Good morning, all! I have little to report this morning; I have more charts to work on, we're still waiting for a signed lease, we're still waiting to move, and my dance card is filling up with other matters.
A friend sent me an email this morning that tenor Jerry Hadley shot himself yesterday but I can find nothing in the news. Anyone hear anything?
DR Michael S, when the Music Theatre of Lincoln Center did SOUTH PACIFIC in the 1960s, I would guess the production, as well as the other shows they did under Richard Rodger's title as producer, was considered similar to the limited City Center runs of musicals. The productions were specifically summer runs in the New York State Theatre during breaks for the City Opera and City Ballet.
DT tomovoz, I too am a fan of DEADWOOD.
There is an early 1950s British film of ALICE by puppeteer Lou Bunin, with Carol Marsh as Alice. It was suppressed by Disney so it would not compete with their animated version. I have it on VHS, and it's interesting. My problem with the John Barry score for the 1970s British film is a lot of Don Black's lyrics: when Alice sings in "I've Never Been This Far Before" the world is like a birthday cake/and I mean to take a piece before I wake, she doesn't know she's asleep!
Oy. Dumbass lyricists. He should work for Sir Andrew.
