Yes indeed, DR JANE....there were some lovely moments today.  Many smiles.  And John's father was doing very well.

That's nice.  I hope he continues to do well.

Thanks DR VIXMOM.

Wow a new dishwasher!

I remember our very first dishwasher, which must have been in 1957 or 1958.....it was a top loader.  When you raised the lid, one rack came up with it.  You took the other rack out to load it and then put it back in.  And when it was running it sounded like a jet airplane.  But it got the dishes clean!

My mom's first dishwasher was 1972 you had to roll it over to the sinkand attach it to the tap - and yes -it definitely was noisy!

Vixdad and I bought out last Whirlpool dishwasher about 16 or 17 years ago, used it everyday and it never was serviced once in all that time.  The timer mechanism developed  a fault and there were no replacement parts available

We bought another Whirlpool based upon our experience with the last one
I am hopeful that once we get this installed that we will have similar luck

I got all the packages addressed, so that's done.  True to my word, I treated myself to a nice early dinner at Stanley's - I had the Chinese Chicken Salad and one piece of bread with one pat of butter.  It was great.

I then came home and the master for the new Kritzerland release arrived - it sounds better than it has any right to - the source material, like Laurette, was not optimal, but the mastering guy did a splendid job, at least on the first score - haven't heard the second one.  I'm going to give the advance announcement tomorrow - like Laurette, I expect this to be a quick sellout, so get your orders in.  Once it's officially announced I expect it to be gone in three or four days if it follows the same pattern.  I've basically been told that my online dealers are going to order the same quantities.

DR JRand58, I'm glad the memorial service went well.

Yes, DR MBarnum has a new vacuum cleaner, so he should be really good with one when he comes to visit and needs to vacuum my place to pay for his fire escape room and board.

I had a friend over helping with the addressing and said friend gave me a back rub and boy did that help a lot.  But this damn flu is like The Neverending Story.  I have indeed been taking it easy every day since Sunday - not leaving the house much and resting, save for the morning jog.  Has anyone else gotten this and did it hang on like this?

No, it didn't hang on. I stayed home, slept and got better.

I had some lengthy telephone conversations today which cut somewhat into my evening viewing time. Still, always fun to catch up on news with friends.

I did have work to do, however, and watched the last of the Mizoguchi films in the box: STREET OF SHAME. By far the best of the four films in the box, there was enough plot in this movie for FOUR movies. Each of the four main prostitutes had an interesting backstory that could have been developed into a feature film.

But the slice of brothel life that we did get was certainly fascinating.

With the recent release of the brilliant L.A. CONFIDENTIAL on Blu-ray (which I haven't bought yet), I took the DVD release of the film off the shelf tonight and watched the first hour (had to spend the last hour of the evening writing up my thoughts on the two Mizoguchi films I watched today).

The transfer looks pretty good for one that old, but the Blu-ray will definitely be on my CHristmas list. I love the film and would love to see a sharper, stronger image.
