Well, you've read the notes, the notes were simply agog, and now it is time for you to post until the simply agog cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  Fredric Brown (who's birthday was just yesterday...even though he died in 1973) wrote some wonderful fiction and science fiction, and although I can't specifically remember any, I would assume that he had written some speculative fiction, as well. :)

I also love the recording (music written by Alan Menken, lyrics by David Spencer) to Weird Romance:  Two One-Act Musicals of Speculative Fiction. :)

Oh!  I almost forgot!  Last night, we got music for Nite of the Living Dead! The Musical!  Josh, the composer/ lyricist/ bookwriter/ music director FINALLY e-mailed pdf files of music for some of the songs!!  And what is written is a little different than what we've actually been singing. ::) NOW we'll finally be able to learn the songs correctly and consistently. ;D

Good morning, all! I went to bed, opened a new book DESIGN FLAWS OF THE HUMAN CONDITION and laughed through the first five chapters.  It's very funny, very New Yawk, and I think I will like this book quite a lot.  Beginning it and sending off to Portland the finished David Burnham chart seem to be the only two things I feel went well yesterday.

I did indeed have weird dreams. Julie Andrews was in one of them nd I was high in a balcony watching her sing at some benefit, then I dreamed that I was working as a bagger in a supermarket and talking to Robert Kimball about a benefit to do the show and record JUBILEE when the Fat Conductor of Limited Talent and Limitless Ego showed up wearing a beard and raving about doing something with, probably butchering, Richard Rodgers' music.

Today: barber at 9:30, then Toyland, the NYPL, and perhaps I'll start the chart for Ashley Brown today.

Speculative fiction? TIME AND AGAIN by Jack Finney.

Good morning.  To kick off with the foot report:  The meds seem to be doing their work, and I'm wandering about, still carefully, but not particularly painfully - not even a temptation to reach for the cane, so that's good.

I took the TOD to mean fiction - in whatever genre - that asks the question "What If?" and then attempts to answer it.

DR FJL - if you see Milla in the hospital or speak with her, will you please tell her that I'm thinking of her and wishing her a speedy recovery?  She doesn't know me, but she did give me a big hug on the steps of St. Clement's!

Tuesday morning greetings!  Here I am at work with my angel costume on - almost everyone in the department dressed up, except for the ones I could have predicted would not.

TOD - in the post-apocalyptic vein:

Malevil, by Robert Merle
A Gift Upon the Shore, by M. K. Wren

Science fiction:  The Sparrow, by Mary Doria Russell

I just love this song, and one of these days, I'm going to see the movie where she sang it.

TOD: I like short stories, so:

Lewis Padgett (a.k.a. Kuttner and Moore)'s  Gallagher stories
Frederic Brown: The Star Mouse
E.M. Forster: The Celestial Omnibus
Most Harlan Ellison

And if Lewis Carroll counts, well...Through The Looking Glass would be my #1 fave.

Good morning!

Chilly morning, and warming up only to 66 today. I haven't turned my heat on yet as the days warm up just enough to make the house tolerable if I'm dressed in sweats. Anyway, looks like fall is here to stay for awhile, and I love it.

There was a book I read hurriedly when I was a teenager called IF THE SOUTH HAD WON THE CIVIL WAR. I remember being rather appalled by it then, but it's been so long, my memories are rather vague.

Thank you, DR td, for your astute comments on THE SHINING. I'm looking forward to revisiting it this afternoon after many years away from it.

I had not read King's book when I saw the movie so I didn't share the outrage of others who felt the master's work had been violated. For me, the movie worked its spell pretty thoroughly, and even when parts of it baffled me, I still had a visceral response to the horrors both real and imagined in it.
