By the way,  I seem to remember that our Aussie boys are traveling in Europe at the moment.  Am I right?  Is that why I haven't seem them around here?

I know Tomovoz is travelling.  What other Aussie boys do we have?

I meant Tomovoz and his partner Collin, the collective Aussie boys.  Sorry for the confusion.

No worries.  I thought I must have overlooked someone who was Aussie and travelling at the same time.

... to eat outdoors under the canopy...

Left by forgetful thoughtful Jewish newlyweds?

Not that kind of canopy, DR der Brucer!  Here's the venue:

Polen Farm

We were on the patio.

I was very glad to check in here and find good health news from DR Elmore and from DR Jose, regarding his mom.

Another lie being told is that churches would be liable for lawsuits for hate crimes (!!!) and would start being taxed for not accepting gay marriages.  Well, GEE....they aren't taxed if they refuse to marry divorcees.  Catholics aren't taxed for excommunicating folks.  Mormons and Quakers and Amish aren't taxed for shunning.  Why would a church's beliefs about gay marriage be the backbreaker????

DR Ron, we saw something on the news about churches having to close if 8 passed. ???  Maybe this is what they were talking about. ::)

I'm going to help Keith pull the petunia's out of the boxes on our deck.  I always find this sad.  He used to plant pansies for the winter, no more :(

Dakota - we've asked to keep the political stuff to a minimum - you weren't around for the brouhaha, so all I ask is to hold off until after the election.

The pool man did arrive and was shocked the water was still green - he said he'd do whatever was necessary - he was going to completely clean out the entire filtering and pump system and then use chemicals and whatnot to get it looking the way it should.  I left to do banking and other errands (including getting Miss Susan Egan a music chart she needs), and now I am back.  I stopped at Gelson's to get some more water, and I was going to get something to eat, but I'm so tired of having stuff from there, that I passed and will get something a little later from somewhere more interesting.  I did buy a little thing of small coconut macaroons because I was taken aback and also afront at how calorie-friendly they are, and fat gram friendly, too.  Each macaroon is eighty calories and two grams of fat.  I'll have two for dessert later and that will be plenty and take care of my sweet tooth.

I missed the brouhaha too.  Thanks for the heads up, BK, I was tempted to start joining in the political mayhem.

The legality of marriage and this proposition have no impact whatever on churches.  Churches don't have to marry anyone they don't wish to marry or approve of.  It's all propaganda intended to mislead and misrepresent what is really nothing more than "equal" rights for all in regards to legal unions.  Since one can legally marry in a government office, sans religious officiation, the entire argument is moot.

Another beautiful day here, but outside of sitting on the proch while lunch cooked, I have spent the day inside happily watching things for fun and for work.

DR Ron, we saw something on the news about churches having to close if 8 passed. ???  Maybe this is what they were talking about. ::)

Unfortunately, a bunch of over-zealous activists ouside the US (Canada, UK, Sweden) have managed to get pastors charged with Hate Crimes based on sermon content. These cases are still winding their way throught the courts:

ASSOCIATED PRESS

Quote
SWEDISH PASTOR ACQUITTED AFTER ANTI-GAY SERMON
Friday , February 11, 2005

STOCKHOLM, Sweden —
A Swedish pastor convicted of hate crimes for a sermon denouncing homosexuals as a "cancer" was acquitted Friday by an appeals court that said he was protected by the country's free speech laws.

The Goeta Appeals Court said that while Aake Green's (search) views of gays can be "strongly questioned," it was not illegal to offer a personal interpretation of the Bible and urge others to follow it.

"The purpose of making agitation against gays punishable is not to prevent arguments or discussions about homosexuality, not in churches or in other parts of society," the court said.

Green, 63, was the first clergyman convicted under Sweden's tough hate crimes (search) laws, which make it a crime to make inflammatory remarks against racial, religious or national groups. The laws were ratified in 2003 to include homosexuals.

I began my afternoon watching last night's NCIS episode. Christian Campbell was a guest star on the show, and Ralph Waite played Mark Harmon's father. Good episode, but the murderer was easy to spot.

I started on THE MENTALIST, but then stopped after I watched the teaser and got to the opening credits. I needed to start work at that time. I'll finish this up this evening.

I spent the majority of the afternoon on the second disc of extras for the Criterion release of MISSING. There are quite a few lengthy interviews on the disc, both current and vintage about the film, the case of Charles Horman, etc. I enjoyed them all though there was a good deal of repetition of facts.

I did take the time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing and nothing in the previews. How stupid to set-up some good storylines for Luke and then take all these days away from the set-ups. Some characters like Dusty manage to show up every single day.

Ask BK

Shows like the CSI series use extensive clips of The Who's material as theme music (credited). In normal practice, would they have received a lump-sum payment for use, or do they have a residual piece of the action for each broadcast and DVD sale?
