It's so good to see DR Vixmom posting!  I understand your job situation perfectly.  I'm on pins and needles until after the vote in January about the property taxes/homestead exemption is either voted in or not.

I'm not comfortable with taking all this extra time off from work either.  It doesn't look good when they are doing the cuts.

BK, you might want to point out to Hisaka that posting on HHW would be an excellent way for her to practice her English skills (not that I found any fault with them to begin with).

Ah, yes. The Wizard of Oz, though it was a long time before I saw it without commercials. We watched it on television every year.

So did we.  I always lost it when Dorothy said goodbye to the Scarecrow.  It was my annual cry.

I remember my surprise when we got our first color TV and Dorothy opened to door to OZ.  I never knew (until then) that OZ was in color while our world was in B & W.  That was rather neat.

And still is, in my humble opinion.   :)

TOD:  As much as I wanted to be among the ones who professed to seeing "The Sound of Music" hundreds of times, I believe I only managed abuot six viewings of the film in its initial theatrical run.

That said, I worked as an usher during summer/fall/early winter of 1965 and the one film I saw the most while working was "The Yellow Rolls-Royce", which I viewed straight through about 13 times.

Home video is something else again.  I've held annual marathons over the years during which I watched all the "Rocky" films, all the "Die Hard" films, all the "Lethal Weapons" films, all the Astaire-Rogers films, all the "Star Wars" films, etc., etc., etc.  I couldn't even begin to speculate how many times I may have seen any of those films.

Over the last decade, the films I've watched more than a few times include "Meet Joe Black", "Field of Dreams" and the "LOTR" trilogy.

Folks sometimes take a break...they go for coffee, or for "comfort station" breaks...etc., etc.  They stay logged on and it "seems" like they are just sitting there waiting for someone else to say something.

While that may be true, occasionally, when one or two "members" are just waiting to pounce on something BK or DakotaCelt might post, most are just preoccupied with something else.

vixmom needs to find another job that will allow her to post, occasionally, during the daylight hours.

All work and no stress-reducing relaxation makes vixmom a tense chick.

I agree.  We had a lot of people who applied for our temp positions that were from the same field.

It's hitting every where.

My grandfather bought a color TV console in the early 1960s.

We used to go to his house on Sundays for dinner, and stay through "Bonanza."

It just occurred to me, reading Danise's post, that never once was it suggested that I might come over and watch "The Wizard of Oz" in color during its annual TV showing.  I know he was aware I would be watching it on our b/w TV.

I didn't see it in color until 1965 when my dad finally broke down and bought a color set.

Funny the things that suddenly occur to you....

What vixmom (and maybe you, Danise) needs to find is a government job....county, state or federal.

Once you get tenured, you have to do something seriously wrong to be let go/fired.

Of course, it helps if you like your job and co-workers.  One should always apply oneself to be the best possible employee in one's position that one can be.

I don't know if it's true where the rest of you reside, but here in the Bay Area of central California there is a waiting list for folks who want to be garbage collectors.

They have a strong union, superb benefits and excellent pay...better than the "median" income for the area, for sure.  It's tough to get hired, though.

Today, thank myself for prescience in scheduling my days off, is my final work day of the week!

I need a three-day weekend after working four days following a five-day weekend.

These long weekends take a lot out of a person.

re: DANCING WITH THE STARS.

DR Cillaliz, yeah i sort of heard about the news about helio and his fiancee.

It is so odd. Because i went to see my sister last night. and i was telling her how i had seen helio talk about his fiancee (on THE VIEW). They had asked him about it and he had gone on to say how supportive she was. And julianne had commented how she would teach the woman to dance for their wedding.

And my sis was like, "um they broke up" (helio and fiancee). It seemed so odd to me since he had gone on and on. But she (my sis) said that he had told whoever was interviewing him (didn't hear where my sis heard this) that he just didn't want to make a big thing about it at THE VIEW. So he just played along.

OMG how awkward! (and i totally don't get why someone just didn't tell them not to ask him this question!).
