The whole thing is so stupid. If the Boston police hadn't investigated it, people would be up in arms. The CN is stupid for pulling a stunt like that. Sure, they are getting publicity, but what a stupid way to go about doing it. These earthlings are STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!

At the risk of sounding like Cillaliz - I suspect that how the devices would be perceived in today's "terror-phobic" environment never crossed anybody's mind. If that stunt had been pulled in 2000, it would have gotten great press.

They may look like S&V extras but they sound like idiots, if you heard their "press conference."

Still...bombings...Massacheusetts...2 men picked up...wonder if we're missing a cross-promotion opportunity?

I thought these guys were hilarious at their press conference, especially the way they were pissing off the news reporters because they kept talking about their hair (they repeatedly stated that their lawyer told them not to talk about the charges, but they would only answer questions about their hair.)

Personally, I think this stunt has been blown up all out of proportion.  And even in this day and age, what idiot would mistake a sign with lights for a terrorist device?  If it were a bomb of some kind, would whoever made it really have wanted to call attention to it by putting lights all over it?  It's like something the Joker or Riddler would do in a Batman comic--plant a bomb with a big "?" or a smiling jester face painted on it.

I think this is an indication that the terrorist have won--we live in fear.

Like sitting in a plane trying to light your shoe-bomb with a match?

If I were a Bostonian, I'd appreicate the police's "better save than sorry" attitude.

The sad truth is that the proximate reality of terrorism has changed our perceptions.

After a four month run, are you sure they are losing money?

der Brucer

After a four month run of papering houses, half-price tickets, and not full houses, sure I think they're losing money.  Like most off-B'way shows, they will lose their entire investment.

I'm wondering if the CN guys could use a "reasonable person" standard to say that 8 other cities didn't react the way Boston did, so that your typical "reasonable city personnel" would not have reacted that way.

Confused, I am, by this term "CN guys".

Is that a short variation of "Cable News Network"?  And do those guys represent CNN or a company hired by Turner Broadcasting?

"We live in fear"? Some more than others. Some were always quite fearful--now they have something to blame. I concur with your other point--that there's a lot of stupidity mixed in. We spend millions of dollars to fight terrorism--I'm not quarreling with that--but how does one fight stupidity?
