Yesterday we went to my aunt's house for Christmas Eve dinner.

I don't celebrate Christmas per se. But my uncle does, as does my sister's husband. So we always have a big party on the 24th.

I must say I am really looking forward to Boxing Day tomorrow. Thankfully i will be nowhere near the electronics stores (that is a pure mob scene).

The one bad thing is that even though it is the biggest shopping day of the year in Canada, stores only open at 1pm. I hate this.

Although we did find out that two stores will be opening at 10am. So at least we can go there before the mall opens.

Btw, even though the stores only open at 1pm the mall will be packed by noon. I"m not sure why but i love this. I think it's hilarious that everyone just walks around ready for the stores to open.

Actually some stores do open between noon and 1pm (even though they are not supposed to). That is fun too (seeing which ones are open early).

Back from Anglican Christmas Morning mass, Enchanted with my "girl" relatives, and supper at my mom's. At the movie, I sat between my sister and her daughter, my DN Laura who was with me on my first HHW visit in NYC (for Jewish Thighs on Broadway) and who lurks here occassionally. They both got all the Disney references and loved the movie. Laura brought me home and came in to see the BK birthday video. She thought it was very clever and said to tell you all HI.

For Christmas I received a Barnes & Noble gift card, an L. L. Bean gift card, several ornaments, the Hairspray DVD, and a Christmas in New York pop-up book, which is exquisite.

Watching Mod Squad episodes - I must say I find them very enjoyable. One episode was filmed on a construction site for a high rise then being built. I was determined to figure out where it was. Finally, they did a shot where I could see a Pep Boys, then they did another shot and I could clearly see the Cinerama Dome. I don't know why, but I surmised I was looking west and that it was the high rise on the southeast corner of Sunset and Vine. But the proximity to the Dome seemed off. Then they did a shot from the top girders and I could see Cahuenga and Cole. So, I drove down there and realized immediately that in order for their to be a nearby Pep Boys it could not have been at Vine and that the shot had to be looking east rather than west. In fact, it was on Cole, a high rise that was obviously finished in 1968, one block from what is now Amoeba. And, right across the street from the high rise was a green building that is now SIR Studios and which was formerly Pep Boys. In fact, when we rehearsed Joan Ryan's act there, I remember remarking you could still see the Pep Boys sign.

Good Evening!

Stage one of Christmas dinner is now complete. -We're still waiting for my brother, Don, to arrive with his daughter - and new puppy. Needless to say, he got a late start heading down from Fairfax.

In the meantime, we enjoyed a meal of grilled chicken breasts, grilled New York Strips*, roast turkey, lechon** (roast pig), pancit (Filipino spaghetti

), fried rice, steamed white rice, and green beans. We're hold off on dessert until later.

*My Dad is very fond of marinating steaks. -Even those cuts of steak that just need to be seasoned with salt and pepper before being put on the grill. Alas, I think the vinegar-based marinade he used sort of toughened the meat, but they tasted fine.

**The lechon, roast pig, was actually cooked by some friends of my brother. In Puerto Rico! His friend's mother roasted, then froze it, then shipped it overnight packed in dry ice to the States. I'm not sure just how legal that all is, but it was pretty tasty.

Ah, but DR Jennifer, did you notice that with each progressive slaying, the make-up on Johnny Depp's Sweeney gets closer to a natural flesh-tone?

I think that it's also possible to be a fan of Tim Burton's film-making style and still be a fan of Sondheim, who did originally set out to create "a musical thriller" in the Grand Guignol style.

...Of course, this means I'll find my iPod nano next week when I get back to NYC. In fact, I think I remember where I put it: in my light jacket - which I haven't worn since Thanksgiving since the temps hard turned cooler. We shall see.

I've had an insanely busy last few weeks and I still have another week of two a day Cinderellas to get through. Last night I had two services to play (including an 11 p.m.), where, thankfully, I played in the right key

. Then today we of course were woken at the veritable crack by the kids. I've had a splitting headache all day as a result. I just got back from playing an exquisite private party at a very plush residence in a tony neighborhood I had never been to before. You would not believe the size of some of the houses--it reminded me of the "polygamy" houses that dot the hills outside of SLC--you know, 10,000+ SF numbers. This place had a very serviceable Yamaha grand and they were very attentive, which was nice, plus the hostess paid me more than agreed upon and asked me to reserve next Christmas for them, so I guess I did alright.

Back from Christmas day at my sisters (part 2). We ate ham and cheesy potatoes, and red cabbage with apple slices, and honey butter on rolls. It was all yummy.

Then we hied ourselves to the TV set and watched ELF...I had never seen ELF before, but it is now among my favorite films! I never laughed so hard!

Merry Christmas, my very dear HHW friends!

I have just returned from having Christmas Dinner with Thelma and her family. A merrier time could not have been had!

There was food! Oh yes, there was LOTS of food—Honey Baked ham, sweet potato casserole, broccoli casserole and cookies/cakes/pies! Oh my!

There also was much talking and laughing and a good time was had by all. I was quite sorry to have to leave but I have to go to work on the morrow so I had to take my leave.

Which also means I must also make just this quick appearance and leave HHW as well.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day.
