Saturday morning greetings!

My sympathies to all DRs who have to be at work today.   :(

That would be me - for the third Saturday in a row  :P

It's an all information-waitressing day and we're very short-staffed.

When I do get everything done it will be so much nicer.  Instead of this old computer cart, I will have a nice desk that I can sit at and be comfortable.

I've hated how I have to hunch over the keyboard to type.  I bought a special keyboard platform like I have at work that I can pull out and adjust to whatever height I need it be.

I'll be in high cotton when it's all done.  :)

I have that short problem as well.  That's part of the computer cart problem.  When I adjust my chair so it's high enough to be comfortable to type, my feet dangle with no place to put them.

When I put the chair down so I can touch the ground, I have to hunch over the keyboard--and there's no place to put my feet because the cart is right there in front of me.

Don't ask me why I've put up with it all these years.  I guess I'm a little slow as well as short.  ;)

I bought a new computer desk that I will have to assemble (Joy)

My Dear Wife is not a computer desk you have to assemble.  There should be no confusion about this.

Peter Link’s The River is the worst musical I can recall.  Religious texts, no structure, no dialogue, no story, no characters, an abstract set.  Need I say more?

The River was worse, I felt, than my previous least favorite, The 1940s Radio Hour.  Today, I’d probably find merit in it.  But in those days, I was appalled by the idea that people thought they could build a musical out of pre-existing hit songs from an earlier decade.  All narrative theatre is about story-telling.  When you exclude songwriters from the process, your story-telling is bound to suffer.  Looking at other DRs worst-ever choices, I see many where the songwriters were uninvolved or six feet under.

Finally met my musical director yesterday (he’d been M.D.-ing at the Muni) and found him charming, polite, on the quiet side, and my age.  Hard to believe rehearsals are 12 days away.  Glad to see they're underway on the now completely-cast Brain From Planet X.

Good morning!

We're having a cool spell and only getting to 97 today. Fall must be right around the corner - NOT!

I hate summer.

I've seen a lot of worsts in my life on stage, backstage, and in the audience:

Worst Broadway show - I HAD A BALL. I've talked about this before, but as a teen who liked mostly everything I saw, this was just the pits. SO disappointing considering the cast.

(Runner-up would have to be HIGH SOCIETY which was a superb community theater show charging Broadway prices and with Broadway talent in the leads.)

Worst community theater production with me as an audience member:

CAROUSEL. The Billy couldn't sustain a single note of the score and was very effete. Not what you want for Billy.

Neither Carrie nor Mr. Snow could sing at all.

The sets were only semi-finished and backdrop was only half-painted (This was a week INTO the run!)

The Snow children all dropped character, stared out at the audience and waved, laughed, got left behind when the line moved, etc.

The dancing was the worst I've ever seen - excrusiatingly bad from the opening pantomime on. Horrific.

The accompaniment was only a piano!

I'm just short  :D

DITTO!  Gotta love short people!

"They got tiny little hands
Little eyes ..
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet ...

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little vocies
Goin' peep, peep, peep
And dirty little minds ..."

One of my favorite Randy Newman songs -- makes me laugh when I sing along to it ...

Worst community theater production with me as part of the crew:

DEATHTRAP (I ran sound).

The audience roared with laughter at the BIG fright moment and subsequent heart attack. Neither of the two male leads could act, and one was openly homophobic which seriously undermined the relationship of the two men. All staging around their surprise was blocked with distance between them.

The actress playing the psychic was lovely German lady with an accent so thick you couldn't understand a word she said.

Worst production with me as a part of the cast:

ARSENIC AND OLD LACE (I played Sgt. O'Hara).

Leading man couldn't remember any lines. The two elderly ladies couldn't remember lines or blocking. The actors playing the rogues mugged and stretched their business to try to steal the show which wasn't hard to do with such an inept lead.

I had an awful nightmare last night and woke up at 5:30 unable to fall back asleep. I read for awhile, and then went in and watched two more episodes of HEROES. One of them was the famous "Save the Cheerleader - Save the World" homecoming episode which was simply superb with tension and mood.

Boy, that DR Joy really is versatile!

Nice to see you online, DR Danise, and thanks for letting us know that you are OK.  Getting that machine really should do wonders for you.

new additional lyrics to Short People

"Short people got
Big problems with
No place to put
Their dangling little toes
Their tiny hunchy bodies
Crouching down in those
Little computer chairs
That are parked so low
You can barely hear
Their squeaky little voices going
Eek, Eek, Eek
As you trip all over
Their nasty little feet."

Today I will venture into the land of DELIVERENCE when I drive 20 miles east to the Aumsville Corn Festival  :o

My sister and her best friend (and our former sister-in-law) Debbie will have a craft/art booth at the festival and my mom wants to join them for the day, so being the dutiful son I will drive her there. Perhaps I will eat some corn on the cob and watch a tractor pull.

Aumsville is just a scary little town....sort of reminds me of that village in 2000 MANIACS.

Of course it could be worse...I could be going to Amity.
