From the last Warner chat, a big box set of the three SHOW BOAT films will be arriving on DVD in 2008. They have allegedly been doing restorations on all three versions, so they should all look the best they've ever looked.

I have two laserdisc copies of the 1936 SHOWBOAT. Miles Kreuger does the commentary on the Criterion version, and then there's the laserdisc box set of the three SHOW BOATs that bk mentioned in the notes. This is the box that features a stereo surround track for the 1951 version which I certainly hope Warners offers as an option on the upcoming box set version. The current DVD of the 1951 version only offers mono.

This morning I watched two more episodes of DIRT. The Jack Dawson (he-man action star found out to be gay) was resolved, and Don Konkey got a real girl friend, played by the actress who is the British junior attorney on BOSTON LEGAL.

singdaw - That NYMF bulletin list doesn't include any of the 2007 NYMF shows.

And the list looks very very long in part because where a show had or has a touring produciton, they (wisely from a public relations standpoint) have separately listed every single stop on the tour!  Nothing wrong with that, though.

They even list where a show has been presented in another festival (even a fringe festival), a workshop, even part of a classroom-type workshop - so I'm sure they'll be very liberal in listing any presentations of any kind for the 2007 shows in their coming releases.

I spent yesterday Lost (so to speak).  I'm number 1 with a bullet (or something like that) at DVDTalk right now with my review.  ;)

Good morning, everyone!

I'm running late today, much like yesterday. Each year, once the holiday stuff is under control, I like to have a little post-rush collapse. My body tells me when it's time to do this; I don't have much choice!

As for the Friday Media Check...

DVD: "Hairspray"

CD: "Here And Now", Lauren Kennedy
"A Deeper Shade of Red", Andrea Burns
"Airs d'opéras français", Natalia Dessay
"Arie di bravura", Diana Damrau -  I'm catchin up on my coloraturas. ;)

And finally -
Prokofiev, Piano Concerto No. 2; Ravel, Piano Concerto in G Major - Yundi Li, pianist; Berliner Philharmoniker, Seiji Ozawa
I noticed this on various "Best Of" lists as well as the recent Grammy nominations, and was sort of surprised I had missed it at the stores.  I have a plethora of recordings of the Ravel, and the Prokofiev Second is a truly monumental(!) work.  Yundi Li's playing is nothing short of awesome.  The Prokofiev is a true "knuckle buster", and he handles all the thorny passages with ease, and, more importantly, with true musicality.  I even listened to the Prokofiev with score in hand just to "see" all the notes he was playing.  Bravo!  *The Prokofiev was also recorded Live, and I really didn't detect the audience until they burst into applause at the end.  Great sound.

DR Jose - this morning I had a business reason (honest!) to do some online ordering at Cheryl & Co., so I also sent some cookies to my mom and to the family of our new great-nephew.  That allowed me to order the Thank You box, which means that I'll have lots of individually-wrapped cookies for stocking stuffers.

Oh, my mother used to make divinity.  We took turns helping her stir.

Well, I think I'm gonna go ahead and make the chili I was going to make last night.  With the wet(!!!) weather we're expecting later this weekend, it will be nice to have a pot of chili on standby.

Laters...

"I like to have a little post-rush collapse"... "like"?!?!?!

Sorry. I should have been clearer. About this time of year I feel the need to take anywhere from a few days to a week off, just to be laid back, nothing scheduled, just putter about, go to a movie, just RELAX. Sometimes I actually prefer this to a real vacation (the sort where you go somewhere). Until the holiday stuff is under control I don't feel I can really relax.

This may be a female thing. I've mentioned it to several women and most women are able to relate to it. One of the men I mentioned it to couldn't relate at all; the other doesn't do much EXCEPT relax.  ;)

So I haven't felt like doing much the last couple o' days!
