One Christmas memory I have is of the year I was single, between husbands.

And, DR edi, how many "betweens" have there been? ;)

Good morning!

Beautiful, gorgeous, heavenly, highs in the 70s. This is December?

BeeGee seems a little more like his "normal" self (such as that is, LOL) today.  We're still on pins and needles wondering if this weird bloat will recur as suddenly as it did yesterday.  Hopefully not.  We're going to get the stomach attaching surgery done probably next week.  Thanks to all for their good wishes.

Christmas memories:  We did Christmas, so sue me.  ;)  I remember one year my Dad was gone on Army business and my mom, sisters and I went out, bought a tree, got it up and completely decorated.  We were almost done, putting our traditional angel (named Angie--an antique thing my Mom had had since her birth) on the top when the entire tree fell over, with all the glass ornaments shattering.  Of course, just at that moment, my Dad walked through the front door.   ::)

Maybe I saw it wrong, but I thought the murderer was the suspect's parole officer, wasn't it; not the gas meter reader? The meter reader saw a figure inside bashing in the apartment manager, and it was revealed to be the parole officer who was never accused of the crime.

Or maybe I just saw it wrong.

We finished the Christie Boxed Set last night with the pretty abominable Sparkling Cyanide, which was another version of the Suchet Poirot Yellow Iris.  Does anyone know if the Poirot appropriated (or should that be apPOIROTiated) a non-Poirot story, or did Sparkling Cyanide remove Poirot in its rewrite?

From the serious to the seriously tacky, I see that HarperCollins, presumably fed up over the scandal of her last two publishing efforts - OJ's "If I Did It" and the Mickey Mantle novel - has sacked  editor Judith Regan.  Someone's showing good taste in this era always surprises me.

Yeah, but who's firing Rupert Murdoch...the actual monster behind the O.J. crap...and Fox News...and every other media mediocrity...?

Yay! Good shirt news!

I didn't realize that you were home for a funeral, though. I somehow missed that bit of information. I thought you were just going home for the holidays.

I like grits, especially cheese grits. Yummmm. Think I'll go have some now!

Nope, this was my annual pilgrimage to SC.  The funeral is incidental.

I've had many fine Christmases, so it's tough to single out a specific Christmas "memory" that stands above others.  I still remember being a kid and waking up way too early....sneaking down the hall to see if Santa had been there...and then nearly peeing my PJs as I beheld a bounty of beauteous things.  And then my mother said, "It's too early.  Go back to bed."  So I did, and I just lay there, occasionally turning and deliberately squeaking the mattress springs, until it was apparent I would not be sleeping any more.

So-o-o-o-o-o exciting.

But I've had many gratifying Christmases as an adult, more often than not slightly tarnished by some relative or another who had some bug or other up their butts.

As a choir girl, I think I'm obliged to say that my favorite Christmas tunage are P.D.Q. Bach's Consort of Christmas Carols.

But I really do adore Peter Schickele...in that I love singing the PDQB choral pieces & I learned more theory from his radio show than I did from my HS choir director kind of way.

Good morning all. Great news that BeeGee is feeling better.  Continuned vibes that all stays well through the surgery.

I must do many things today...I must find my address book so I can try to get cards out.  I still haven't decided if I'll make them or buy them, so I must do that as well.  I'd like to hit some of the sales to see if I can find some work clothes.

Sometime this weekend I must spend a few hours at the office.  Between being in pain and running around on my new case I've got some things backed up that should be attended to before Monday.

Sometime this weekend I'm planning to watch The Beales of Grey Gardens. It's the movie that was recently released made from the footage that wasn't used in Grey Gardens.

I'm up, I'm up, and am scurrying to get ready and get out of here before she of the Evil Eye gives me the Evil Eye.

Edisaurus: The Grand is, I believe, downtown and should be avoided.  The Music Hall is in Beverly Hills - haven't been there in years, so I don't know what shape it's in, but it's one of their most known theaters, so I'd go for that, and I will, of course, be there for the showing.

So SPRING AWAKENING seems to be being hailed as the second coming among musicals.  I did like it quite a lot, although I thought it was uncomfortably graphic at times, but who knew that crossing songs being almost entirely internal monologues (which frankly seems to me to be easier to write than usual musical material) with rock concert staging complete with hand-held microphones - while all extremely exciting and entertaining - would be hailed as revolutionary musical theater?  Is it just that it's music that's accepted as good music (and it is IMHO) and staging that's wildly entertaining (and it is IMHO), even though the techniques have been around forever?  I daresay it's not new, it's just good, but certainly not new.

Today when I purchased a white feather boa to be used as a prop in tomorrow's Christmas concert, the clerk asked me if I was going out tonight. I told her yes, that I would be partying with my feather boa and leopard-spotted tights. She looked horrified.

Elmore-I had a few Christmas memories similar to yours.  Fortunately before those I had many years of fun, happy memories.  I was also sick during a number of Christmases.  I remember the year I wasn’t permitted downstairs at all.  I was very upset my family opened my gifts to them that were under the tree.  I felt they didn’t have the right to do that and should have waited to open them in front of me.  I saved all year to purchase my gifts and half the fun of gift giving was watching the expressions of joy when the “perfect” gift was opened.

My best Christmases were when the boys were little.

Off hand I can't think of a particular Christmas that stands out, however as far as I can recall every Christmas has been a wonderful Christmas.
