It should be noted that the theme song for The Golden Girls was not written for the show.

"Thank You for Being a Friend" was a semi-hit single for writer/singer Andrew Gold, who included it on his third album, "All This and Heaven Too," released in 1978.  The television series didn't reach the airwaves until 1985.

Hello, everyone.

Since it's a holiday weekend for many, let me wish all of you who are observing religious traditions, a fine whatever. For those of us who are not, such as myself, I wish you all a relaxed and pleasant weekend.

I have a pile of old movies, plus my Netflix DVDs, to look forward to. And that's ALL I wish to do this weekend!

I'll betcha y'all already know Andrew is the son of Ernest (Exodus) Gold and Marni Nixon.

I used to tip the baggers for helping take the groceries to my car.  Most markets had a no tipping rule & I eventually got out of the habit of offering money that wasn't accepted.

And "Killing Me Softly" was a song off a mostly forgotten (low-selling) album that Clint Eastwood had and used forn "Play Misty For Me", thus making it "famous" as "Golden Girls" did its borrowed song.

And ditto "As Time Goes By"...it became "known" and "associated" only with "Casablanca."

So, in effect, it doesn't matter what the songs were written for...it's only important that they became famous in association with TV shows and movies, for which they are remembered.

And, thus, they are themes from those shows/movies.
