THE OPENING SALVO
« on: January 09, 2008, 12:20:58 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes had brio and perhaps even con brio, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're opening a salvo right now and can't be bothered.

Report from Wonderland:

In The New Hampshire Primary Election:

Clinton won more votes than Obama; but they were close and each was awared 9 delgates to the convention.

The 5 Superdelgates were split - 2 for Clinton, 3 for Obama.

Result - Obama actually won the New Hampshire Primary!

Curiouser and curiouser....

Pehaps someone will fire an opening salvo.  Yes, fire that opening salvo's butt cheeks right off the premises.

Bset retire early - I will probably be awakened early by billowing smoke and wailing fire alarms. Woody has decided we shall no longer suffer the indignity of using purchased beef stock, so he shall attempt to make his own (which requires many hours of super-high temperature oven roasting of cow skeleton).

Pray for Elsie's baby

Be fore-warned: salvos are unionized and are usually well represented by expensive lawyers!

Fire a salvo at your own risk.

Hey, Deb, you're a good quarter resource. I don't know if you saw an earlier post about it. Have you come across any Utah quarters? I haven't seen ANY yet. I usually have one by now but I've been to three banks and no one seems to have any!

We went computer browsing last night. I will buy the system from Dell on-line using my company discount but there is a Dell gift store in Manhattan right now. They opened in December and they are here until January 15th. Anthony wanted to see what a possible system might look like so we toddled over and browsed. It was fun. Though I bought my last computer 3 and a half years ago things change so quickly that it's almost a whole new world (Aladdin).

I must be off to do the things I need to do.

Good morning, all! I've been over to the CastrecL responding to one of the posters who's become the first open victim of Mr Farrow's round of smug superiority and hostility. It's nice to see Toronto's biggest ass revealing his talents as a pompous windbag on another site besides cast.rec.arts.

Today? The NYPL and a bit of writing here on "Lady of the Slipper."  It's been erroneously reported that Peggy Wood of "Sound of Music" and Noel Coward's "Bittersweet" was the understudy for Elsie Janis since Wood was in the cast.  Actually, the beautiful Helen Falconer was the standby and in 1914 she finished the last month of the tour when Janis headed to London for an engagement.

In re: to what FJL said about the girl singing the song sad.

That was the whole point!  They were showing scenes from the other story during that song.  Those events were very upsetting. So it made perfect sense (to me) for them to present the song this way.

And in terms of the teacher telling her to sing it differently.  I think it was simply supposed to be obvious that this girl was a tremendous talent. I think it was pretty clear that the girl could easily have made the song a bit more upbeat if required.
