare!

Have you ever read that hilarious Onion article about the U.N. efforts to airlift vowels into eastern European countries?

You can READ IT HERE!

The article concludes with:

Quote
The American airdrop represents the largest deployment of any letter to a foreign country since 1984. During the summer of that year, the U.S. shipped 92,000 consonants to Ethiopia, providing cities like Ouaououa, Eaoiiuae and Aao with vital, life-giving supplies of L's S's and T's. The consonant-relief effort failed, however, when vast quantities of the letters were intercepted and horded by violent, gun-toting warlords.

Don't tell her I told y'all, but Betsy has her own "mispronouncing" language consisting mostly of short vowels in long vowel words.  Amazingly, she never "mispronounced" in her private language when she was on the air.  ;)

DR MattH did STUDIO 60 get picked up yet for a full season? Or did it start out with one?

I think the only new shows i'm watching this year are: UGLY BETTY, HEROES, BROTHERS & SISTERS, STUDIO 60 and MEN IN TREES.  The first two are my favorites.

Lovely new avatars from DRs DAKOTACELT and EDISAURUS....it is a Do Mi Do day, as DR EDISAURUS proclaimed last weekend.

MONSTER ON THE CAMPUS has a beautiful leading lady with a very strange accent and lots of beautiful 1958 Chrysler Corp. cars - AND Troy Donahue.  But what with the monster and all, I am NOT suprised MR BK is thinking about the platypus.

One of my favorite words was used a lot in MAD magazine, usually as a proper name:

Potzrbie.  I am not sure how it is pronounced.

Berserk is another one I mentioned last week.

Here's a site that's helpful:

Beastly Mispronunciations

I chuckled at:

Quote
In regard to “You say potato, I say potahto” there is a joke that when this unusual song was sung in English theater auditions, nobody got it because the singers invariably sang it: “You say potahto and I say potahto, You say tomahto and I say tomahto….” But when I was at the University of Texas, we had our own linguistic joke that went like this: “You say potato and I say pertayter, You say tomato and I say termayter!”

I want one!!

But instead I followed Cillaliz's recommendation and bought myself a Toro leaf blower/vacuum/mulcher. Now I won't dislike the large trees in my front and back yard any longer.

My new turntable software (I think it's the software) is already malfuntioning - the ION customer service is dreadful - they just blame everything on whatever their script says.  It's the USB cord (I tried another, same prob), it's the software, it's whatever.  Vinnie is supposed to come over at some point to see if we can fix it or reload the software.  It's only recording one side of the stereo track.  It certainly worked perfectly for four albums.

...let me offer the word “phlegm.”

My reply:

There is a region called Phlanders (medieval county along coast of what is now Belgium and adjacent parts of France & Netherlands, capital Lille) whose inhabitants are called the Phlegmish. A single inhabitant is therefore a Phlegm.
