The birthday party for Steve's mother, Dora, was a complete success. It was her first time in Steve's new condo - well, it was new two years ago. She has some mobility issues right now, so it took a while for her to get up to his place on the fourth floor from the lobby of the building. She had wanted to walk from the entrance to the central elevator, but already needed to sit down after coming through the front doors. So, they went ahead and got her wheelchair for her, and that made things a whole lot easier. -And she was also able to tour the place too from the comfort of her wheels.
She loved Steve's new place, and she really loved Steve's grand piano. She played for about an hour or so, just reading through various books that Steve had around. I have to say, she's quite the good sight-reader.
Eventually, the rest of the family arrived: Steve's two sisters, a husband, some grandchildren and a girlfriend. Her grandson had brought some roses for her, and she was visibly moved by the gesture. Very sweet.
As for the tacos... There were hardly any leftovers.

I had a blast cooking again, and it was nice to know that my catering skills weren't that rusty. Everything was ready at the right time, and I set up a good assembly line for the tacos.
For dessert, Steve had bought a Coconut Cake from the Vietnamese bakery in town. It was not your typical Coconut Cake, more like a Coconut Cream Cake. It seemed to be equal parts cake and cream/frosting, and most of the coconut flavor was in the cream/frosting. Quite good, and deceivingly light. We had also picked up a Pumpkin Pie earlier at the store, as well as some Breyer's Vanilla.

It really was a wonderful party, and I'm glad I was able to help Steve out today. And, tomorrow, he's buying me dinner.
