I just played Mandel's "Emily" at a gig on Monday.
We tried Coldstone Creamery once and vowed never to return--just too froo-froo for us ice cream purists. When I want an ice cream cone, I just want ice cream and a cone. And perhaps a napkin. It was also absurdly expensive, but I had a giftcard so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
TOD: listening to the brilliant Brasilian chanteuse/songwriter/guitarist Joyce. BK, you would love her.
DVDs: I've been digging down through my stack of screeners. Made it through Season One of Father Knows Best, which I must say holds up extremely well and has a bunch of great extras. Also watched one of the Bette Davis movies, one which I had never before seen, The Old Maid, which despite its soap-opera-esque trappings, was quite good, IMHO. Then yesterday I bit the bullet and watched the new 2 DVD Mariah Carey concert DVD, which actually had some very nice moments once she got past her gansta-rap segment. But, wow, was the audience (Anaheim Arena) LOUD--you could NOT hear Mariah some of the time, so you know how loud they must have been in person. Now I am watching a quite excellent UK miniseries on Admiral Nelson. The first episode told the Hamilton Affair story from the viewpoint of Nelson's wife. Anna Massey was really good in this one.
