TOD Three:

The first time der Brucer and I hit NYC together, we had tix to see Forum in revival (by that time with David Alan Grier).  Before, der B insisted that we head to the village for dinner, and by chance we were able to get a table at Po, as walk-ins.  It's a tiny place, and usually crammed with reserved tables, so it was a real chance that we were able to get in.

The meal was marvelous.  Batali was experimenting with grains that night, not what one usually thinks of for an Italian restaurant.  But one dish involved bulgar wheat, and there was a totally different grain involved with the main course.  And it was amazing food.

Batali shortly after that moved on to Babbo, and then multiplied like a rabbit to the point that he isn't even in NYC all the time any more.  And the new owners of Po have added a second outpost, in Brooklyn.  And yes, if the opportunity came up, I'd gladly return.

RE: restaurants.

When my sister and i were little i remember going to my mom's favorite restaurant. I think it was called something like Kontiki. It is not there anymore. But i remember the place being beautifully decorated. And we would eat the poo poo platter!

Ron P - I didn't realize that was why Peter Barton was relatively "covered up" on that show.  I guess I assumed that he didn't have a physique appropriate for that attire from a TV perspective.  Do you know whether he healed over the years?

Well, he starts tonight, and, from what I understand, it should be quite an exciting - maybe even unpredictable - evening in theatre.  It will be interesting to see how some of the die-hard ACL fans - myself included -  react to his performance.  I think I'm seeing it on Thursday night, so, I should be able to gauge it for myself.

*And, yes, I know that last sentence is rife with/for euphemism.  Just rife!

And I'm sure there are several on the site who will want all the down and dirty details about it.

Had a fabulous meal at Bouley, but the portions were so tiny.

We called it nouvelle cuisine in that you looked at it and said "Nu, vell?"

All options are on the table, so to speak.

Oh, dear, sprungdrawer...are you reliving a moment from last night?

No, I don't know.  I do know that he "had" the physique for shirtless scenes prior to the accident.

He asked me, "Do you want a locker, or a room"?, and that's the last thing I remember...

TOD:  While it was certainly not "elegant" or "fine dining," the earliest eating out experience that I can remember is Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour in Palos Verdes [CA].  I was perhaps 5 or 6, and remember being simply overwhelmed by all the ice cream choices.

Did you ever have your birthday party there and get to order a "Zoo"?

I don't think so, but I remember being pie-eyed reading all the descriptions - especially of those "larger quantity" concoctions!   :)

It's actually called a pu pu platter, not poo poo.  It's a Hawaiian word, meaning appetizer, that has been adopted by the Cantonese to mean "treasure."

I, too, enjoy a good pu pu platter.  But poo poo is too too eeww eeww.
