DR Jose - I've put both Zen Palate and Hampton Chutney Co. on my list for our next NYC visit (June 28 - I can't wait!).

I need travel advcie:  What's the best way (other than by car :) ) to take a day trip form Manhattan to Atlantic City?  Most likely on a Thursday.  I know buses go from the Port Authority, but I hear that some hotels offer special deals - anyone know if that's true?

I have also done some cleaning and purging today - on my computer.  I'd been getting the famous Mac "spinning beach ball of death" a lot lately.  So I've emptied the trash, cleared the cache, and performed a couple of other maneuvers that seem to have helped quite a bit.

Now, I need to do some of the paper purging, too.

It may also be Elinor Eastlake, but for your sake, I pray it isn't!

Wasn't "sorting and purging and bursting with love" a song on THE ODD COUPLE TV show?

If not, it should have been!  It's got a wonderful internal rhythm to it!

DR FJL, I know there's a train that travels several times a day to AC out of Philly, but I'm not sure where to make the connection.

Oh, and the gelato and granita from Grom.

*Although, I'm going to have to monitor how their front end is shaping up.  It all seems to still be a bit haphazard and disorganized behind the counter.  Even when the lines are short - just two or three people deep - it can take about 10 minutes to get your order in.  And then since they're using paddles instead of scoops, the serving portions tend be a bit inconsistent.  -And when you're paying just under $5.00 for a small, well...  *Although, it looks like a lot of people have caught on, and have started to get the hand-packed Take Home packs.  For the price of a Large cup/cone, you can get a small Take Home container that equal to about four large "paddles".  And the medium Take Home pack is one quart!  Alas, all that hand-packing also slows up the line.

Additionally, the counter basically come right to the sidewalk, so the waiting area is also a bit funky.  Hopefully, as the staff settles into a routine, they should be ready for the undoubtedly longer lines as the temps warm up.

Only song I recall from THE ODD COUPLE is:

Once there was a man named Oscar.
Oscar!  Oscar!  Oscar!
And he be-trayed his best friend!
Oscar!  Oscar!  Oscar!

A bunch of the casinos and some travel companies offer daily junkets.   For a certain amount of money you get round trip bus fare plus some money/tokens for gambling.  Most of them run on the weekend, but I'm sure there are some mid-week deals out there.  If you still have a copy of yesterday's Times, there are always ads in the Travel section.  *And many of the tour operators offer cocktails in transit too.  ;)

DR FJL, here's the schedule of the Philly/Atlantic City train.  It runs out of 30th Street Station.

I watched CAPTAIN FROM CASTILLE last night....this is the movie that my parents saw on their FIRST date.

I listened to some of Mr Nick Redman's commentary, but then I got interested in the movie and had to turn it off.  Mr Redman certainly has a very nice accent.  Mr Rudy Behlmer also had some nice things to say.

BUT - the featurette on the this DVD was titled Tyrone Power's Leading Ladies with some nice CLIPS...but the writer claimed that Power was under contract to FOX for "30 years".....so he either signed that contract in 1928 when he was 14...OR he was under contract to FOX for ten years after he bit the dust....

Featurette was written by someone named Bryan Cooper.

CAPTAIN FROM CASTILLE?  Didn't they sing "Muskrat Love?"
