Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And, yes, I allowed myself to sleep in just a tad bit longer today that usual.  I fell asleep in front of the TV last night while watching the "Make Me A Supermodel" reunion show - while I was watching it with my roommate.  I suddenly heard, "Do you want me to keep this on the VCR since you had slept through most of it?"  -Oh....  He said it was kind of boring anyway, so we went ahead and deleted it.  And then I headed to bed.  Whew!

One more day of EPAs...  -Well, at least for this week.

Re SUPERMODEL -  MILD SPOILER

I hadn't noticed that Tyson was favoring the male supermodel contestants in his mentoring, but I sense an issue a-brewing about fairness and favoritism.  If anyone cares, that is.  :)

Good morning!

Another beautiful day here (maybe showers late in the day), but right now it's gorgeous and getting up into the upper 70s today. The weekend, however, will be cooler.

GYPSY is a masterpiece of a show, no question about it, but three major Broadway revivals in 15 years! Too much. (And a made-for-TV movie also during that time.)

An oob is a doofus beekeeper [a "boob"] who has lost a bee [a "b"].

Hence, he is also by definition out of breath.   :)

TV Reminder:

CANTERBURY'S LAW at 9 p.m.

If you are still watching the show, this may be its last airing. Shows have a notorious habit of dying on the Fox network Friday night schedule, so be aware this may be its last show unless it draws some decent ratings. JEZEBEL JAMES is the latest casualty of Fox's Friday wasteland.

I just played Mandel's "Emily" at a gig on Monday.

We tried Coldstone Creamery once and vowed never to return--just too froo-froo for us ice cream purists.  When I want an ice cream cone, I just want ice cream and a cone.  And perhaps a napkin.  It was also absurdly expensive, but I had a giftcard so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.

TOD:  listening to the brilliant Brasilian chanteuse/songwriter/guitarist Joyce.  BK, you would love her.

DVDs:  I've been digging down through my stack of screeners.  Made it through Season One of Father Knows Best, which I must say holds up extremely well and has a bunch of great extras.  Also watched one of the Bette Davis movies, one which I had never before seen, The Old Maid, which despite its soap-opera-esque trappings, was quite good, IMHO.  Then yesterday I bit the bullet and watched the new 2 DVD Mariah Carey concert DVD, which actually had some very nice moments once she got past her gansta-rap segment.  But, wow, was the audience (Anaheim Arena) LOUD--you could NOT hear Mariah some of the time, so you know how loud they must have been in person.  Now I am watching a quite excellent UK miniseries on Admiral Nelson.  The first episode told the Hamilton Affair story from the viewpoint of Nelson's wife.  Anna Massey was really good in this one.

Yesterday, I also managed to start the sequenced accompaniment arrangement of Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show for my upcoming Pacific Pops Choir session.  It's a little more convoluted than most, what with its interspersed 2/4 measures in an otherwise 4/4 tune.

Today I am creating MIDI files of upcoming church anthems which my choir uses to rehearse to through the second week of June.  At least with these files, I don't need to be too anal about what the notation looks like, since they're just meant to be listened to.

Talk about serendipity!  Most people do not know that the screenplay for Glitter was actually based on the story of Admiral Nelson's wife.   ;)

Hmmm....

So Ben Brantley loves his Patti Lu in Gypsy...   rave

It depends on how you excerpt:

Ben Brantley bemoans of Gypsy:

"...a diffuse, narcissistic performance..."

"The show’s flat, scrappy look..."

"..we are always aware of the shabbiness of the cut-rate vaudeville circuit..."

"..a source of …pity and terror"

"Ms. LuPone ..has now settled on a single ordinary-looking package"

"...seedy trio of strippers..."

"I didn’t really think about the songs..."

You take the kids for the show - if you want a cone, go to Baskin-Robbins.

Friday morning greetings!  Yesterday was a long conference day:

Vendor breakfast at the Hyatt
Vendor exhibits
Program on advocacy for libraries
Vendor exhibits (finished!)
Program on program evaluation
Program on visual appeal in library spaces
Audio Publishers Association dinner - with a very generous SWAG bag at the end - at least 8 audiobooks or other CD products inside!

Then I crashed!

One of the speakers at the dinner last night was Scott Brick, an actor from LA who makes his living as an audiobook narrator.  He admitted to being a book addict, which makes all librarians

wait for it
