Good morning!

Beautiful but very, very cold, and it's only going to get colder. We may even get snow on Thursday!

DR DtM - tap dancing is easy compared to driving and chess.

That sounds like the first line of a song if I ever heard one!

I'll add myself to the chess group. My brother tried to teach me when we were teenagers, and I ended up having him hit me over the head with the board because I just could NOT remember which directions the pieces moved. I could learn lines in plays and lyrics in songs easily, but I couldn't learn what to do with a bishop or rook. Argh!

But drive a Hummer
That's something I could never do
It's such a bummer
'Cause I'd drive it straight to you

As for math problems, I would have been a member of that group had my mother not been an algebra teacher.

I had a HORRIBLE Algebra I teacher, and I came home every day and my mother retaught me the day's lesson. Had I not gotten that firm foundation from her, the rest of high school and college math classes would have been a nightmare. However, due to her and her alone, I never had a problem making A's in all my advanced classes. In fact, I took trig in eleventh grade, and I remember one night, my mom came into the dinign room and looked over my shoulder while I was doing my trig homework. She said that the stuff I was doing was what she did her junior year in college. That made me feel like a million bucks.

I have been driving since I was 17.  I have only had to parallel park twice in my life!

Yes, I agree that NBC promos give too much away in advertising the upcoming episodes. I don't look at previews if I can help it, but it's hard to advoid the promos that NBC airs endlessly during commercial breaks for all of their upcoming shows.

I knew George Takei was going to play Hiro's father. I just had no idea that's who the Big Boss was.

I've never learned how to tap dance.  I would love to be able to do a basic step or two.

Oh, DR DAN (the MAN), do take a tap class. It's soooo much fun! And VERY aerobic.

I have last night's STUDIO 60 to watch today, and then, depending on mail delivery, I'll put in THE LEFT HANDED GUN.

The two NBC LAW & ORDER shows appear to be reruns tonight, but BOSTON LEGAL is new, and so is VERONICA MARS. Of course, IDOL has more auditions tonight, this time from Birmingham.

Unfortunately for me, my local CW affiliate is preempting VERONICA MARS for an ACC basketball game. They are showing VERONICA at 11:35, but it won't be in high definition. Drat!

When I was in college I had the worst time with statistics. We had three textbooks and they seemed to me to be contradictory. I struggled and struggled and finally thought I'd reconciled it, only to learn that one of the textbooks was INCORRECT!!  How do teachers/schools get away with this? Surely they could have let us know. Anyway, I never could get straightened out after that. Once I learn something wrong it's difficult to unlearn.

End of rant.

I agree about the SUVs and the danger they pose on the highway but also in parking lots. I'm ALWAYS fearful when I have to park next to one that when I leave and am trying to back out, my little car will be obscured by the big SUV and I won't be able to see what's coming until it's too late and thus someone will run into me.

I understand that for families, they're great. My friend John has one, and when his entire family and I go out to dinner together, they're very convenient to pile everyone into. But otherwise, I do find them a problem otherwise.

Many years ago a mechanic friend tried to teach me how automotive engines worked. I wanted to learn, but could never grasp it. Mechanical ability still isn't one of my strong points.

Jrand - When the Arts Equity Theatre did Herringbone last month in Vancouver WA (not with BD Wong in Vancouver), the pants did indeed match the jacket.  A little ratty, though, as seen in this photo (second one down):

TOD:

Math...still don't get it and my brain freezes up at the mere mention of anything to do with numbers.

Learning a foreign language. I have tried Japanese, German, Spanish, and Hindi....it is fun to learn (or try to learn), but not easy...and it always irritates me when people insist that immigrants learn English, as if it is something they should learn overnight and feel comfortable speaking right away.

Did I miss it, or did no one already point out that AVID spelled backwards is DIVA?

Maybe that's why I feel such a kinship with it!

Actually, my DH will probably soon own his own DIVA. The letters stand for words like Digital, Audio, Interface, stuff like that.

He's going to work on a great documentary this summer, by one of my favorite doc makers. (He made "Standing in the Shoadows of Motwn.) They shot some of it last year and it looks like the director will be able to secure the funding and have a very nice shoot!
