Good morning, all! Yesterday's laundry is now in the washers, and I gotta say, sleeping on the MBarnum memorial air mattress is no fun for an old coot who needs a derrick to lift himself off the floor,  This bedbug crap is getting old fast.

Today, a trek to Toyland to deliver a few items and books, then NYPL.  After that, back here to deal with more cleaning and to confront the instructions from the exterminators.  My neighbor thinks there's a lawsuit with the apartment management for not alerting the other tenants to the situation when it began.

TOD:
   Eric Coates: "London" Suite
   Roger Quilter: Children's Overture
   Leroy Anderson: almost everything
Robert Russell Bennett: Old American Dances, all of his orchestral medleys from shows
Vaughn Williams: English Folk song Suite

We saw The 39 Steps last night. It was great fun. It's funny and sharp and you don't need to be a Hitchcock afficianado to enjoy the show. There are references throughout to many of the films (some of them groan-inducing) but it doesn't really matter if you miss those references.

One actor plays the Robert Donat role and 3 other actors play everyone else. It's quite a treat to see the quick changes and vocal work, etc. It's a wonderful example of how to do this kind of stripped down theatre. It's similar to something like Reduced Shakespeare. In this one in 90 minutes you get a show and a short lesson in Hitchcock films. I recommend the show. We left with smiles on our faces and we talked about Hitchcock on the subway ride home.

The show is in the renovated newly large Selwyn Theatre (also known as the American Airlines Theatre) but even up in the last row of the balcony we had no trouble seeing or hearing.

For a long time I believed the story that he was related to John Wayne....he has the forehead to be sure!

Great to hear that he's a nice guy!

Thanks to all for pointy-hatted wishes.  Joy told me to do whatever I feel like doing today, so I'm off to rob a bank

Hello, everyone!

TOD:

I love classical music. As for "light" classical, how about BENJAMIN BRITTEN'S Young People's Guide to the Orchestra?

Good morning!

We got about a half inch of snow during the early morning hours, but it had switched over to rain by the time I got up. I suspect there won't be much left of it by the end of the day, especially if we get more rain this afternoon which they're predicting.

I certainly agree about Leroy Anderson's pieces which I've been in love with when I was first introduced to them through my piano teacher who gave me "The Waltzing Cat" to play at one of my recitals. Later, in junior high school (and later high school), we began to play them in concert band, and I've never heard a single one of his pieces that I didn't instantly love.

David Raksin composed "Concerto for Toys" (or a similar title; I'd have to check my recording) for the film GROUNDS FOR MARRIAGE that I have always adored.

TV Reminder:

The penultimate new episode of UGLY BETTY airs tonight.

I will also watch SUPERNATURAL (a rerun from this season, but it'll be new to me).

I doubt I'll get all eight remaining HAWAII FIVE-O episodes watched today, especially if I go out to lunch later. That's still undecided at the moment. However, I hope to be done with it my mid-morning tomorrow. Then, if THIS SPORTING LIFE comes today or tomorrow in the mail, I'll be able to start on that 2-disc set tomorrow afternoon.

No discussions about PROJECT RUNWAY yet which surprises me. Did everyone else DVR (or VCR) it as I did and haven't gotten to it yet? Usually by this time two or three people have weighed in on the results.

Good question. There was no overt reference to Mr. Haines, only a line saying "I know we're just Strangers on a Train"
