I do hope I didn't gain back any weight from the pizza and salad last night - but I really needed to eat that sort of meal and I'm glad I did.

THE GREAT RACE is my all-time favorite comedy, but it's long and not for all. My brother couldn't stand it.

Well...

Just remember that anything you eat is going to add weight to your body - at least "immediately" - since you're essentially adding the "weight" of the food to your own weight when you ingest it.  Of course, once your digestive system does it's duty - and doody - well... ;)

-Which is why "they" always suggest weighing yourself once a week - or once every two weeks (or even monthly) - since it will always a take a few days for things to even out in your body.

*And I know that you're on this whole "jogging jag" right now, but you should really take one day off from jogging sometime soon.  Then do a nice long run the following day - then take another day off.  Your leg muscles will appreciate the rest and recovery time.

I don't really read the imdb, but whenever I see something that I think is really bad, I do find it both interesting and amusing to see that there are always people who find every movie some kind of hidden gem or masterpiece - I don't think it's ever failed, except in one or two instances.

Be grateful for it.  All movies deserve champions.  You've certainly gotten your share of compliments for "The First Nudie Musical", but you've undoubtedly read negative comments, as well.  We all see things differently and through different eyes.

How we react to such things depends upon our emotional well-being, our mood, the frame of mind we are in, etc., etc.  I've seen some films others recommended to me, and I've scratched my head wondering why.  Later, I'll see one of those films again and suddenly see extraordinary things in it that had eluded me.

No one can avoid such factors when watching films or plays, etc.

So, it looks like it will indeed be SALO this afternoon and evening. It's a two-disc set, so I'll watch the almost two hour film this afternoon and then do the bonus features tonight.

I predict:  You will consider this the two most egregiously wasted hours of your life.  Since you've already seen "The Sweet Movie", it may not seem as sordid and base as I found it to be, but I doubt you'll feel able to make it through the evening without a shower.

The song of the day, as it has been for me for the past few days, is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DBYnoYutfc

"Believe" sung by Cher - I really can't believe it's ten years since that song came out; these past ten years have really moved fast since I remember the first time I heard that song as if it were very recent.

I must have been hungry for a Veags buffet while watching Cher, or maybe it was her enunciation these days - I kept hearing her sing "I really don't think your stroganoff" (instead of "strong enough")

TOD:

Madelyn Kahn ("Eunice") being dragged from the ballroom, heels leaving scuff marks on the floor, in "What's Up, Doc?"

The sight gag of the VW running off the pier and into San Francisco Bay...and floating, in "What's Up, Doc?"

Woody Allen's "Miles Monroe" disguised as a robot in the house of Diane Keaton ("Luna Scholosser") and getting stoned out of his mind passing the silver ball thingy around to her guests, in "Sleeper".

Woody Allen's "Boris" and Diane Keaton's "Sonja"  alternating cracking each other over the head with a wine bottle -- something each was hoping to do to "Don Francisco" who always managed to turn and look at the person with the bottle in his/her hand.  As Sonja slid down the wall, a strand of her hair caught on something, adding to the amusement, in "Love and Death".

Dianne Weist's "Helen Sinclair":  "Don't speak!  Don't speak!" moments, from "Bullets over Broadway"

Most depressing discovery of the Vegas trip:  The magic of the Cirque du Soleil spectaculars seems to elude me now, with spectacles like "Love" and "Ka" seeming like chores to sit through, taking in the large large spectacle and amazed intellectually at what man's ingenuity (and money) can accomplish, and glad to see the shows to know what's going on, but not really enjoying them as entertainment.  Give me the old non-spectacle Cirque du Soleil acts that were about what the people can do, or else the more human touring version where the "wow" was about the people and not the sets, I guess.

I've always assumed that balut was just a practical joke played on white tourists. Bacalao sounds interesting enough, and I've meant to try it some time. Never heard of dinaguan, though... hang on (quick check of the Wikipedia article).... er, um, yeah: think I'll pass on that too..

My favorite Cirque show was/is the the first, the original one.  -When it was under a small(er) tent, and they actually had people and real clowns being featured throughout the show.  I really do miss the clowns - the funny ones.  -Although, I did find the "firefly effect" in Varekai quite beautiful - simply(!) beautiful.

Laura - the performances were certainly Broadway-level. Crivello was amazing.  I loved the majestic surrounding-the-audience feeling theater, and the chandelier and pyrotechnics were well worth the time and price of admission, but being a fan of the show, it was strange to see what they changed plot-wise to make the chandelier more climactic!

SPOILER

Making Christine's actions at fault for the Phantom killing all those people with the chandelier was not to my liking, but I understand why in a 90-minute version they had to have the chandelier fall towards the end rather than at the "half-way" point.  i just wish they'd thought it through better and not had Christine's actions be the reason for the destruction.  And Masquerade lost some of its creepiness since the chandelier destruction moment had not happened and the extent of the potential damage the Phantom could do was not there in the story yet.

But boy, was it worth the time and money to see it in this spectacular production and setting and those Vegas-level effects.

I've given bacalao a try a few times in a couple of guises.  It's just too fishy to me - although, bacaloa fritters seem to be OK.  However, I remember trying a guisado that had bacalao in it... It was so weird - and unpalatable - eating something that tasted very fishy, but had the texture of rehydrated beef jerky.

As for dinuguan... I think I've had about a 1/2 teaspoon of it during my lifetime.  The smell - and look(!) - of it being prepared early on Saturday mornings when I was growing up was enough to turn me off of it.
