Well, you've read the notes, the notes were catchy, and now it is time for you to post until the catchy cows come home - they're currently touring the world looking for Brylcreem.

And here is an Unseemly Trivia Contest question:

This season produced one huge musical hit, several other musical hits, a lot of musical misses, a few hit plays, and a lot of flop plays - in other words, business as usual.  This particular flop play at least eked out a modest run, even though it was never heard of again.  It was by a well-known and popular playright, who was also a well-known and popular screenwriter of some classic films.  It was directed by a well-known director.  In the cast was an actor who'd recently appeared in a classic musical and who would go on to play a memorable role in a film version of a Broadway musical.  Also an actor who would go on to have a diverse film career, appearing in several classic motion pictures.  Also in its cast were a male and female actor who would have an interesting connection years later.  Also in the cast was a young actress who would have a semi-successful career in movies (she appeared in at least one classic by a hugely popular film director), and would then star in a beloved television series opposite a beloved television star.  Finally, another actor in the cast would have legendary status doing something other than acting.

So:

Name the play and its author.

Name the play's well-known director.

Name the actor who'd recently appeared in a classic musical and  would go on to play a memorable role in a film version of a Broadway musical and name his role in that film.

Name the actor who would go on to have a diverse career in films, and name at least two of the classic films he appeared in.

Name the male and female actors who would go on to have a very interesting connection many years later.

Name the young actress who would go on to a semi-successful film career, name her classic film and the hugely successful director, and name her beloved television series and her co-star.

Name the actor who would achieve legendary status for something other than acting.

Good luck to one and all and also all and one.  Remember, do not post your answers to the site.  Send them to me at bruce@haineshisway.com.

Let's just see if any of our regular smarty-pants get THIS one!

You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth.....
(Bucky Beaver?)

Brylcreem was a well known jingle here too.

I still remember the sickly scent of Californian Poppy hairoil.
Old spice - no thank you.

(But then I do not care for perfumes and scents much at all - especially if they are "heavy").

Marlboro of course!  (The Julie London version - filter, flavoor (flavour), flip-top box.)

DR Julie - I assuming that's the same Wendy Macleod that wrote the play [later film] The House of Yes?

She's the sister of one of my best friends from high school.

One of today's projects is to install the latest upgrade of Finale music notation software [Finale 2008] on the home PC and laptop.  My DH uses it for work.  One of these days, I'd like to ramp up the learning curve myself.

Well.....sometimes the best thing to say is Nothing At All.  Vickie, my friend with whom DR JOSE is somewhat familiar, taught me that as a director.

And last night.....I just sat down with the director and we started going through the music.  When we needed something, we fixed it.  When it worked, we did it again to reinforce it.

Yesterday afternoon, the set was built....to show specifications.  Some minor adjustments had to be made, and were done.

Hopefully Monday - first day off book will go as smoothly.

Also had a SUNSHINE BOYS blocking rehearsal...all my scenes except the "Doctor Sketch".....

I bought an autographed and framed card and 4x6 photo from the Boston Pops....and now thanks to a post from DR GINNY, I can read the signature - it is Keith Lockhart.

Small world - yes indeed, one and the same.  So I assume you grew up knowing Wendy?  Did she always want to be a playwright even as a kid?

Saturday morning greetings!  Today is the first day of my July/August vacation  8)  It's a puttering and packing day before DH Richard and I leave for his summer week at the seminary in Wisconsin.  My bookbag is packed and I'm looking forward to lots of time to read.

Good morning, all!  DR FiFilepew, when are you going to materialize and say hello? I hope you're not the infamous Fat Conductor of Limitless Ego and Limited Talent?

Back to Toyland for another round of edits today and little beyond that.  Because of the whole office megillah, I've been pondering a time to see THE PEOPLE VS MONA by my friend Jim Wand, so I got a ticket for this evening.  I'm looking forward to it.

I had a nice email from Rodney Gilfry, who just played Joe in the Ravinia Festival concert of THE MOST HAPPY FELLA with George Hearn.  He'll be in Manhattan in early September, so I may drag him down to a rehearsal for "The Brain."  He thinks the CD is a hoot.

DR FJL, why didn't you post this site?
