Next, I put in A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING. Not nearly as good as the classic Peanuts cartoons from the 1960s (this was made in 1973), but I have to admit after seeing it as many times as I have, it has kind of grown on me. The DVD transfer isn't as good as the one for GREAT PUMPKIN.

Speaking of boxing, whatever happened to that musical version of ROCKY that was being talked about a while back?

With the mail delivery came my second Deep Discount DVD order which contained, among many items, FORBIDDEN PLANET. Naturally, it went immediately into my player, and I enjoyed seeing it look so much cleaner and sharper than the previous disc. And the sound was so much more robust, too. VERY effective with this new Dolby 5.1 mix.

I'm not shopping. I think I will only buy a half dozen gifts this year, if that many. I was at the office today.

Just googled.  Apparently, Thomas Meehan was working with Stallone on the book for the ROCKY musical, according to a Variety article in 2003.

I put in the second disc not to watch THE INVISIBLE BOY but to watch the special features for FORBIDDEN PLANET. I started with the documentary on the making of the film. Very enjoyable, and it was nice to see several of the actors from the film talking about their experiences with it. In fact, I would have preferred more with the actors and much less talking from the critical heads hired to talk about how innovative the film was.

Next I watched the Robby the Robot documentary. Fascinating information on his creation, and nice to see his designer is still with us.

Finally, I started WATCH THE SKIES, the included documentary on the sci-fi films of the 1950s. I only got about 12 minutes in, so I'll finish it this evening when I go back downstairs.

No shopping for me, either.  I'm still at work at the library - we have a lot of students in today.

Also in my Deep Discount DVD box was the last set of SUPERMAN episodes from Season 5 and 6. I'll watch those tonight before and after GHOST WHISPERER. And I'll toss all of those taped off TV SUPERMAN episodes since now I have the entire series on DVD.

Skip and Mary Jay's shopping venture basically consisted of Trader Joe's downtown.  Lots of great food, including some special healthy treats for Toby and Dylan which they seem to be enjoying despite their being healthy.

I'm getting an early start on the kitchen mopping, and then back to DVD watching.

So sad about Betty Comden and Anita O'Day.

The older I get, the more my icons die out.

Twas ever thus, I suppose!

I'm going out to dinner tonight with an old friend.  We're having Indian cuisine.

FYI....Trader Joe's has "killer" Peppermint Tea (house brand).  I bought some earlier this year.  Since then, I've tried other brands and NONE even touches Trader Joe's for flavor.

And on the subject of tea, if you like that sort of thing you could do much worse than Harry and David's Holiday Spice Tea.  It's a very tasty blend of flavors!

Somehow, the holiday spirit seems to be creeping up on me.  I'm not "there" yet....but it has potential.

It's a coolish day here in Oakland.  I've been used to going around in shirt sleeves, but today there is a chill that calls for a jacket.

It's a perfect day for Irish coffee!

I was not shopping today.  I went into work for about 4 and a half hours.  Caught up on some paperwork, hung out with the kids who didn't go home for the weekend.
